Pope Francis has passed away

Oh my. I went to a funeral viewing where the family was posing for photos with the body in the open casket. We were a bit shocked until we learned it was traditional in Singapore, where they were from. They think of death just like birth- something to celebrate and to be commemorated.
Victorians would dress the deceased and take portrait photos with the family members.

Taking photos of dead bodies in the coffin is an old Italian tradition, too.

Taking a selfie with a dead body of a famous person is another story, though. Tacky and tawdry, and not comparable with the examples others have shared.
