I'm not in favor of banning what people can post generally, but I support the idea of a ban of X links at this time because there is an active (if probably totally ineffective) boycott due to reasons discussed in PI.

Otherwise people should judge for themselves what content to post what sites to link to etc.
And those reasons are lies

If that's the reason it should be banned everywhere on FSU. I had read some didn't want it to be banned elsewhere (other than PI) because skaters still post on X and it's a good source for their stuff.

I don't know how X and banning would work. I do not use X nor have I ever had an X account. So I'm clueless
This is me in a way. When Twitter first came out which was several years ago, I got an account. I wanted to keep up with news coming from figure skaters.

Two days later, I deleted my account. An extremely deranged person sent me an email to inform me that she noticed I got a Twitter account. I decided to delete it because I didn't want that deranged person following or stalking me.

I never got another account because of the crazies out there that do have those accounts.

Very few skaters (if any) posting on X anymore.

Anecdotally, a senior medalist from 2025 U.S. Nationals posted on X today, and shared additional thoughts that I did not see on the person's Instagram account. And another skater on Team USA does the same type of thing quite frequently -- using X to post additional content that is not on the person's Instagram account.

I totally get why X is controversial. Just sayin' that the number of skaters on X is not zero.

I only post (and re-post) figure skating content on my X account and have embedded several skater photos I took at Wichita Nationals (no clicks needed to view them, AFAIK, unlike for video clips) in various threads here, which some seemed to enjoy.

It seems to me to be against the spirit of FSU to implement a ban on posting figure skating related links to just one social media site for political reasons, but that's not for me to decide.

What does a ban mean to all of you? Does it mean that you expect that people are going to be officially blocked from posting links from X? Does it mean that people should voluntarily abstain from posting links from X? If it's the latter, does this mean that people will be reporting posts that include links from X and expecting the admins to delete them, or snarking at people who post links from X in threads?

If what you mean is a voluntary boycott, do you want an official announcement of this on the board...or what?

I'm not clear on what "ban" means in this context.

That is what happened on Reddit and it's what I suggest could happen here, pending the mod team's decision.

Either way, I won't be posting twitter links anymore.

Since it's been presented as copying what other places are doing, then wouldn't it means you are stopped from posting links to Xitter? That was my assumption when thinking about how to vote.

If the OP meant something different, they need to say so.

The OP just said what he meant. But the poll question is rather undefined, so I am not sure that's what everyone else is thinking.

FSU is not like other skating forums and I hope it will stay that way.
.
Either way, I won't be posting twitter links anymore.
So why can't we all have that choice? Why should what happens in the PI forum affect the figure skating part of FSU which is the primary purpose of its existence?

I'm not sure I think Nazi salutes should be counted as just politics.

Should we ban all links to TikTok too? Why stop at Twitter/X?
I never saw links to tiktok. Certainly there can not be many. whataboutism is always something I find a bit annoying anyway.
Eg Should one not be against Russia‘s war against Ukraine because the US started wars as well etc- long slide of arguments that never helped anyone.

Fix the problems one by one how they arise. A Hitler salute is really not something I want to even discuss if it is in any form acceptable or not.

So I am for a technical solution- link to twitter is no link but people would have to actually copy and paste the link.

Is TikTok promoting neo-nazi and white supremicist content into everyone's timelines? Are they boosting propaganda posts by literal fascists who are (again, literally) calling for the extermination of groups of people? Visiting a twitter link means winding up in a website surrounded by racist, antisemitic, mysogynistic, violent content. Are links to literal neo-nazi sites ok to post here? Links to terrorgram platforms and white nationalist message boards? If not, why?

@Prancer points out the major problems I see.

First it was suggested to apply across the Board, which means hundred or more reports to admins who have regular lives and families in addition to FSU

Second if it was PI only - PI is not moderated. All the posts being reported would likely annoy the admins because it is to be unmoderated. Which would, if I was board owner, cause me to shut PI down completely as she has mentioned several times recently.

Admins simply in my estimation have entirely too much to do as it is.

We had the word covid banned for a while. It was a technical solution (reason behind it was loss in advertising)- if it was implemented of course it needs to be a technical solution again.
I would gladly chip in for the costs.

Whatever works for the fsu mods.

It seems to be fluid. ;)

I said it above, I don't open x links and I move on. To me, that's the simplest solution.

It is not whataboutism. I am deeply concerned about the influence that TikTok has on the US and our people.

You do realize that TikTok is owned by the Chinese government. The same government that has committed genocide (among other things) against its own people. I don’t find that to be ok.
