Retrospective on Rudy Galindo

Happy to hear Rudy is happy working s a coach. Like Hersh I also followed his career with all the ups and downs. He was always a great entertainer.

Loved this article on Rudy. I will never forget his epic win in men's singles at the US Nats. It stands out as one of the highlights in thousands of great performances I've seen over so many years of watching skating. It was quite simply "a special moment in time." Rudy has successfully fought through so many personal obstacles; and, by being so caring and kind, has helped so many others along the way. Simply put: He's a good man. ❤

For all the complaints at FSU about Phil Hersh, he can still identify what puts the heart and soul in figure skating just like Rudy (No longer Rudi? My age is showing ) His article covers so many things that make a great skating story, from the tenacity to overcome dire circumstances and disappointments to regrets and redemption. A great read about purity and excellence in coaching compared to the stories we often face about manipulative coaches gaming the system and taking advantage of their young charges.

That was a very nice article. Glad Rudy is enjoying his coaching. Love how he is teaching Kristi's daughter.

Therein lies my frustration with Hersh. he's clearly capable of writing with reasoned sensitivity and consideration.

At other times, his inflated ego gets the better of him.

Good article, though.

Very cute! ... And the skating skills are there!

ITA, Rudy is a great person. Many a shiny attribute. Disciplined, kind, caring, a great sense of humor... just the tip of the iceberg. Rudy is deserving of being placed in the category of what defines quality coaching material and mentoring that a skater desires to have throughout their competitive career. He’s found his niche in life, post-skating. A blessing to his skaters and quite nice for the rest of us.

Wonderful article and it's nice to see Rudy's accomplishments celebrated. He's added a lot to skating history and that moment at the 96 championships is one of the things that keeps skating fans devoted to the sport. I'm always happy when I see an athlete I've admired transition to a happy post-competition career. It's often not an easy transition and may take some time, but I'm glad to see Rudy in a good place.
