But, also, false! Those are all great country artists, but they set the table for what was to come in the '90s & '00s. Plus, artists like Cash, Parton, Lynn, Harris & Nelson were all still actively releasing new material in the '90s and '00s.

In theory, I don't have any problems with this team-up. Neither of them's been accused of any crime, let alone one that should see them barred from competition. His previous partnership has been cleanly if perhaps not amicably dissolved, and presumably hers has too, out of the public eye. It's fine. They're fine.

In practice, though, I'm just not interested.
 
Vanessa James already held a Canadian passport, which, although not in any ISU communication, supposedly helps to keep members from hanging on indefinitely.

Of course, Canada might have been willing to release Fournier Beaudry anyway, because it does whitewash Sorensen's suspension, or, at least, kicks the can down the road.

Since the ISU has been making noises about be anti harassment, I wonder if they will append the rules to require a release if a skater's partner is ruled ineligible to compete.
 
I don’t think I have a problem with this pairing even though I feel I am supposed to believe I should? But not sure why. I almost know that I would be thrilled if they were gonna compete for Canada, so whatever. Good for France.

Anyways, did Vanessa get her French citizenship so quickly as would have to be the case for Laurence?

Beyond the pretentiousness, it's just ick when you think of how they ended up together and when. There aren't a lot of skaters where I can't put personality and history and character aside when I'm watching them skate, but this team will be among them. I don't think their paths crossed "like two stars destined to shine in the same sky." IMO, that's not how they ended up together.

But are we seriously just realizing this now? Are these the people to go after or the people who've enabled them? In poor taste, yes it is. But time has a way of sorting things out. Wouldn't it be funny if these two are playing catch-up for the whole season? I think we can relax, they are still just a concept.
 
It's a controversial situation, for sure.

Until we see them, I'll try to stay neutral at least about Lawrence. But I am... confused? How their skating styles will mesh?

First, I'm just voicing my opinion. If you consider that "going after" them, then a heck of a lot of people on this site are "going after" a LOT of skaters. I'm not sure why these two skaters should be exempt. Second, it's not mutually exclusive. Third, I don't know the extent of who "enabled" whom, but there are people who seemed to be fine and dandy working with someone who has been banned due to his misconduct.

And, more to my original point, it's just nonsense that these two came together because of destiny or whatever ridiculous whitewashing they want to give to Sorenson's misconduct that brought them together as a team. I stand by my opinion that the language in that post from them was beyond pretentious. They are not pairing up because they are two stars destined to shine in the same sky or some "dance written by the years, and fueled by the fire of our dreams." That's not what brought them together. It's a preposterous (and pretentious way) to whitwash the sad and disgusting reality of what led them to team up, which makes me dislike them more.
 
I don't follow ice dance that closely so this is an honest question - although I realize it's subjective. How good do we expect this new team to be? They will be competing against teams who have been together for a very long time. It can take time for a team to gel.....have they ever skated together in public before? Is he that amazing without Gabby? Is she at his level?
As amazing as Scott Moir was, I don't know if he would be anywhere near as good without Tessa....is that a good comparison for this situation?

The Olympics are very, very soon........

i mean the short answer is no one has any idea until we actually see them competing. It sounds like they have the french fed and iam behind them though. How far that takes them is anyone's guess.
 
The shift in ice dance style that places less emphasis on hold is undoubtedly favourable to a newer partnership.

That said, it's worth noting that Guillaume in particular hasn't skated competitively in three years and for much of that period wasn't regularly skating with anybody as a partner (as far as we're aware) even in shows.
 
I don`t expect them to medal at the olympics, Canada must be pretty confident that Piper and Paul can get the job done next year to release laurence so quickly.

Normally it would be a big stumbling block, but GOOD LORD the top 3 dance teams are stale:

Chock/Bates, great gowns, beautiful gowns. Mediocre ice coverage.
Gilles/Poirer, easy on the eyes, probably my favorite of the top 3, but Olympic champs? Meh.
Italians, limited personality, limited voice. Good basics.

I'm not a big fan of Cizeron and on paper this new partnership isn't a great match, but I do think they have a shot. This is a vulnerable top 3.
