Survivor 50 - In the Hands of the Fans

I love Cirie. She is so good at convincing people and deserves full credit for slaying the dragonslayer. I wonder how many coconuts she had to flip and how long it took her to find the right one.

This was a very satisfying episode. I haven't liked Coach in any of his appearances and am glad to see him gone.

Well that sucked for Christian but his ship was sunk anyway. Not a great twist though, his ability to “outplay” by lying about the journey was taken from him

Maybe Christian had already "sunk his own ship" already but really, having to vote for yourself at tribal? Not cool.

I'm so sorry to see Christian go. He was one of my favourites this season.

Not about Survivor 50, but since we are here, I'm reading Stephen Fishbach's book Escape.

Kent Duvall, a faded reality show winner, just wants another chance at glory—to find his way out of his depressing life and back to his highlight reel. When a scandal is captured on camera at a charity event, he gets his shot, on a new jungle survival show with seven other contestants. Each of them has been cast as a type—Ruddy the bully, Miriam the nerd, Ashley the love interest—but everyone is more than they appear.

The contestants’ goals seem simple—survive the wild, build a raft, win treasure. But Beck Bermann, a reality producer who suffered her own public shaming, sees them as characters in her redemption arc.

I'm not too far into it, but here's my take so far:

If you aren't a cynic about reality TV, read this book and you will become one.

I know Fishbach has an MFA in fiction-writing from Yale, but to me, the writing is kind of eh. Lots of people disagree but the frequent similes kinda reads writer's workshop to me :shuffle:. But what do I know.

However, the motley crew of castaways has just arrived at their first challenge and there is great potential for plotting, scheming, and general mayhem, so onward.

Jeff: "One of the most well known humans on earth walks in .... Mr. Beast."

Me: Who the hell is Mr. Beast??

Am I the only one who has no clue who Mr. Beast is or why everyone was so awed by his appearance??

The whole auction thing was so confusing with the rules, i was like whut?? And did Joe even get anything? I think I woulda hit up the fruit & veggie tray with my whole $500 immediately because that wouldn't tear up your stomach after 19 days of barely any food, yet get you some food. Poor Cirie though .... 🤮

I'm glad Devins won the coin toss thing. I kinda like him. He's funny. But I still want either Cirie or Joe to win.

MrBeast is the most subscribed channel on Youtube by A LOT and he also has a net worth over 2 billion. He has his own kind of game show aesthetic. Every single person competing on Survivor these days (and any other reality game show, for that matter) 100% knows who he is. Jesse Lopez from a few seasons back, who I mentioned I felt was the one big snub of this cast, has a son that won half a million dollars competing on one of his challenges which is why I thought maybe he wasn't cast to begin with.

Anyways, people were very very unhappy with Zac Brown playing such a big part of the earlier episode that they were petitioning to have MrBeast's segments not even show up at all later in the season, since he was already shown on the season preview clip and it was known he'd be there. I bet they feel a little bit different after tonight -- that twist was actually a good one.

That said, the season is falling flat for me and most of my favorites in the cast have been long-gone.

Guess why I LOVED this episode. :cheer2:

Cirie and her letter from her dad choked me up. I'm familiar with all of her family members except her father. (((sniffle)))
