Hilary Selby was also the TC at JGPF, where the Mrazeks had the 2nd highest BV in the RD and the highest BV in the FD.

Anyway, I'm so looking forward to Junior Ice Dance :) There is a nice depth in ice dance right now and any ice dance fan should be super happy about it. I hope for an exciting competition. May the best team win!

So apparently the rule about no tech panel members from the same countries as the podium finishers from the year before doesn't pertain to juniors.

Treated myself to Original Ice Dance 2006 in Torino. No commentary and high definition! With the 9 falls :yikes:and the infamous Barbara stare , it was quite the event! Guess I'm in a skating lull until Worlds. (Junior Worlds will help fill the gap) Random thoughts: The current rhythm dances don't use any better music, in fact quite a few of the same songs were used in 2006. The dominant costume color was coral. Men did wear more color in 2006! Tanith's sassy red dress was held together with rubber bands - amazing she didn't get a costume deduction. Navka's parrot tail and leopard print costume and Galit's white feathers were unique at the time. Most impressive is number of skaters from that event who are currently coaching or doing choreography. (M. Wing, A. Lowe, R. Zaretsky, D. Petukhov, Ben Agosto, Fabian Bourzat, Galit Chait, Tanith Belbin, Barbara Fusar Poli, John Kerr, R. Goncharov, M. Scali, O. Schoenfelder, M. Dubreuil, P. Lauzon, M. Margalgio--there are probably more coaching at lower ranks.)

I've always wanted to rewatch the 2006 OD and relive the Scary BabsStare but have been a little afraid to.;) Might give it a shot on the weekend.:babspmm1:

Thanks for the link - what a trip (and fall) down memory lane!

Tim Dieck's in London this week, and it looks like he's hanging out at Nile Wilson's gym (Olivia's DOI partner) - https://www.instagram.com/stories/tim.dieck/3049521698033622123/

I'm  at this being posted this week after DL just went on a tangent on the last TSL regarding Olivia's prospects and speculating that perhaps she should team up with Jean-Luc Baker because he thinks Kaitlin is done.

Glad I missed that one, because WTF??? (I mean, I guess he and Adrian are close in height, but...)

This is such a trip - thank you so much. I didn't love this transitional era of ice dance, with the last vestiges of the class of 1998-2002 with sometimes heavy-seeming skating (Lauzon). Certain elements that are so snappy and sharp today are... well, hard to watch from 2006, understandably. But this event was not as unenjoyable as I remembered.

Also, I forgot Wing & Lowe trained with Marina & Igor. I really wish those two had been better dancers. I loved so many of their programs, and Megan consistently had amazing costumes. She stood out amid a lot of... dynamic stuff in 2006.

Jean-Luc is probably a couple inches shorter than Adrian. And yeah, WTF.

If the ISU heights posted are remotely true, it's not even an inch but 2 centimeters. Jean Luc is 170cm while Adrian was 172. (Olivia being 165cm)

There's multiple reasons why DL's assertion is ridiculous, height being almost arbitrary. Citizenship, etc., but most importantly, I really hope Ms. Hawayek is not even close to done. :)

After watching junior world dance, we're going to see some fierce, intense rivalries over the next 8 years. My goodness.

This was the 2nd best dance competition in my opinion of the year. Euros and World Juniors have really shown the talent and quality of Ice Dance.

Yup. Confidence restored. But why were B&B so wobbly. They IMHO should really go to the IAM school. They need a different environment to keep them motivated and to learn how to cope with stress. Their current team has given them great basics but I believe they could level up further.

The South Korean team though, wow :)

Grimm/Savitskiy are out of the FD today. Darya has food poisoning plus a fever. :wuzrobbed (Cross-posted in the competition forum.)

Feel better Darya!

I think I'd have to agree - in fact I'd be more tempted to have them at the Ontario school - while the environment is likely not as high pressure I think that the coaching staff there could be a really good fit for them.

Awwww. What terrible news! Their FD has been one of my faves this season.
I’m sorry too, as I like them.

Which reminds me of something. Food poisoning seems to be weirdly common in skating—so often that is the reason given for a withdrawal. Anyone on this board have a clue as to why this would be? I mean, food poisoning is not all that common in other spheres of life.

I’ve wondered about this for a long time!
