Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

Sorry, but I was really disappointed, when saw PC live, especially in SD. I wanted to see them live, because last time I saw PC at 2014 TEB and enjoy there skating on TV since 2015. But what I saw on ice wasn't what I expect to see. Now I understand last season results very clear. Like one woman in audience said:
A couple with a reputation, their crown elements, people know them well, but there is no such superiority on the ice compare to others

Shibs in SD at CoR were so much better...
I like pattern dance, rotational lift in FD (but this time it was slower, then Beethoven).
I know maybe in some countries it's tradtional to not let people to have there own opinion.
Sad I didn't saw VM after comeback and this season, but if they skated in the same way, with such speed and power, I will not support them at OG ;)

. To me, H/D have the best FD by a mile, which is interesting, considering they're #3 in their camp
For me this FD look boring, skating look heavy. But of couse I didn't saw them live.

P.S. I don't care about results, because nothing about sport in ice dance left and everyone know PC got there gold in 2015, but I am very sad, that I didn't enjoy last group at ECH, because I love ice dance the most. I loved Danish team, Sarah and Kirill, ZG in FD.

In Pani’s defense..if she feels they were slow at that competition than that’s her opinion and she’s entitled to that (as biased as that may seem).

No. She can hate their programmes or whatever. She is not entitled to her own facts. Papadakis/Cizeron’s ice coverage and speed was significantly better than any other team at Euros. That is not a matter of opinion. It is a fact.

A "fact" no one in this thread probably cares about.

A question for my fellow Tessa and Scott fans: How will you deal with watching their last competitions? I was already close to a heart attack during their "normal" competitions. Sochi was a nightmare but I still had hope that they would continue. Now it will really be the end. I don't know how I will survive the Olympics lol. :D

I love how MacIntosh called them "masters of complexity". So true.

I never said I didn’t have biases, but Papadakis/Cizeron were significantly better than any of the other teams at Europeans. In all aspects of their skating. To suggest otherwise as @pani is doing points to the fact that she doesn’t have a clue about what constitutes good ice dance. It’s also very disrespectful.

I may critique Virtue/Moir’s programmes, but I would never post that they are weak skaters. Because that would not be true.
You're calling out disrespectful? Seriously? This is FSU! It's no more or less disrespectful than thousands of posts here
Pani no doubt was a bit OTT calling them slow, but was their Europeans FD really worth another WR?

Anyway I really don't want to turn this thread into another "whose-the-best" thread. This thread is for V&M. Let's leave it at that.

World records in ice dance don't mean anything, its basically humans judging a performance the score is irrelevant anyway I think if V&M skate perfectly in Pyeongchang they deserve the perfect score.

Esp step sequence in SD was on two feets and very slow. And any WR couldn't change this fact ;)
Allezfred, sorry if my opinion made you angry, didn't you think you are show to many aggression, what will happened to you, when PC will stay without medal at OG?
OK. before i talked about i need to stay away from this thread and agressive French.
Have a good time and wish PC all the best and to learn how to skate with more power and speed in next cycle!

A fact according to who? You? Clearly you perceive them to be faster and Pani did not in that competition. Neither is fact and a third person who watched it probably has his/her own ideas about their skating. Whether you like it or not skating esp ice dance is subjective. I really don’t want to get into this anymore because there is clearing no winning this argument.

Musical interpretation and choreography is subjective. Speed and ice coverage is not.

I honestly don’t know how i’m going to watch the Olympics. In 2010 I missed their SD and was stunned to see them 1st but watched the FD live on TV. And they won gold. In Sochi, I watched both the SD and FD live in TV...and we all know what happened. Rationally I know this doesn’t matter but the superstitious part of me want to repeat 2010 and watch the SD after the results come out. :D I’m probably more nervous than they are!

:D I totally understand that and did the same in Sochi. Back then I had the feeling that competitions I didn't watch live worked fine and the ones I followed live weren't successful for them, so I thought I wouldn't jinx them and didn't watch it live. You know how that went . Last season I could do whatever I wanted and they won. :cheer2: ;) This season I couldn't find a pattern, so theoretically I should be able watch everything live, but I have a feeling, I'm a fellow member of the "more nervous than Tessa and Scott" club :wall:.

