The Shibutanis Thread 6: Paradise Found

I just saw that clip and it's "Paradise" as after "Fix You" it goes back to "Paradise". The "Fix You" that was playing was the part of their Paradise FD after the stationary lift and before their twizzles.

oh, that makes sense, in 2016 they skated Fix you and their exhibition. Now I was sure they would be skating Paradise and their ¨that´s life¨ or a new exhibition. It is still possible that it is Paradise plus a new exhibition, in that other video where they were doing a lift, a different music was heard, although it could have been just random background music.

Anyway, I have seen some new exhibitions of other skaters and I have been somewhat disappointed :slinkaway, It's not entirely surprising because I guess they did not devote so much time to preparing them. So maybe it is not all bad if Maia and Alex skate their competitive programs.

I’m very pleased to see Paradise again. As mentioned before, I’m a big fan of the program, so I’m happy to see it one more time. Also excited to see H/D’s FD again, even though I’ve already seen it live twice. :D

We’re taking our daughters & my parents to the show. I’m very curious to see who they enjoy most live. I really loved the Shibs live in the 2016 SOI.

I'm a bit disappointed too, but oh well, what can you do. I'm just happy to see them and the rest of the cast live.

I feel like Alex and I have a mind meld. I JUST listened to Eric Nam's new song and thinking how awesome it is, and then I see Alex's tweet.

Dang.

As for Stars on Ice, I would've love to see new programs since I've seen the That's Life, Paradise AND Fix You programs in person, but at least it will be new to Mr. P and Toddler P, who haven't seen ANY of them live (cause they stayed home so I could, lol).

ETA: Regarding Eric Nam -- I feel like he and the Shibs have similar career trajectories...When Eric Nam debuted a few years ago -- he had a "cute K-pop" style and this song he's really showing a new side of himself, just like the Shibs are starting to now in recent programs.

I was wondering why Eric Nam was in Mexico. I thought it was just for vacation but it turns out he was also filming a music video there. I became a fan of Eric Nam after I saw the Shibs post pics with him like a year ago and glad to see he released new material. Two songs of Nam's I like are:

Heaven's Door

and

Can't Help Myself

People say he looks like Alex, but he only does at some angles. They both just have really nice, pale skin.

BTW, I love the new Skating Mag cover:

Shibs featured front and center as they should be.

I also like Eric Nam cause he's originally from Atlanta and I love the idea of a U.S.-born K-pop artist being from somewhere OTHER than California or New York.

And YES to Shibs being the center of attention for once! LOVE IT.

If that's the case, we may have a reason why they declined an invitation for Dancing with the Stars. They want to maintain their amateur status!

Doing DWTS won't hurt their eligibility status, and I don't think they were invited to do DWTS. I do hope they continue though. I want to see more programs from them.

It looks like they mixed "Fix You" and "Paradise" as this clip definitely has choreography from the first section of their Fix You FD:

I saw SOI Saturday night in Orlando and this is exactly what they did. Used the Paradise outfits. We had pretty good seats -- about 8 rows up. My first time to see them in person, Alex's charisma is shocking and Maia is so regal.

Damn, I was about to say that they probably were getting their new choreography because they are in LA :(

Beat me to it! I guess they're retiring since they now have representation to further their entertainment presence.
You may well be right, but it seems to me they like being busy even in the midst of their competitive schedule. An agency brings them opportunities, it doesn't force them to accept all of them, does it? I think they could just be making the most of their Olympic fame. Time will tell. Until then I'm going to go with @chapis on this one.

Also I think it's not unusual for talent agencies to see athletes out or represent them while they're still competing. Or for athletes to pursue separate business ventures while competing.

I just think having IMG representation who specializes in working with active competitive athletes is one thing, but hiring UTA is another. I don't know if Alex wants to wait until he's 30 to jump-start a career in the fields UTA specializes in. We'll just see.

Didn’t the article say that they continue to be represented by Yuki Saegusa and IMG, though? Why would they still need IMG if they plan to permanently retire?

For shows? Davis/White still has IMG representation I believe. Again, I could be wrong, but I've had a growing and sneaking suspicion for a while that the Shibs were really looking beyond competitive skating and Pyeongchang really worked out in the best way possible for them. I am holding out that they are still going to compete and put their all in it, but I also had a nagging feeling that they were looking to explore their other interests and passions as well and were waiting to see what opportunities would be open to them after Pyeongchang.

I really want them to continue competing because I love their skating and I’m interested in what direction they would take their competitive programs next, but if they do retire, I’ll find a way to be excited for their next adventure too. Instead of seeing it as an end, I’ll try to see it as the beginning of an equally rewarding phase of their career that will also be very fun to follow as their fan. At least, after I’m done with the denial and sadness stages of grief :wuzrobbed

But until they officially make some sort of announcement about next season i’ll stick with my denial stage :p

Same, I am happy in my denial stage :summer:.
