Zhurankov: he is a very smart expert. At least, in reference to his work with his students, how he tunes up one's mind before a competition.
Yagudin: It is a puzzle for me: how he prepares his athletes. As far as I know him, he is an absolutely gentle person, very kind, he lets everything go through his heart, everything what he does. Maybe it results in success for his students.

When they were skating together in shows, Patrick Сhan asked Alexei to help with his axel. Alexei tried to help, but nothing has changed. Alexei says, that the problem is in the beginning. It is possible to start axel from the edge or from the "stopper". Patrick has something between two possible variants. Patrick "absolutely doesn't go up".

Yagudin: I guess Stéphane... (I've spent very much time with him, when we were skating in many foreign shows) I guess Stéphane is a person who lets all his work go through his heart. He can't just come to a training, spend some time with his students, make some comments and go away. Stéphane is one of those people to be proud of for the figure skating world. Maybe I shouldn't say, that there are few such people, but I guess he is as great as Nikolai Morozov, Alexei Mishin, Tatiana Anatolievna Tarasova, and many others. These are such coaches who will spend every minute, every second with a student. I guess Deniss (Vasilievs) went to Switzerland in order to have such an attentive coach, in order to work with great Stéphane Lambiel.

Yagudin: I know his parents. I know how deep they are involved into the complicated figure skating world.
Alexei also was praising Ten - as he is used to do. :)


Alexei says this is the first time he comments for TV.

It is said Yagudin was commenting ladies as well (free program), but I haven't watched ladies yet. I will have time for that, but a little bit later.

I've been waiting for him to do commentary. He's such a pragmatic and insightful person. I love this.

Pragmatic? :) He was telling right during commenting, that he wasn't very attentive to the recent news in skating, that he has daughters now, you know. :)

I LOVE that. I think he's very.... honest. He's exceptionally Russian. There is no diplomatic answers or comments to make someone feel better. And I think he knows the sport very very well from a very unique perspective. I would kill to have him and Kulik do commentary. It would be savage and amazing. LOL

I was asked to tell what Alexei was saying about Mikhail Kolyada and Dmitri Aliev, when he was commenting SP for the "Russia" TV-channel. I've done it:

Ugh... I love his commentary and I do love that it seems to pain him to say anything negative about Kolyada. The more I read about Kolyada, the more I see the severe anxiety of Kulik in him from his competitive days and the seeming inability get past errors to pull through and move forward. This was always Yagudin's strength, to be able to keep moving forward, forget the error or fall and finish a program strong. so I'm not surprised that he praised Aliev, who has that competitive spirit and ability to push past adversity as well.

I hope he is the one who is going to invent the questions? :) That can be really funny (I hope)! He is used to predict questions, when questions are not asked yet. Will he ask something unpredictable? :)

After the Olympics Alexei did an interview with Medvedeva, but in his instagram he answered to those who were saying Evgenia should have been the winner:

People also were saying he looked tired during that interview - he answered he had slept only 3 hours.

We also could see his second interview. His friend Ilya Kovalchuk (ice hockey) was his guest. I think Alexei was more relaxed this time.

It's a shame he skated in the same era as Plushenko! Evgeni literally shortened Alexei's career and his accomplishments! Yagudin could beat all other skaters in his sleep and cut back on the debilitating "quads!" When he went up against his junior, he was forced to add 2 quads to his programs since Plushy's technical side was so good even at the early age of 15! I think Alexei pushed it when he went after every title in 2001-02 season just before the Olympics! He won Euros, GP Final, OG, & Worlds, but it cost him! He came into Chicago for the '02 GP season and immediately retired from the amateur ranks, going pro due to hip issues! Some will say he already had physical problems, but I think Evgeni exacerbated the situation making Alexei do more just to win over him! :rolleyes: :COP: :duh: :wall: :puppet: :yikes:

They have shown seven Alexei's interviews with athletes for matchtv. Now he doesn't talk so much about himself. Maybe they wanted him to speak like an athlete, to be not only an ordinary host - but nobody knew how should it look like.
Now his rubric is called "Ice melts".
:) It seems now he sleeps more than 3 hours before doing an interview.


It seems Yagudin has one more TV-show where he is the host. It is called "Choosing a pet". One post (not Yagudin's) was saying, that they will show it in September. He says he has many new friends among animals. He posted the list of friends:
