R.I.P. Nichelle Nichols aka Lt Uhura in StarTrek

I hope her last months were worry free and that she felt well taken care of, even if they were still litigating her conservatorship in January.

RIP dear lady.
I saw the first broadcast episode of ST:TOS in September 1966, and immediately noticed Ms. Nichols playing Communications Officer Uhura. Hers was the character which most intrigued me, particularly during the first season when she was given several scenes to establish her intelligence, humor, professionalism and musical talents.

She played a key role in the classic "The Trouble with Tribbles" episode, when she noticed (and received for free from Cyrano Jones, who was marketing them) a tribble - and from there the tribble (I mean trouble) started.

Being a trailblazer in entertainment and society, encouraged by no less a person than Dr. King and actively pushing (and later greatly enabling) NASA to broaden the scope of those to be involved in space exploration are accomplishments that were rarely achieved in our society during the 60's, 70's and 80's. This woman was of tremendous importance in changing our view of what was possible to pursue and accomplish for those other than white males.

We are all better for her being among us and helping to show the way. Rest and shine in the stars, dear Grace Dell (Nichelle) Nichols.
