The Shibutanis Thread 4: Ready for Paradise

We fans must be on the same wavelength as the Shibs since Maia just posted a picture from the 2010 NHK after we were talking about it yesterday. I found that entertaining. Of course, her reasons for posting makes more sense as their first GP event as seniors was in Nagoya and now they're about to participate in their fifth GPF there this week.

Oh phooey. They are not coming near me. Long Island is not impossible but it’s a commuter’s nightmare. These shows always used to come to Newark, but no more. Why? I am sure NYC fans would rather come to Newark than L.I.

But I am glad if it’s good for you, VGT.

Newark would have been a lot easier for me from Brooklyn. But I'll do what I have to do.

I went to the show in Portland, Ore. in 2014 and there were a lot of empty seats, so I'm surprised they got one of the dates. I'm guessing since it's off-season for the basketball team, SOI must've received a decent deal.

Newark seems to be a hotbed for sporting events, though I'm scratching my head on what they possibly could be hosting in April...(I see there are a few concerts..). I bet they're expensive to book.

I'm going to need to figure out how to save for all the skating events heading in my area -- Skate America, GPF, SOI. I just spend several hundred on Hamilton tix and Nationals, LOL.

Definitely going to make it work to see Shibsibs and Jason (who incidentally was not on the show I went to in 2014).

Long Island is a much pricier region than Newark! But they definitely had a problem filling seats there for any show. Not that any other venue seems to do well either.

Ice Wars! So old school. :) Well I'm thrilled for all who will be in Long Island.

As for me, I need to decide which of the three PNW stops I want to drive to. Spokane is the cheapest, but I always love an excuse for a Portland trip... [Part of me would love to go to the other Portland!!]

Also, it's SOI and not a skating competition, so I'm leaning toward taking my what will be an almost 3-year-old . I think she'd like the bright lights and colors...I can always have Mr. P play concourse duty if need be. ;)

Ever-patient Mr. P! I think your almost-3-year-old will be fine. Every time I’ve been to SOI there have been tons of kids and the whole show seemed to be pitched to them, or to be more precise, 90% of the (excess) talking and half the skating.

Why is Texas always neglected?, I would think that a city as big as Houston or Dallas could get enough public, but I guess it's not like that. By the way, Maia and Alex were listed to appear in the Grand three lighting celebration in Galleria Dallas at Dec. 2, I thought they cancelled but I just checked and they are now listed to Dec. 16 http://ww.dfwchild.com/Things-to-do/74791/Christmas/Grand-Tree-Lighting-Celebration#
I wonder if I can convince my husband it's worth it to drive down to the Galleria this close to Christmas...we won't discuss what he said when I asked him if he could scope out an ice rink while on a work trip to Detroit...hahahaha

Maia got to the finals in the porny skater of the year poll but no Alex? .

Meanwhile, I can not stop watching their FD, help!! :wall:, I love it, it's amazing, much better than Fix you in my opinion. I noticed that in the broadcast replay they did not include the rotational lift, but when I saw the moments they chose to replay I realized that this program has many highlights. If I could ask them to work on something, it would be their last step seq, it was much better than Rostelecom, but I think it could look even better, although I know that their main focus is to get a level 4 and for that sometimes they have to sacrifice other things.

We were treated to Maia's blog for Team USA right before Rostelecom Cup, and now it's Alex's turn:

They really have different styles, don't they?

It's so cute to see Alex championing Maia's piece with him saying: "Go! Save yourself… Read something with depth! Learn something!"

I totally agree with his sentiment. Everyone should go and read more things with depth.

Why must praise of a new program perpetually be linked to putting down Fix You? Fix You was a masterpiece that thrilled audiences everywhere and got the Shibs back on the Worlds podium with their first US title. Why can’t they have more than one great program?

Half of the blog praising Maia, typical Alex.

I do not think Fix you is a bad program, it's just that I like their current program and last year's program more, I said it, IN MY OPINION. Maybe I feel the need to compare them because people often praise Fix you too much and I feel that these last two programs deserve more love.

Many people have expressed that they prefer Fix you over their last two programs, including you, or well, at least I remember that last season you did not like Evolution much, and it is ok, that is your opinion, I think I have the right to express the opposite.

I have a feeling Alex will be doting on whoever it is he's going to marry, if he chooses to marry.

In other news, they've added another endorsement and are joining Hershey's Ice Breaker Mints' Team Unicorn:

https://globenewswire.com/news-rele...gh-Olympic-Winter-Games-PyeongChang-2018.html

As a symbol of confidence and the willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve personal greatness, unicorns embody the ‘break through’ mentality. Team Unicorn is comprised of athletes who are young, successful and proud to be different, competing against the very best in the world, and serves as evidence that with a positive mindset, no goal is unattainable.

I think "Evolution" will be more appreciated in retrospect, myself.

LOL at tip #5. Spot on but unfortunately it’s too late for me :drama:

I like how different their styles are. Last time we got such a thorough and in depth look into their journey and the development of their programs, which was great because we were so starved for information about them.

No we’re a little less desperate for news and therefore Alex’s light-hearted, humorous blog fits the moment perfectly

Praise Fix You too much? Really? We have to take points away from FY and give them to Evolution and Paradise?

I would totally understand if you said the newer programs are “even better” than FY, i.e. all are great and the new ones are greater. But putting down FY to praise the new ones I don’t get.

But of course it is your right to feel however you feel. I am just surprised because you’re always so positive, I just didn’t expect to see you putting down a wildly successful Shibs program, of all things.

But anyway, I do love Paradise. I might love it more than FY by the end of the season. “Might”!

ETA: Two food endorsements (if you call chocolates food)? Maybe that explains Alex’s emphasis on food, which I thought was very funny. Congrats to them! Very very impressive and well deserved!

How is ¨Paradise is much better than Fix you¨ putting down FY? Take in account that I am a BIG Shibs fan, so, even when I say that Paradise is much better than Fix you, I still think that Fix you was great, truly great.

I am saying BETTER, it would be different if I would be saying: ¨Paradise is great, to difference of FY that was a bad program¨ or something like that. Anyway, I really like you, so I am sorry if my comment bothers you.

No worries, @chapis. I think you are absolutely lovely. I should probably have kept my mouth shut.
