Remember when we had a new thread each week for So You Think You Can Dance? With the 18 and over contestants back, I figured we could get a thread going for the summer.

Definitely a stream lined process this year with auditions in only two cities and "academy" somewhere in Los Angeles.

Lex Ishimoto certainly seems to be the front runner. Well deserved. So is Logan Hernandez.

I'm already over Jenna saying Kiki Nyemchek is the best male ballroom dancer to ever audition. Don't know whether that was her idea or producer manipulation, but he isn't even close to the talent displayed by Pasha Kovalev, Ryan Di Lello or Dmitri Chaplin.

Allison Holker is not coming across well in pandering for team members.

I did not watch last season as I did not want to deal with kid drama so I was happy we returned to the adults but not loving this format - I was not really a fan when they first started bringing in all-stars and now they are taking over more and more of the show. Not exactly sure how the team concept will be used but I'm guessing I will be negative about that too, lol. I'm not sure I will stick with the show much longer at this rate.

This week was an almost complete waste of time except for the brief solo glimpses. We didn't get enough of a view of the hip hop to make it worth while. Way too much time spent of fawning over the contestants immediately chosen by all-stars. Imo, they should have to go through more genres before anyone is selected. This really gave hip-hoppers an unfair chance to fill in available spaces - they auditioned in their genre, soloed for the all-stars in their genre, then learned a new hip-hop routine to show the all-stars. 3 chances to shine in their specialty. Duh!

I did not watch last summer. A couple of times I put it on for a few minutes and that was it. Not interested in a kids' competition.

Last night's show was highly edited. I don't mind the all-stars choosing the top 10, but the team thing seemed like the popular kids forming cliques. Hopefully, it gets good when the lives shows start.

I watched the auditions and thought that the talent was not as high level in the LA auditions. Like the network waited too long to renew the show so they lost a lot of talent to other shows and tours. The judges were raving over people who would have been sent to choreography or even home in prior seasons. I did see some good dancers in the NY auditions.

They only did auditions in NY and LA. If you don't live in or near those places, they're very expensive get to for an audition. Gone are all those people who tried out in places like Chicago, Atlanta and Salt Lake City. I saw people get through who underwhelmed me. I guess it's not so bad that there is only a top 10. Still, glad to see the grown ups back and happy to see meaningful work for the all-stars.

I'll ask the mods to merge this with the other thread.
