Stolbova and Klimov Thread

But did they really need to skip World last year in order to give the performance that they gave today? It's hard for me to believe that.
 Which part of 'they were tired both physically and emotionally' you don't understand? It is obvious that sitting out one worlds did not destroy their career, and at least another pair got their chance. With the depth of Russian pair skating, we should be glad if we see someone else given the opportunity and not all the time the same teams.

I'm going to europeans and I want to stamp some T-shirts rooting for them. Any ideas guys what to stamp? :saint:
Something funny?

S&K were very good today. They both could be a bit more expressive in the faces but that's minor detail. Can someone please give Fedor the same sexy costume style that his partner is wearing? Thank you for the form-fitting pants though ;)

I like their intense faces. They match the music. I definitely don't want something mushy because it will ruin the whole effect. They have taken pairs skating to a different level with their creativity. They were clearly superior to all the other pairs at GPF.

What are her "antics," apart from the meltdown at Euros last season? I feel like people have created this myth around her with very little basis in reality. From all I've seen (again, apart from that one day, which I'm sure she would like to forget), she's pretty down to earth, friendly, with a good sense of humor. I guess the whole "diva" thing is more exciting forum fodder though.

Maybe something with chemistry symbols since so many people seem to think they have none  Fe = iron for Fedor, and Sb = antimony for Stolbova. (I know next to nothing about chemistry, I just looked it up. :COP:) Antimony - From the Greek words anti and monos, which together mean "not alone." :)

Ohhhhh I love that!!!! :swoon:
Thank you zebraswan. I think that's very very original and great! :encore:

Exactly. It is like how Yuka Sato had a huge grin no matter what music she was skating too. Their facial expressions were matching the music and program theme perfectly.

ok i get the meltdown...but that's all I have ever seen. How about someone translating a few interviews etc which show her other side...I am open..On their performance...They were fantastic and I was watching every movement. They definitely should have won on the day and if they continue to skate that program as well as they did they will be very difficult to beat. The program is very deep and serious and suits them completely. I can't wait to see their next competition.

How stupid would you think someone was who did not know you personally but formed an opinion about you that they shared on social media was? Then, if you read that they formed it because they saw you in action for say... Mmmm a few minutes on camera? Don't be biased, just answer to yourself.

We do NOT know these people. Yesterday, at the end of their free dance Alex Shib. Looked like he was barely able to move. Now, at that moment, it was unclear what was wrong. It could have been his reaction to triumph. It could have been perceived as him being melodramatic. What it really was, was that he was exhausted because he was ill. What is my point? Just enjoy the damn skating. You're not always going to get a story nor are skaters obligated to give you one. My other point is that if you post your well entitled to opinion about the ins and outs of a skaters personality who you don't know personally, you look like a blinking a$$hole.

Totally agree! I love how different all the top Russian pairs are (though I don't think T/M have quite found their special niche yet, talented as they are). It would be so boring if they all looked the same.

Not just boring. It will look fake or plastic. When the true personalities come out, the pair touches the audience. All great pairs have or had this quality.

Euros last year WAS NOT the only time she'd thrown a major bitch face at her partner. I think it was 2011 Cup of Russia as well.

OMG, she had a whole TWO bitchfaces thrown at her partner. Horrifying!!

I remember that competition. She didn't throw a bitch face to him. She put her hand on her head and obviously was not happy with the performance, herself included, because they made some stupid mistakes and she didn't land a throw jump. She was actually smiling on the KC later.

I will never understand the obsession that people have with skaters faces and reaction. For me that's quite natural and sometimes lol. Judging the character of a person you don't even know based on these reaction is so stupid, IMO.

Stolbova and Klimov were my highlights of the Gala Finale.

There were some troubles with the final choreography and the figure skaters were crossing to the places were they had later to greet the audiences while the Synchro team were moving to the center, it looked really messy, and Stolbova had to save more than once time colision (it was like they were out for her! ;) ) she was like LOL to the situation.

