The Shibutanis Thread 4: Ready for Paradise

They’re not radically different, but I preferred the former costumes. I’m an ardent supporter of the nude colored top on Alex, so I was never going to love them changing that.

I think Maia's new cut is all about showing more skin or having the illusion of showing more skin.

I don’t dislike Maia getting a little more risqué with her costumes, for lack of a better word. Maia has a great body and has projected her personality a lot more these past few years; showing that off in her costumes feels timely and right.

I feel like it’s actually showing less skin though? Instead of the dress being backless it has illusion mesh now. I don’t know, it’s still a gorgeous dress and maybe I’ll be able to appreciate the effect better on a big screen with more than a few seconds of footage.

True, but I think there are more slits on the front giving the illusion of skin.

I really do think a hot pink shirt on Alex would sort of ruin the framing of Maia that they intently choreographed in the SD. Maybe a milder or muted pink would work.

My first impression at Rostelecom of the Shib's original costumes was that they both looked "nude" from the waist up on TV, especially from the back. In close-up photos though, Maia's dress looked gorgeous and very sparkly. This morning, from the first row at the rink, they both looked gorgeous! I didn't even realize it was a new dress for Maia until I read this thread. I did think it looked more pink on top in person and that probably was the objective of the new dress. Alex's shirt is slightly darker and a beautiful bronze color live. Costumes photograph so differently on the screen.

What is truly important is that they looked so confident, foot perfect and with wonderful choreographed flirting with the audience! I thought he smiled at me and my friend clear across the rink thought he smiled at her personally too! They are ready to bring it!

Ooohhh this makes me feel a lot better about their costumes and their condition overall. Thanks for sharing and I hope you enjoy watching the US championships live!

maybe they are doing this so that the few people who critiziced their original costumes realize that is not so easy to get great costumes and they can appreciate the originals costumes that will come back for the Olympics :D. There were so many teams who really needed a change, not Maia and Alex. But I am so glad that they are having good practices :cheer2:

I tend to prefer low key costumes when it comes to skating, especially ice dance. But I don't like them when they're so plain and simple that they look like practice outfits. I think for the most part, the Shibs have had fairly good choices when it comes to their costumes.

What's funny is that two of my favourite Russians ice dance teams (Klimova & Ponomarenko and Grishuk & Platov) have had a history of absolutely terrible costumes. But I guess I have to remember what era they skated in.

I will be working tomorrow during SD :duh:. That is the reason because I hate competitions in America, always working time :revenge:.

Okay I need plan the competitions in Korea. Apparently SD and FD are monday and tuesday 19 and 20 feb. 10 am local time, 6pm US east time, it is right?:COP:

Yes, 19 and 20 Feb. Evening for Americans, perfection if you live in the East coast, and a horror movie for me in Western Europe : every single figure skating competition is from 2am to 5am. Thankfully I will be on holidays !
