Survivor 50 - In the Hands of the Fans

I love Cirie. She is so good at convincing people and deserves full credit for slaying the dragonslayer. I wonder how many coconuts she had to flip and how long it took her to find the right one.

This was a very satisfying episode. I haven't liked Coach in any of his appearances and am glad to see him gone.

Not about Survivor 50, but since we are here, I'm reading Stephen Fishbach's book Escape.

Kent Duvall, a faded reality show winner, just wants another chance at glory—to find his way out of his depressing life and back to his highlight reel. When a scandal is captured on camera at a charity event, he gets his shot, on a new jungle survival show with seven other contestants. Each of them has been cast as a type—Ruddy the bully, Miriam the nerd, Ashley the love interest—but everyone is more than they appear.

The contestants’ goals seem simple—survive the wild, build a raft, win treasure. But Beck Bermann, a reality producer who suffered her own public shaming, sees them as characters in her redemption arc.

I'm not too far into it, but here's my take so far:

If you aren't a cynic about reality TV, read this book and you will become one.

I know Fishbach has an MFA in fiction-writing from Yale, but to me, the writing is kind of eh. Lots of people disagree but the frequent similes kinda reads writer's workshop to me :shuffle:. But what do I know.

However, the motley crew of castaways has just arrived at their first challenge and there is great potential for plotting, scheming, and general mayhem, so onward.
