Stolbova and Klimov Thread

Boot problems are so frustrating! Every time you have to break in new boots and if they are still not comfortable, try again. I hope she finds the right boots soon.

In this article, after open test skates in Sochi, it says that Ksenia and Fedor are planning to finalise their LP choreography with a modern dance choreographer, not that they had done it before the test skates as we thought. I can't wait to see that once it's done.

They also intend to do some new death spiral, if I'm getting this right?
Google translation.

Edit: I'm told it's about a new difficult entrance on the twist, not death spiral.

I was there the entire competition - like the 7th row. How can I sum this up in a nut shell, less than 10 word description?

This team HATES to skate together in competition. There - 8 words sum it up completely!

She simply hates being out there skating and he seems totally stressed out even taking her hand. They NEVER make ANY eye contact in their preparations off the ice or during the 6 minute warm up. No words. Very little touching for element warm ups. Totally disconnected.

NOTHING.

Even as only a former, very low level pair skater myself, one could see something was CLEARLY WRONG with the way they are together. It was uncomfortable to watch. Like I was a peeping-tom to watching a domestic dispute that was none of my business.

Very uncomfortable. Icy. IcKy. And the skating was clearly uninspired and the FS very sleepy and FUNEREAL. Gosh, bury them already.

Sorry ... off soap box. Discuss?

What's there to discuss? You've already have an opinion and it's a done deal. Bury them.
I've seen them live also and I adore their skating. I love their programs, especially their LP. I liked their performance in SA despite the mistakes, which worries me, but they didn't let mistakes affect their performance. They were in much better shape here compared to Nepala. Their speed and flow is gorgeous to watch.

This was my first time seeing them live. I thought their speed and flow were fantastic. Technically they are brilliant. I notice some disconnection in SP(I did not see the FP live). I think that they are struggling with confidence right now.

I am normally indifferent to S/K's programs, however I think the free program is excellent.

Their packaging this season is outstanding too.

We'll have to see if they can do for the rest of the season.

What a rubbish! There. You wanted to discuss? I summarised it for you.

That's what I think too. Since after the GPF it's like they went into a panic mode. Taking the second half of the season off to work on new elements it's okay but it looks like all this messed up with them. Their throws used to be one of the most secure elements. Now they seems the most insecure and their twist instead of improving has become worse. I hope they can get it together ASAP and Mozer should wake up also.

Both programs are pretty cool. I like the LP better. But 125 with few mistakes? That feels low. Let's see what Russia 1, Canada 1 and China 2 score before I assess if there's a net recalibration of scoring or if S/K have a lot of work ahead of them. I'm thinking the latter.

I thought they were so under-marked. Play their two programs side by side with Scimeca/Knierim & they were in a different class. The Americans should not have been second.
Loving their new programs (Hating her new hair cut-sorry!). I really wish they had gone to the Worlds in March though. It looks like they are trying to hard to compete with the Canadians technical work, it seems they have lost some of their flow because of this.
Their choreography was amazing.

Which elements did you feel were under-marked? They had the highest PCS of the whole field for the short program and were second only to Sui and Han in the free.

I think they were fierce, presentation-wise at Skate America.
I did too. I think Ksenia is still working through the summer issues with her boots. Hopefully, they'll fix them as the season progresses. I don't care if they don't make the GPF (although I'm sure they do). They can focus on Russian Nationals which is the bigger prize as it will determine who goes to Euros and Worlds. If we assume V/T is a lock on one of the spots, that leaves a battle between S/K, T/M and K/S for the other spots. A very good team is going to stay home regardless.

S/K received 8.00 for interpretation yet the US couple received the same ?, not for me, not even close.
Also the US couple received 7.86 for performance & Execution but S/K got 7.75 ?!, no way.
My problem is with Scimeca/Knierim being held up for the silver.