Then they were at the extreme left of the rink and had the letters to form the word "gracias" (thank you in Spanish) but Fedor was showing his "G" letter turned wrongly all the time, the crowd was trying him to notice but to no avail until the other skaters pointed it just at the end and he put it right for like two seconds . It was really fun. Sadly TV censored it and only showed the other two groups :mitchell:

I know! It's so ridiculous. She's an athlete. It's normal that she wouldn't be happy after a bad performance. I've seen Tom Brady give worse looks to his receivers and nobody calls it a "bitchface." How dare a female athlete have an expression that isn't smiley 100% of the time!!!

How is that unfair when it is true that she DOES get a lot of buzz for her antics? I didn't say that was the only reason she got hype. She's a solid skater, there's no doubt.

She gets buzz for how she acts because it's how skating fans see her before, during and after the skate, they have every right to comment on it. It's a message board and fans will comment on the good and bad. It's not unfair, it's a forum.

It's certainty not a myth since people have been making comments about her attitude since jr worlds. A stroll through the archives will help you.

No one needs to know her personally to comment on the attitude they see either on tv or in person.

You need to look through the archives as well, it's been well documented and has happened to the point where many people see it. Here are a few, from a few different competitions during the years all from different posters.

"Does Ksenia even wants to skate anymore? she seems so uninspired"

"Not an ounce of energy or enthusiasm from them. Are they sick? Or do they hate skating?"

"S/K are skating like they'd rather be doing anything else... including each other"

"Seems like they really don't want to be there."

"Is her heart even in it anymore?"

"Its kinda sad that they seem so unhappy. I hope they are able to find that love of skating once again as its almost painful to watch "them now.

"Ksenia in particular seems rather glum and lacking in spark."

"And her body language towards Fedor is pathetic. Her constant bitch face is starting to come across as sore-loser face."

"Everyone can have a bad day and a have moment of bad behavior. However, we've seen this type of unprofessional demeanor from her before(several times)."

Fans don't use monikers like Ice Queen, death glares and cold unless you've earned them over time. I think it's fine, she's not warm and fuzzy after a bad (and sometimes good) skate but to claim it's rare is putting your head in the sand, which is fine too but the rest of us will still discuss it.

Mozer says they will present the 4S at Worlds. I'm already feeling nervous about it but also thrilled. :drama: I hope they will present it only if they really do feel comfortable with it.

I think trying the quad at the biggest competition of the years is a horrible idea. They would either have to be so far ahead of the competition or so far behind, that a fall wouldn't matter.

 You have way too much time on hour hands.

Go discuss that BS in another thread - they just won the GPF and are currently far and away the best pairs team in the world. Even if she's nothing but a huge bitch.

The OP started this as a fan thread...what a pity some people have to try to ruin it. For every so-called incident of "bitchface" I'm sure there are far more photos or videos where she's smiling, hugging Fedor, having fun with her girlfriends, etc.

I just hate the term "bitchface." Reminds me of those random men on the street who yell at women to smile and get all pissed off when the women don't.

Fans also do exaggerate and use those terms for fun, and even out of love sometimes. Wagner also get's the "Sassy Diva" adjective but perhaps she's not really like this in real life and most probably she isn't a diva at all. I don't remember Anissina gaving a "bitch face" in competition to Gwendal, only smiles, or Oksana to Platov and yet reports were that they couldn't stand each other. So, the fact remains that unless we know skaters personally, we cannot judge them as people based on how they react for a minute after a competition&KC. The fact that Fedor is more discreet&calm doesn't make him a better person, and viceversa. We know almost nothing about them as people, out of ice. With fans she is absolutely adorable and that's all I can speak for certain. Fedor apparently isn't suffering so much since he's still in partnership with her. I don't care about the rest really because I'm not interested or invested in their lives. So I don't really get the "putting the head in the sand" reference. I hope you do understand how ridiculous that sounds.

Maybe that will be their strategy also. Who knows, there is still a lot of time so by then maybe they will feel more comfortable about it.
