Stolbova and Klimov Thread

Even though I've taken a liking to the Korean Meagan, and I really don't like this years programs quite frankly, I still want S/K to nail it and win worlds this year. :bloc:(not much faith in Yuko/Alex's luck, but I would love to be wrong)

She should bring the whip to practice on a regular basis and consider investing in a vocally alerted shock collar. :angryfire

Sure. His whip can be made out of candy. It has a matching uniform but sadly the weather doesn't call for it. ;)

Well Christ on a cracker. :fragile:

I just want to sit in bed and eat ice cream during the Worlds pairs competition while watching a thrilling Kung Fu movie.

Didn't really want to post this in the S/K bashingfest withdrawal thread, but here's my scary take on what's happening. They went back to practice after Europeans. I still think Ksenia has some slight injury or another and pushing through that is making her even less patient than usual. Mozer figured trying to get to Worlds under those circumstances could ruin the partnership, to the point where they might even break up. So taking things easy for next season and starting early would lead to more relaxed training sessions and a better chance of them making it to the next Olympics as a team -without killing each other :p.

Did she have an injury at the Euros? I don't recall reading about it. If it was due to an injury to either one, they would have mentioned it, right?

A more likely scenario would be Ksenia is still mad with Fedor for his mistake (tripping) at the Euros and they may be having difficulty training without fighting. May be Mozer just wants things to cool down so they can train more effectively. If they skip worlds, it could allow them a month (and may be even a vacation later) to cool down, so they can come back like 'normal' persons and start training this summer.

We are all grasping at straws though. :)

Nothing too visible at Euros, but her thigh/groin is obviously bothering her after the Nationals LP. I think they went with the fan-approved party line after this and talked about having a cold, but she's clearly grabbing at her upper thigh and limping at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGmGLFt4NJU#t=5m05s

Wish I could put talk of a potential split under grasping at straws, but that's more like coming to terms with reality. If it can be avoided, am all for skipping Worlds. Their ranking is high enough and they already have a silver from last year.

I agree. Between skipping worlds and splitting up as a pair I pick skipping worlds.

If that's the case, and it could very well be because it does make sense, I can see why they wouldn't/couldn't talk about it. I believe Mozer is a wise woman and manager, so she knows better. Still, why not come up with a fake injury, or illness? I mean anything that would not look bad from a PR point of view? Maybe because they do intend to partecipate in shows, therefore they couldn't use that excuse?

Excellent question. Much as I like Mozer as a coach and think she's done a very good job managing her teams, the whole statement about the withdrawal was weird -and not just because of google translate :p. Maybe they never realized this would reach such a wide audience right away, but it could have been handled a lot better.

Do you mean to say: "If it can't be avoided, ..."

In any case, wow, what a luxury! A surprise Olympic silver, team Olympic gold, and Worlds silver last season for a remarkably fit and reborn Stol/Klim. So, with considerable angst, this season they can apparently afford to skip Worlds, while a bevy of other pairs teams would jump at the opportunity to even experience one Worlds. But, depending upon the competitive makeup of teams and opportunities in the wannabes' countries, they must battle the odds of ever making it to Worlds.

The Russians have a stellar tradition in pairs and dance, and have in more recent years been building rep and tradition in singles disciplines. Although I appreciate and enjoy a number of Russian pairs teams and quite a few Russian singles skaters, the uber complicated mix of entitlement and desperation to be on top of the podium, in particular at every Olympics, is just so full of serial drama. :drama: Where's the miniseries already!? :wall:

I was talking about avoiding a potential split that the stress of training for Worlds could lead to. I definitely did not mean to say the split could *not* be avoided, but could be by skipping Worlds. Am taking the lalala -fingers in my ears, hearing no evil- approach to this and hoping things get sorted out for next season.

Why am I getting a "torn labrum" feeling here, seeing her press her hip right above the landing leg? NOTE: **total, utter speculation** but it IS unfortunately more and more common . . .

If you watch the actual skating, you may understand why her hip hurt. And it doesn't necessarily have anything in common with torn labrum.

just came here to lend some support to SK:cheer2:hopefully they can take time, rest, reflect on their mistakes, regroup & be more amazin than ever next season:40beers:
