The Shibutanis Thread 4: Ready for Paradise

Is your daughter in your avatar? she is a doll :swoon:, how adorable!

That was my daughter! She was 5 months then -- she's 2 now. I was actually just experimenting with the avatar feature. But I found a Shibs photo to put instead. Maybe I'll bring it back though. :)

ETA: Speaking of which, I did have her watch both Shibs programs on TV and she actually sat through most of them, which is an achievement given her active nature. SHIBS POWER, ha.

oh, yes, I've had problems with changing the avatar, even if it's not how I want it and I am editing the picture, you can always see it

Here's a super HD version (higher frames per second) of the FD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMrkbFpOPUU

wow, any problem that I had with their music is gone, my problem was only the quality, here I can hear their music perfectly and the intensity that leads in the second part, and accompanied of the high quality image is pure perfection.

I found a video of their practice (FD) from the last day of the competition, It was recorded by someone from the K&C and looks great, especially the twizzles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HTUDKJ6gwc.

Nice Shibsibs shoutout from U.S. men skater Camden Pulkinen, who is heading to JGPF next week: https://www.ifsmagazine.com/u-s-junior-men-final-showdown/

My short this year is set to “Fix You” by Coldplay. My choreographer, Drew Meekins, and I were just messing around with different pieces of music on the ice one day and we came across “Fix You.” We both knew that the Shibutanis had used it and accomplished so many great things with the program. I knew that I would have some big shoes to fill and a lot of expectations for that program because Maia and Alex had skated to that music so well and with so much emotion.

Doing this program has really taught me how to pace myself and how to perform because I really look up to the Shibutanis and I really wanted to display a program at least somewhat close to what they were able to accomplish artistically. I had a lot of expectations of myself and I worked really hard in the off-season with modern dance and ballet to improve my components and my ability to interpret this piece.

Your story about your mom comparing you to the Shibs had me cracking up chapis! My own photo-happy mom would’ve been the same LOL. I’ve learned to just let her have her way when it comes to photos because taking the pictures is faster than sitting through the lecture and dealing with the sad eyes

Same as I thought about the rotational lift, even if their twizzles in the SD don´t get the maximum score, they must keep them because the positive reaction of people toward their twizzles is undeniable, I mean, it is great if people like or love their program, but for people who don´t love it, it is very important to have eye catcher elements, and their twizzles are truly a highlight of their programs. Judges are nor rewarding them as a perfect element yet, unfortunately, but it is almost there, and when teams like H/D or P/C got more points sometimes in their twizzles, Shibs twizzles are definitely more reliable. And it's not because they do not take risks, because doing a set of 8 twizzles in the SD and doing a fourth set of twizzles in the FD is very risky (By the way, I think only the Shibs and Alla/Pavel are doing 4 sets of twizzles in seniors). But it's that Maia and Alex seem to communicate telepathically to each other, I do not even think they train their twizzles much more than other teams, that's just a talent they have.

Loved the story about your mom lecturing you about the photos! I think someone from the Shibs camp does read this thread, so they will enjoy reading this story too.

The Shibs' twizzles are so fast, cover so much ice and are always perfectly timed with the music. Alex tends to drop his head in the later sets. With a simple (maybe not so simple?) correction, all the +3's should come.

This really was an amazing quote by Camden for the Shibs. I love that at least four skaters other than the Shibs are doing Coldplay this season (I'm not counting two others who are using "O" including Adam Rippon) and all of them include "Fix You" in some capacity. It shows how influential they're becoming. Also, one Russian team has already adopted doing 4 Twizzle sets and I wonder if anymore will follow.

I see Alex has taken my advice and has really stepped up his IG photo game to get those followers. I approve :biggrinbo

I don't know what was discussed last year, but I can make a wild guess why sometime who looks as good as Alex would get ignored by the FSU population. Has there ever been an Asian voted PSOTY?

At any rate Alex Shibutani is a fine male specimen who I could look at all day. Bring on more pictures!

Actually, the fact that Alex was in the final last year and not this year is a super good sign ;), at least this forum is coherent with the narrative that the members have followed the last months. Seeing some past winners and how many votes got some girls, it is obvious that the poll reflect everything except porny people .

I can´t believe that GPF is this week , poor guys, 3 programs in 24h, ¨rest¨ 1 week, then travel to Japan . This picture is fabulous too https://www.instagram.com/p/BcOWrRolvGi/?taken-by=maiashibutani.

well, I am not very photogenic, you're not missing anything interesting, but indeed, I took very few pictures, I was too much excited watching the competition, and no pictures with the Shibs because there were always many people and honestly to say just congratulations with my poor English, I did not think it was worth it. But I'll tell you something, during the ice dance victory ceremony, my mom wanted to take pictures of me, I let her take two but she insisted that she wanted to take me more, and I was like, ¨mom, stop it, I do not want more photos, I want to see the ceremony¨, and shortly after I saw to Shibs parents a few rows behind us, I told her to my mom, ¨oh, look, those are their parents¨, then their dad came down the stairs to take pictures of them, and he took them like a million pictures, and they smiling and posing for him, and then he gives them the US flag and he continues to take pictures of them and they keep posing just for him, then my mom told me, ¨look, they let their dad take all the photos he wants, they are good children, yes, they are definitely good kids, that is why they have come so far. You could learn a thing or two from them¨, followed by a 20-minute lecture on how I should try to be like them, actually, everything she was saying made sense, but I was like, ¨Is she really comparing me to the Shibs?, The Shibs made me look bad before my mom?:revenge: ¨ I was about to defend myself by telling her, ¨I'll tell you something about your perfect Shibs... they skate slow and small, they have skated Coldplay the last three seasons in a row and Maia has been checked 6 times for doping just this year, super suspicious situation if you ask me¨, but instead of that I just had to accept that I am not the best daughter :shuffle: .No, my mom was too much focused recording them, that was the screamer girl next to us, she was really excited too.

Chapis, you are much too critical of your English skills. You write wonderfully (and I suspect you are downplaying how photogenic you are as well). I love the story about your mom. It reminds me so much of my own mom. I guess it's true that no matter where you are from, your background, ethnicity, etc., ALL moms must undergo the same "mom" training. Moms rule:respec:

Thank you @VIETgrlTerifa. Funny how we Shib fans keep digging through history just trying to pass the time before the next competition. Very much looking forward to the showdown this week!

I chose back to back night shifts for this Thursday and Friday weeks ago and now I might miss all of dance at the GPF. Nooooooo what have I done?! :wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed
I effed up :(

Clearly I am not used to planning life around skating yet. Fail.

That Igor and Shibs video is super super cute though. Igor was so happy for them. I wonder if they’re still on good terms.

Damn!!!, I did the same :wall:, I work in the afternoons but I committed myself to work this week mornings and afternoons, I think that on Thursday the SD is at 6:40 am and I go to work at 7am. But that arrangement was made a month ago and I had forgotten it completely :duh:, if it were not for your post I would not have gone to work tomorrow  :scream:, thank you. I never miss my job, I promise.

But see the positive side MRani, we will avoid the nervousness of watching live.

Hahahahaha omg. Well I’m glad posting about my misfortune was actually helpful to someone somehow :p

I suppose I could still watch the SD at 5:40am for me, and then nap before I have to be at work at 5:30pm. But the singles SPs and FD (if it’s on Friday) will probably be a lost cause. Ok I maybe overreacted just a little :shuffle:
