Tarasova/Morozov Cheer Thread

Their LP music is so odd that I can't believe Charlie White choreographed it. That said, I actually like it and think it's a great program. Some really nice touches in there; I'm loooooving Charlie's work for pairs. I think the move to Marina has served them well; they looked refreshed in every aspect of their skating. And they look to be in excellent shape for this point in the season.

I must grudgingly admit that I enjoyed their LP performance, even though I had hated the music prior to the test skate. I am still baffled by the choice of music but it has the potential to grow on me. I remember when I watched B&S skated to Concert for Coloratura, I hated the music but it grew on me because their skating was so beautiful. It could happen with T&M, and their music is not horrible; it just feels odd that a pair who could be a perfect fit for classical music stays away from it.

It will be interesting to see how this program develops. Zhenya looks very determined and Vladimir has developed some subtle body movements that help him be a participant, and not just a frame for the painting. I think probably that’s where Charlie’s ice dance experience may have helped him.

The LP has some real potential!

I just hope as time passes and the program gets more mileage they give it some more intensity and interpretation. I'm not sure they can get away with just power skating their way through it like they could Bolero or Rachmaninov. The music does require more effort then those do and if they want to beat the Chinese and French they got to really give it everything. But it was great for a first performance.

Overall there is definitely a great improvement in the packaging. These two programs at least give their skating some character, which was sorely missing in the past. Kudos to Marina!

Like many of the people here, I’m not a huge fan of the music, but the choreography is excellent! I especially like the opening moves; Evgenia in particular looks like more of a boss instead of the sweet sugar Candyman girl. To me, it’s a big step in the right direction, and maybe the music might even grow on me more as the season goes. Overall, I give it a solid 8 out of 10.

I don’t know what Marina did this off-season, but I couldn’t take my eyes off them both on Saturday and Sunday. They became commanding and fierce. Evgenia seems to be in excellent shape right now - both physically and mentally. She is just shining. And they have found a perfect style/look for Vladimir.

I agree that their FS music is a bit odd, but it works for them - they have amazing technique and elements, but they weren’t born to be performers, don’t have innate musicality and etc. So music with steady rhythm helps them greatly and adds the lacking components to their skating.

Definite improvements over the previous 2-3 seasons. Finally saw a glimmer of projection and expression from Morozov. Modern choreo that still accentuates their speed and big elements. If consistency is up, they will be in contention for gold this season.

Their Bolero is out! :love::love:

Something is different. There’s a sense of freshness. Looks like they also learned a new lift! I’ve always loved this lift when D/F was doing it.

They look so confident now!

I love both programs.

I watched their LP 2-3 times. It has the potential to be electrifying. I love the tiny dance moves they have incorporated as in betweens. I love their intensity and confidence this year. This is what was missing. However I loved their last year's LP too.

Whoever said "Let us wait until we see the program" was right.

I still don't like the LP music, but they've had worse and at least the choreo is good.

They got the music from Maxim Trankov. Apparently V/T were planning a competitive program with it, but they decided to retire. Vladimir asked if he could take it, and Max gave his blessing.

So now we know who to blame. :p

I think above all the new programs work because they cater to their strengths as a team. In the past it always felt like they were struggling and fighting against their natural abilities in a quest to appear more interesting. Like they were ashamed of skating like a classical Russian pair and were doing everything they could do not to be it, which proved to be very detrimental. Someone told them the Russian pairs style was boring, dull, dated and belonged to the past and they (and their team) took it to heart. That's why we got Candyman in the Olympic year. Marina is bringing them back to the traditional while making it modern and that's why they look better then they have in years.

I agree with some of this. The new programs do use their strength well.

I disagree that they are ashamed of being a Russian pair. If you know Russians, they are always proud of being Russian; never ashamed. The only people that have seen slam them are from fsu. I don't know what negative stuff was communicated to them. It is very possible that they really don't care much for classical music, and prefer modern music. They are not alone in this. Medvedeva hates classical music for her competitive programs. B&S hated some of the classical music that was given to them. It may just be a taste and not because they want to be un-Russian.

Their programs last season were very suitable for their skills and styles. What was missing was the fire, the confidence, owning the ice.

I truly believe that they never developed the confidence while they were in Mozer's group. They were always number two (behind Stolbova & Klimov) or number three (behind V&T, S&K). Mozer never seemed invested in them. Finally, after it was clear that S&K could not make a comeback due to Klimov's injury, they may have started getting some attention (like last year). However, even now Mozer seems invested in Z&E, and not in T&M (other than in name). I am very happy that they are away from that environment. It was never truly helpful to them. It may have suppressed them in a way. Now with Marina and her team, I think they can blossom.

Haha, leave it to Trankov to suggest something like this. TBH, I don’t like the music but I think Charlie did an amazing job making a good program in spite of it.

This is so accurate! What I don’t understand is why Mozer favors Z/E over T/M. T/M are clearly the more successful skaters so far, they’re evenly matched, and they likely plan to retire at the same time. Z/E are not as strong, and Enbert has a lot of health problems and won’t probably continue after 2022 anyways. It just seems silly to brag about your sedan when you have a limo in the garage.

yet, it is Mozer Tarasova turns to for emotional support. Clearly, Mozer isn't ignoring them. Moreover, both she and Trankov have been to Florida and participated in their training there. I think people read things into coach/skater relationships that aren't exactly the reality.

Well, I think Mozer supports Tarasova to a point, but I just think it’s strange how she seems to worship Zabiiako/Enbert as the eighth wonder of the world when T/M are clearly the stronger pair.

What would you have her to do?

I guess I just expected a little more of her attention on T/M versus Z/E. However, maybe T/M are more self-reliant than Z/E, so Mozer might just let T/M do their own thing while she’s helping Z/E. I’m not trying to judge her for how she does her business, and I’m sorry if that’s how it came off.

This is going to be their year!! I feel it in my bones!!

Well, the year didn’t start well for them. Second to Cain and Le Duc? Their PCs were so ridiculously low that the competition seems like a farce. I can understand penalizing mistakes but to inflate the pcs of an American pair and intentionally mark down a Russian pair in PCS is plain wrong. They must feel awful. They have the best skating skills in the whole world.

Two weeks ago, I thought they would challenge for the world title this year. Now, I’m worried this will be held against them all season and they won’t make it out of nationals.

I wouldn’t be too worried. T/M just looked off from the altitude and a little sloppy overall. They’re still one of the best teams in the world and I think this loss was just a fluke. Ashley and Tim’s scores were on the high side - mostly in the SP imo - but to be fair, T/M just weren’t on their game here. It’s their first competition of the year, so hopefully they can get their feet under them by the Grand Prix.