For me I think they deserved high 8's in SS (shame on the judge who gave them 7). 9's for CH, high 8's for TR in the LP, 8's for PE, high 8's for IN. I get that PE and IN are in the grey line, between subjective and objective so it's a bit tricky. It's never a clear subject.

Watching them on TV does them no justice. They are SO fast. I was bummed I didn't get to stay for the FS. Hopefully they put the mistakes behind them and rebound for the rest of the season. I think she's really trying to dial down the intensity (not in her skating but towards him). She seems like she's a bit more relaxed. I do wonder about some kind of nagging hip or leg injury though. Her falls this season looked like they all hit the same side and she's rubbing at it a lot. Love their costuming this year, she SLAYS those dresses!!

Ps, the entire trip was fun, glad I got to see my first skating competition. Def want to attend more. But the absolute highlight of the trip was literally walking straight into Fedor as I was leaving Saturday. I was so shocked that I'm surprised I even managed to ask for a quick picture and tell him how much I enjoyed their skating. He's a doll!!!

Oh his gorgeous body. :saint::smokin: I envy you and they better be in Bratislava because I'm going there mainly for them and IZ. :cheer:

I re-watched both programs this afternoon and think both have great potential. It's also hard to ignore that If Ksenia had stayed upright on either the throw lutz in the short or the triple sal in the free, they would have won the silver. They needed 2.91 points for second and only .43 for third.

It's true they lost a lot of points with the poor quality of some of their elements (the twist, the throw, 3S, sbs spins, even the 3+3+2 combo she double footed). I'm not complaining about a medal at all. It's just that I think it's a shame to give these two low marks, like 7s but even low 8s, for their superb SS and 7s for the performance and CH.

I rewatched their programs with British Eurosport and I fully agree with them about both their programs. Although I do love more their LP I think the SP it's beautiful too and when skated clean it's gonna be a very cool program. There is one criticism I have towards Fedor. I think he should do a bit more in terms of body movements. Ksenia is using her whole body and she's gorgeous in that but Fedor still looks a bit contrived.
They still have a lot of work to do but it's worth it because they really do have beautiful programs. I love Ksenia's look and costumes. :swoon:

Trying to contain my envy... :wuzrobbed

I was there too and saw their practices. I don't agree with your assessment at all.

They have so much pressure on them this season - the field in Russia is stacked with V/T back now, plus there are S/H, D/R, and other strong pairs to worry about. The last season ended badly, the new one started badly. Of course they are feeling the stress, and they are not robots who are going to skate around with fake smiles. Also, their relationship is like brother and sister. I like to have my space and wouldn't want to be joined at the hip with my brother, and vice versa, but it doesn't mean we hate each other. S/K train together every day, and have for years. Why do they need to constantly be next to each other and looking into the other one's eyes? They know each other very well by now.

I think their FS is beautiful and a bit avant-garde, but I can understand it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. There are plenty of programs I found sleepy and boring at SA, but S/K's was mesmerizing to me. I hope we will see it skated clean soon.

So much can change over the course of the season...if they miss the GPF, perhaps it will be for the best, since I would rather see them well-prepared for Russian nationals.

I really loved both their programs. They're so hard on themselves when they don't perform well. They'll have an uphill battle getting into the GPF but I think just landing the 3T+3T+2T is good for now.

Well, if they're gonna be in Boston, I may just have to make another trip east to see them. I wish I wasn't rushing out to catch my ride to the airport, otherwise I probably would stuck around to enjoy the eye candy longer. But we had so much fun!

I love their timing on the jumps. :swoon:Didn't she double foot the second 3? He it seems she didn't but I thought she did while watching the video.

are we talking about Skate America? because, seeing it live there, I also thought Ksenia two-footed the second 3T. That's how it looked to me. But this didn't seem to be reflected in the score sheet. One judge gave them a -2 on the element, but that was the only deduction.

Yes SA. It was not easy too but I thought she double footed the 2nd 3T. From the gif I'm not so sure but I think so...
