Had to go to page 7 to find this thread! I know they were a bit off the radar at Worlds but how beautiful was that free skate! Great job, was happy to see them at Worlds and skate well. They have a bright future and look forward to seeing them just get better!

Please let them (and literally everyone else) be injury-free this coming season.
(I'm saying this about every two weeks because I'm trying to will it to happen)

And please, God, let their SP be a bit more mature this year (Sui/Han ditched the 'cute' a few years ago. Take note...) and their LP not be skated to some war horse as so many will choose to do...
Or belong on a cruise ship.

They are too unique. Programs need to make a statement and separate them. I hope they go for it.
 
Julianne and Charlie will skate to "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Lorde for their SP this season. Not sure yet who the official choreographer(s) is/(are), but there has been at least definite input from dance choreographer Sam Chouinard.

I am not a fan of Lorde's music, but I think this piece and a more modern/contemporary feel will work for them, and especially help them stand out against I/M's typical overly-romantic style.

Unfortunately they have withdrawn from the Quebec competition... was hoping to see the whole program this morning.

There is an article about Seguin and Bilodeau in the Journal de Quebec today. It is in French, but if my French translation skills are correct, some highlights are:

- They would love to go to Olys, but are trying to not think about February yet and take things one step at a time.

- They are thrilled about Worlds 2020 being in Montreal; Josee Picard, their coach, thinks that will be their time as she predicts only two teams in the current world top ten will still be skating competitively after this season.

- Julianne estimates that over the past year, they were probably only able to spend about two months total actually healthy and practicing full elements, because she had to recover from multiple concussions. (It says "a series of concussions", so I guess at least two?)

- They feel they have learned from these injuries and the time they had to spend out of competition.

Someone on the music thread in GSD reported that their FS music is "Where's My Love" by SYML. SYML is the solo project of Brian Fennell, the frontman of American indie rock band Barcelona. Looks like they're going for a much more contemporary style this season!
 
Just watched it and it's so good! So edgy but smooth at the same time, if that makes sense? But the score seemed really low for what they did??
 
Really lovely FS. It reminds me somewhat of Dube/Davison's "The Blower's Daughter", which was one of my favourite programs of that Olympic cycle (and won them their only world medal).
 
That FS was fabulous! Wow. And it's only September. They really skate as one, I was totally impressed! So good!
 
Apparently they've only done a run-through of their free program a handful of times (like...three) before tonight. Can't wait to see what this looks like with more miles on it.
 
I love S/B's more mature look this season, and two great new programs. Did M-F Dubreuil have input on both programs or just the fp?

It will be a battle at Canadians for 3rd spot at Olympics and Worlds, but with these programs, S/B might have the edge over M-T/M.

I think Sam Chouinard was the official choreographer for the SP, but Marie-France may have had some input.

As for S&B vs. MT&M, I know most people have started thinking of I&M as easily Canada's number 2 now, but given Liubov's extreme inconsistency on the SBS jumps and the fact that S&B, when healthy, have beaten them many times before, I would rather think of the battle as one for second place instead of third. (Personally, I think S&B's skating quality is miles above MT&M and I also am in the minority in that I think I&M are massively overrated and S&B often underrated when it comes to PCS.)

Thanks for the info about S/B's sp. They are a special pair who came on the scene young with a great deal of talent. This is their cheer thread so I'm sure fans here are rooting for them, which sometimes means you may not enjoy their rivals as much, more-so for emotional reasons. I can surely admit to that myself re my fave skaters vs their rivals. It can get emotional. In this case, I enjoy both I/M and S/B and so I can analyze their strengths and weaknesses with some degree of objectivity. I give I/M credit for improvements they have made. The biggest issue I/M have is Luba's inconsistency on sbs jumps, but she was pushing through to get better on those last season and she showed progress. I think problems with jumps can become a mental issue, beyond technical (as witness Mervin & Marissa). You have problems technically and then the technical issues are worked on, but the mental side of it is difficult to overcome in competition.

For S/B, they have had growing pains as a young team. And then the past two seasons they've dealt with some injuries which slowed their momentum, and also impacted their confidence. In addition, their sp selection last season did not work, so they eventually went back to a more successful former sp. In the process of experiencing injuries and competitive setbacks, they lost momentum, which also impacts how they are viewed as a team rep-wise, unfortunately. But that's figure skating. It seems as if their scores have dropped a bit, so they will have to build back up and show strength and consistency. All they can try to do is their best. But the sport is such that teams get slotted into specific scoring ranges based on rep and fed politics. That's the sport. It's great when skaters show they can't be denied, but that isn't easy. It has to be a perfect storm of circumstances coming together just right.

Of course I/M must live up to the momentum and results they achieved last season. However, I think they have a lot of backing at the moment, and the glimpse of their new programs looks good. Anything is possible to happen in any given situation, and outcomes can surprise. On paper at the moment, I think spots 1 and 2 are between D/R and I/M with D/R having the winning edge because of their champion status, but D/R have to get their confidence and consistency going this season. The third spot at Canadians will likely be battled out between S/B and M-T/M who are neck and neck now, but I think S/B are stronger. If I/M falter in comps this fall, of course S/B have a better chance of battling them for the 2nd spot at Canadian Nationals.

Don't get me wrong - I like I/M well enough, even though their style isn't really my cup of tea, but I still think that their supposed "artistry" is quite overrated. They build up a lot of speed from empty stroking and often have the same facial expressions and body movements regardless of what music they are skating to (esp. her). Their lifts are quite spectacular and her flexibility and lines are lovely, definite strengths, but I am still often baffled at their high PCS marks, especially when they have several technical problems in one program.

MT&M are just not my kind of skaters in terms of base technique. I give them credit for how much they've improved since they started out together, but much preferred Moore-Towers with Dylan, personally.

And of course, I understand that reputation and momentum strongly affect PCS, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. The fact that, for example, Duhamel and Radford (who I really like!) got higher PCS marks than S&B in the LP at Autumn Classic with a disastrous and disconnected skate makes sense to me because they are multiple-time World champions, but doesn't make any sense otherwise.
