Singapore news article article about YU Shuran (Jessica):
Excerpt:
“Skating is a very enjoyable thing and yes, it’s a very difficult sport and it requires sacrifice and hard work. But that should always be rewarding and not in a way that’s done to make the athlete feel miserable.”
Urging national governing bodies around the world to re-evaluate their policies and question if they are doing enough to prevent and treat abuse cases, she added: “There needs to be education done for coaches around the world about how abuse just isn’t a valid method.
“There has to be a sentiment, where we want to protect the child at all costs and I say child very deliberately because so often we’re not treated as children, when we are. We’re treated as robots and machines that are produced to get results, and then discarded after we’re done getting results.
“People absolutely have to start seeing athletes as children and even if they’re legally adults, they’re people, not robots.”

Follow-up article by AFP re. Jessica Shuran Yu:
Sport Singapore said it was "dismayed to learn of Jessica's plight in her sporting journey overseas" and was supporting Yu alongside representatives from the Singapore Ice Skating Association.

Also:
“The well-being of all athletes is paramount to the legitimacy of sport,” the national sports agency spokesperson said. “[Yu] has reached out to Sisa’s safeguarding officer and the Safe Sport Taskforce, and we are supporting her as necessary.”
“Safe sport policies and measures continue to be enhanced for sport in Singapore. To date, nearly 100 safeguarding officers have been trained and a number of safe sport engagements for the sporting community on how we may collectively safeguard sport have been staged,” a Sport Singapore spokesperson told The Straits Times separately.
“All efforts are taken to ensure everyone in the fraternity – athletes, coaches and officials, understand how crucial safe sport is and are aware of the due reporting process for athletes to either a Safeguarding Officer or directly to the Safe Sport Taskforce.
“These efforts must continue unabated. Our National Sports Associations do keep our overseas-based athletes informed and updated on the support channels in place for them. Overseas-based athletes can reach out to the safeguarding officers in their [Associations] should they require advice and support.”
