Savchenko/Massot Fan Thread

Trying to find the medal ceremony for you @cocotaffy. Be back soon :)
Thank you so much. Is it normal everytime I watch this routine and the tiger ceremony with Bruno lifting Aljona like the queen she is, I'm bawling. I've loved them from the start for their partnership but I didn't how much I wanted them to win and with the manner at that, timeless program at the perfect moment.

I am with you 100%!!! I can't get enough of this moment and this podium too! The epitome of the Olympic dream!

Qing Pang & Jian Tong were commentators on CCTV

On Savchenko/Massot's skate Tong said:" Now I have complex feelings. I surely hope Chinese skaters win, but I am proud of what they accomplished today, and impressed by Savchenko's determination. She's been chasing the dream for years, which made her too nervous to deliver her best in Vancouver and Sophi. But I really feel happy for what she's done today. It was too perfect."

Jian Tong on Aljona:"I am happy, excited and emotional for the performance. This is the power of belief, this is the power of persistence. I'm a bit choked up right now. It was not easy for her but they gave it all. "

It's so lovely to see how happy other skaters (past and present) are for them. Aljona has made such an impact in figure skating, and Bruno was able to rise to the challenge of skating with her and mastering German at the same time. This is the most fairytale result I've seen since Sarah Meier won Euros.

Random thought but has anybody else noticed that their costumes matched the rink colours? (purple is also my favourite colour ;) ) Coincidence?

Usually I'm the type of person who'd be like "oh I don't really believe in destiny and stuff, it's just random events and occurrences and coincidences, filtered through our brains and human cognition that are shaped by our evolutionary history, resulting in human tendency for overactive pattern recognition hard-wired in our brains" etc. but in this case, I'm all "no it wasn't a coincidence, it was DESTINY and FATE and DIVINE... uh... whatstheword... not intervention, the other one..."

Their costumes reminded me of Torville and Dean from Bolero. Overall, it felt like the whole program had a similar vibe, with the difference being that it's obviously pairs, not ice dance. I think Christopher Dean being the choreographer, contributed to it. Plus the sheer perfection of the performance and execution. It should go down in history, just like Bolero did. As soon as you watch it, you know this is an Olympic gold medal skate.

You guys wanted to see some backstage reaction, this fan shot a nice little video where I think we see her husband coming to jump into her arm and his wife jumping in his arms. Lots of smooching, people not able to handle PDA please refrain :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrklVnNHaWg&t
She can't stop crying and Meagan Duhamel is right there to hug her when needed. She's been fantastic, such a good sport.

Has there ever been a more unanimously popular result in Olympic history?! I don't think there is a single athlete (or fan) of any nationality who wasn't happy for Aliona and Bruno last night

I was thinking that while surfing the net and I don’t think there’s been a more popular one. Every tweet and Facebook post I’ve read has been positive and their performance affected even less than casual fans. T&D’s Bolero maybe was close but there was no social media then.

My prediction ..... just being realistic here .... is that their performance will remain the most popular. With men’s, dance and ladies coming up..hmmmm....I’d say let’s enjoy the peace, love and solidarity of this moment. :) Shits’s gonna happen somewhere.
