Ilia struggling with 4Lo and 4F. Left practice a few min early and was slightly limping as he walked backstage. I hope there isn't an injury. I think he said in a recent interview that he was breaking in new boots.

From the arena: Ilia's jumps in the warm-up just concluded were very, very strange--many approaches that looked as if they were to be quads but turned out to be triples with a step out (as opposed to obvious, warm-up triples cleanly landed). I've never seen a skater do that over and over, intentionally. Sometimes it seemed he might be getting lost in the air, but that seems unlikely. Maybe a problem with the landing ankle? I didn't have my eyes on him the entire time, but I didn't see a quad--yet he was doing a good bit of jumping.

Duct tape would likely be used to strengthen boots that are broken-down (Alysa did that with old boots at Lombardia) so maybe the new boots have issues. I hope his team can get it resolved ASAP.

Yes, that was a fluff piece that was probably filmed at Champs Camp (it's the SCOB rink). It's been shown during ice cuts at GP and Sectional events all season.

Someone in my section saw Ilia fall--maybe on nothing--near the boards, during the practice. I'm now thinking he may have caught his blade.

I was looking forward to seeing Ilia, but if he couldn't land a quad after that fall, I'd rather he withdraw and save the ankle for Milan. He's not the type to give in easily, though.

If Ilia drops, I'm afraid the remaining top contenders--perhaps with the exception of Jason--will be nervier than usual with a National Championship on the line.
