The Dance Hall 12: Boston Tea Dance Party

With the Senior GP Final line-up sets, the composition of the panel of judges for the Grand Prix Final is also almost set:

1) Great Britain
2) USA
3) Canada
4) Italy
5) France
6) Ukraine
7) Germany
8) and 9) two among Finland, China and Japan

First priority is those with an entry in Senior GPF
Second priority is those with an entry in Junior GPF
Third priority is organizers of Senior GP stages. The first two sets of priorities cover 7 spots, with 3 countries from the third priority list available for the last two spots. Up to the ISU to sort them in the next few days.

Germany didn't sent a judge! They are a quite sizable pool of ISU judges. So it is a bit strange no-body was available.
Finland is in. China and Japan are also MIA but they have small pools of ISU Ice Dance judges and not so much interest given absence of their own skaters.
They completed the panel with Georgia (Salomé Chigogidze who was already on site for Pairs. Fourth priority is judges already on site for another discipline) and Spain (5th priority is GPF host but France was already represented. And so they set with 6th priority which is countries with alternates in the Senior Final).

Referee from USA (Janis Engel)
Technical controller: Leanna Caron from Canada
Technical specialists: Joanna Budner (Poland) and Marie Louise Gijtenbeek (Netherlands)
Budner called JGP Bangkok and Nebelhorn. Gijtenbeek was at Nebelhorn to + JGP Gdansk and Denis Ten Memorial.
Caron did Lombardia Trophy.

IDK, we know that Chock/Bates can have a major error and still win Worlds, so not sure a fall would completely knock them off the podium.

Gilles/Poirier should be working on muttering their little counter curse tho.

Guess I better starting listening to the Lilah Jo Show Podcast to pay my penance and beg for forgiveness.

Listen, just because the doll says that ChoBat fall at Worlds and FearGib make the podium does not mean that ChoBat are off the podium. And it doesn't mean that FearGib make the podium because ChoBat fall. It just means that both of these things happen at Worlds, lol.

But really, I think the doll is playing with fire and may regret the havoc being wreaked this season by the time the Olympics roll around in another 14 months.

Thoughts on the Final implications for each team:

Lopareva/Brissaud - it went fine. I don't think this event did anything for them that qualifying for the Final hadn't already done. In a good position for that Euros bronze.

Gilles/Poirier - RD obviously was a disaster. Notwithstanding that they didn't quite pull up on Lajoie & Lagha in the overall standings, the free dance broke about as well as it could have for them; they were convincingly second in the segment and none of their rivals got some big judging boost.

Lajoie/Lagha - the RD score was surely a disappointment in terms of separating them from teams they might otherwise have been hoping to challenge. In the free dance they hung in with those teams, though. That 4CC bronze feels pretty in the bag as long as they don't mess up.

Fear/Gibson - first podium at a major non-regional competition, that's got to feel good. Close enough to the Italians that they can dream of a Euro title.

Guignard/Fabbri - notwithstanding the silver medal, the underlying trends of this one aren't all that positive for them, especially when they didn't have any mistakes. Decidedly behind Gilles & Poirier in the free, and the Brits are getting too close.

Chock/Bates - smooth sailing.

Mariia Nosovitskaya/Mikhail Nosovitskiy (https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00103319.htm) have ended their long sibling partnership - Misha recently announced that he is looking for a new partner (now listed on IPS): https://www.instagram.com/p/DDQH2JRRiEG/

I’m shocked that they are splitting at this point in the season! And they were one of the more enjoyable international mid-ranked teams, too.

This should clear the way for Tkachenko/Kiliakov to be Israeli #1.

Time is running out to get Europeans' minimum TES.
Other than Golden Spin, the other events before the entry deadline are
Santa Claus Cup (this week)
Bosphorus Cup (this week)
EduSport (10-15 December) also feature Ice Dance this year

Santa Claus have the following team with realistic chance to achieve it and with realistic chances to be in contention to be selected by their own Fed:
Samantha RITTER / Daniel BRYKALOV, currently off by 3.94 points (thanks SkatingScores)
Maxine WEATHERBY / Oleksandr KOLOSOVSKYI, off by 8.54 points
Olivia Josephine SHILLING / Leo BAETEN, off by 0.44 points
Angelina KUDRYAVTSEVA / Ilia KARANKEVICH, off by 0.91 points

Bosphorus Cup have:
Kristina DOBROSERDOVA / Alessandro PELLEGRINI, off by 0.89 points
Katarina DELCAMP / Berk AKALIN, off by 2.12 points

EduSport Trophy pushed Weatherby/Kolosovskyi over the Euro minimum too. Actually they also got the minimums for Worlds.
Also the new couple skating for Romania (Ziobrowska/Judd) achieved the Euro TES at first attempt. They are only 2.5 points off the World minimum (with a fall on a choreographic element).

Sadly, Mexico's Stanley/Urano failed to get the 4CCs min (2.02 shy) - but they improved their CTES by something like 13 points. I wouldn't be surprised to see them and Aversano Martinez/Bennett at Sophia Trophy in early January giving it one last shot in order to compete at 4CCs.

Looks like the Sofia Trophy entries are updated on the European Criterium website - http://www.europeancriterium.eu/sign_up_list

Last chance for CTES mins ahead of the 4CCs entry deadline for Stanley/Urano; lots of junior teams trying for Jr Worlds CTES mins (last event for those will be Bavarian Open).

Jr Ice Dance (10 entries - some of the jr ice dance men are listed under sr ice dance men, lol)
BUL - Silvia Lutay/Gleb Riaskin
EST - Ksenia Sipunova/Miron Korjagin
FIN - Enna Kesti/Oskari Liedenpohja
FRA - Celina Fradji/Jean-Hans Forneaux, Louise Bordet/Martin Chardain, Lena Maliqueo Repoux/Ilia Sylnelnikov, Lou Koch/Lucas Chataignoux
GBR - Kiah Whieldon/Jamie Hammond
POL - Yelizaveta Lisova/Jakub Janicki
SWE - Anna Mackenzie/Wesley Lockwood

Sr Ice Dance (11 entries)
AZE - Samantha Ritter/Daniel Brykalov
CYP - Angelina Kudryavtseva/Ilia Karankevich
FIN - Yuka Orihara/Juho Pirinen
FRA - Marie Dupayage/Thomas Nabais, Natacha Lagouge/Arnaud Caffa, Loicia Demougeout/Theo Le Mercier
MEX - Harlow Lynella Stanley/Seiji Urano

SUI - Gina Zehnder/Beda Leon Sieber
UKR - Mariia Pinchuk/Mykyta Pogorielov

Anyone hear anything about the rumor that 21st century dance party RD may not happen next season due to copyright issues?
What poetic justice it would be if the copyright issues that have been driving everyone crazy end up saving us all from that terrible fate.
I've been wondering/hoping that copyright issues may wind up being enough of a challenge to the ISU that they tell the IDTC to scrap the 21st century dance party RD theme.
I hope its true and we are given the waltz as the RD.
If not a "Grand Ball" type of theme then at least a 1920s/30s jazz theme with a foxtrot.

Probably, though Ichilov is the same height as Nosovitskaya, plus Nosovitskiy has more experience than her current partner so if this winds up being a reshuffle, I suppose one should wait & see. Still starting all over again is starting all over again.
