RIP Terry Wogan

I'm :wuzrobbedI posted in the Eurovision Thread about it as I didn't think that many people here would know him. This death has really hit me the most of all the celeb deaths this month. He was a constant in my childhood, made me obsess about Eurovision and just seemed an amazingly nice guy. I actually cried watching tributes.

Dear 2016,

Stop taking the good guys.

Signed

Us.

I agree this one is particularly tough. :( He was such a mainstay of my childhood. I always watched Wogan, Blankety Blank, Children in Need and of course Eurovision. So sad and such a loss. Only when they are gone and we look back do we often realise how great they were. RIP Sir Terry :(

Blankety Blank was amazing  I always looked forward to it. Half the jokes probably flew over my head at the time but :D

Thankyou Ireland for giving us Brits a National Treasure (kind of ironic!!).

I was so very sad to hear this news on the radio this morning. He's been a welcome and much loved part of my life for more than 30 years both on the radio and on TV. Eurovision snark was never the same for me after he left and I loved the old Blankety Blank and his increasingly tired rambling on Children in Need :) But my favourite of all was listening to his radio show every morning, from his 9am slot on BBCRadio1 then to Radio2 - especially his + his posse's rendition of the naughty Janet and John stories which were broadcast on his BBC2 radio morning show when I was driving my children to school. They never understood the naughtiness of the stories but I laughed until I cried.

Sir Terry Wogan, such a sad loss to the nation. Sad tears for you this morning. I shall miss you so much.

ETA Just read SHARPIE's post - I agree, Terry Wogan is and was a national treasure in every sense of the word

It's a sad fact of aging when your childhood (who transcended into adulthood) icons pass away.

I remember thinking my mother was nuts when I was 8 and she was blubbing over John Lennon being shot as she didn't know him. I get it now. :fragile:

My daughter knows I'm a big fan of Terry's and she's just rung to let me know - while we were chatting I remembered watching him with my mum when I was very young when he presented Come Dancing donkey's years ago. Thinking about it, I'll revise my previous post to say he's been a part of my life for far longer than I'd though - more like nearly 50 years

I was listening to the Radio in the car around lunchtime - Richard Madeley was playing Terry's list of his favourite songs and said the movie Terry had loved most of all was High Society - the final song he played was Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly singing True Love which already had me :fragile: when at the end, there was a silence and Richard just said 'Rest in peace Terry. Rest in peace' and he started to cry on air. Me blubbing along in the car wasn't a good look :shuffle:

My favourite tribute of the day was on this evening's News:

'He was the lilting Irish soundtrack to our lives'

How true

I have just found out that the wonderful actor Frank Finlay died yesterday :( My abiding memory of him was as Pru's father in the series Bouquet of Barbed Wire.

As a HUGE fan of the legendary George Best who was once the most beautiful and most skilful soccer player to ever step onto a pitch - the first soccer superstar, the "Fifth Beatle" as they called him, the ultimate playboy of the 60's and 70's, who sadly self-destructed through alcoholism... I mostly remember Terry Wogan for this moment... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRAq-J22pl8

:scream:

To think that he had once looked like that... http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/art... Susan George in Palma Nova Majorca June 1969