Judging speed is generally as reliable as the individual's eyesight. Ice coverage could be somewhat objectively measured if we had image of the ice tracings. I actually wish the latter was more routinely collected/measured.

You are such a model V/M fan for quoting only what MacIntosh said about V/M!

I haven't checked the timing of the ice dance competitions to know if I would even be able to watch them live. Part of me wants to savor their remaining performances live, but part of me thinks I will be too nervous to really enjoy them live anyway (especially if they show live scoring during the performances). Even though all I want is for them to skate the best they have ever skated these 2 programs (especially in the individual competition) and not really worry about the medals, I think I will still be pretty nervous. I guess I'll make the call when it gets closer to competition time.

Uhhhh... I agree that to some extent, speed and ice coverage are a lot less subjective than other aspects of ice dance, but you cannot claim that your opinion - yes, opinion, based on what you saw with your eyes at that competition on that day - is a "fact" unless you happened to have put some sort of timing device on Gabby and Guillaume's arms while they skated their FD and then recorded their times vs. every other team at Euros when the FD was done. Something needs to be provable with concrete and verifiable evidence to be considered a "fact".

Thank you. However, to be honest, I only did it because I don't want the thread to be derailed by angry PC stans, so I try my best to not mention them whenever possible. :D

The promo for the Tessa/Scott "documentary": https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=F7Iqx0mz3JQ Unfortunately it's apparently very short. It only has a 30 minute time slot, so it's maybe only about 20 minutes long, isn't it?

Why do so many people are surprised by Pani's words? In Helsinki last Worlds and in Europe in Moscow they were really slow in SD, especially step sequences. I'm sure, now, when Tessa and Scott upgraded theirs step sequences to Nationals and sure to Olympics, it will be very good contrast!

Because every people, including commentator have always praised their ice coverage and speed. Except the two of you. I remember many people saying that particularly in the step sequence they don't lose speed, unlike most of the other skaters. So I'm quite surprised by this new attack on them. Attack that I only see on VM fan thread... Allow us to be doubtful.

Now if you want to compare the ice coverage from point A to point B, you can compare their rhumba pattern. Thay have the best coverage among all the european team in Moscow. They actually go from one side of the rink to the other, unlike C/L or S/B who doesn't go as close to the rink, at the beginning and at the end. That's easily noticeable on videos. So saying that several european team had better ice coverage... Wtf ? Again, when I compare the Pst of VM and PC , I see just as much two foot skating.

I agree that they weren't fast at those championships, slower than usual in the FD. I was quite disappointed with that to be honest. But saying that PC are always slower is quite dumbfounding. I shouldn't care about what people say and I usuallt forbid myself to answer about PC on a VM thread, should have done like every other time and ignore the shades mentionned here and there but well this was a little too much for me.

I rarely go to the P/C thread, but is it the same as here? V/M fans spend all the time posting in there?, it is annoying that there are more P/C fans here than V/M fans.
And count me as another person who noticed slower P/C in the European competition, especially in the FD.

I saw that Duhamel and Radfords is 10 minutes long and only online I think.

Thank you. And some posters on this forum complain about "VM ubers".

Oh no, I was so looking forward to a nice long in-depth documentary about them. Thanks for the information anyway!

The documentary is going to be 30 mins long, it's not the same format as DR, not so long but better than 10 mins I guess :)

No, the P/C thread isn't the same, because people are not making dumb claims over there.

If you came over there more often, you'd know that Guillaume was ill during Europeans.

Wow, always nice to see so much kindness.
What do we have to do to make this PC talk stop? Is it enough if we agree that PC are the fastest ice dancers ever??
I don't care because no one is as fierce and amazing as these two http://scottandtess.tumblr.com/post/170455518623/r-o-x-a-n-n-e :p

Seems like I've logged in at that wrong time again.

Frankly, just let us v/m fans have a safe space to discuss, vent (this is still our right) or celebrate v/m without being reprimanded. Is it too much to ask?

Anyhow, thanks for sharing all those new updates (Instagram posts, promo vids). I'm looking forward to watch the Roxanne doc once someone posts it on YT.:)

Well, P/C ubers are free to come post here, there's no rule against it. But there's a definite possibility you'll read things that you disagree with. If you're compelled to defend their 'honour' when they're criticized in an opposing fan thread then maybe it's best not to read it.
