Fs reddit and multiple others banned twitter links after Musk's salute. I call for a vote here if we want to do something similar. It's a nice stand to take, even if this is a small forum.
With permission from SHARPIE, I am starting this poll.

Mind you that banning a twitter link does not mean there's no way you cannot post a screenshot, or otherwise cannot mirror a twitter link.

A mirror exists here: https://xcancel.com/

Tweets can also be archived here: https://archive.ph/

I'm fine with that interpretation on PI. I am less sure about the rest of the website where skating news still might need to be posted from twitter, but ultimately it's upto the mods. I'd be fine with a full blanket ban.

If that's the reason it should be banned everywhere on FSU. I had read some didn't want it to be banned elsewhere (other than PI) because skaters still post on X and it's a good source for their stuff.

I don't know how X and banning would work. I do not use X nor have I ever had an X account. So I'm clueless

It's because of Elon Musk throwing Nazi salutes at the inauguration. It inspired a number of Reddit pages to ban Twitter/X links, and so the idea came up here as well.
This is not true and must not be used to ban X

Would the "ban" be for all of FSU? I still have Xitter for cat content and FS content. Will Jackie Wong posting on X be banned?
Will content by Rumble (the right wing's favorite) be banned? How about bluesky?

This seems like a bad idea for FSU.

Its not the content that would be banned, just direct links.

People can still choose to go to X themselves and they can post here what they find but the idea is to not direct traffic to the site.

If you need me to explain why, please ask in PI.

I vote for banning rumble too, FWIW. A far right cesspit like that should be banned from everywhere.

Difference I guess is that I'd never even heard of it before yesterday, and probably would not click on a link for video sharing that I don't recognise. Twitter is much more well known, and Musk is much more influential.

I don't want to see this turned into something other than a question of joining a specific boycott of one platform for very specific reasons.

Otherwise it would open a can of worms which would not be constructive.

Which is why I think it’s an uncomfortable idea. People can choose not to open the link in protest - it’s the opening that causes the traffic, right? Not the link itself.

After consideration, I voted no, though I do support a voluntary boycott. I already boycott Twitter, for other reasons.

I agree with Sparks and purpleskates that this opens up too many cans of worms.

I don’t belong to X anymore and can’t read links, but despite Musk displaying his true colors, I wouldn’t ban it.

Exactly the same for me (although I’d spell colours differently) ;)

I deleted my account and don’t think I can view X now, but I think some posters will miss being able to link to skating tweets. I think that person is disgusting though so I totally understand.

There are other sources for the news posted on x. No one has to read it, no one has to join it, no one needs to click on it. But to me, it's like shutting down knowing about the garbage out there. We should be aware of the garbage to combat the evil.

In no way am I supporting a Nazi racist piece of garbage. But I'm certain some people won't see it that way wat

If, as an example, someone wishes to post the NYT link embedded in a twitter post (or some other news link), I find there is no reason the NYT link itself can't be pulled up and posted on the thread.

Apart from the fanwars I used to pull my hair out over, I mostly followed twitter for some news links I could potentially miss being summed up in twitter threads, and some other analysis. I think it's been not worth it since the election results, and it's not something that I ever visit unless I find out something important is happening (usually vile, as has been the case more and more).

A lot of people are uncomfortable seeing links to a website owned by an anti-Semite who thinks Nazi salutes are funny.

Whatever the decision I am going to respect my fellow FSUers and boycott X. I will not be posting links to the site going forward.
There was no nazi salute that is a lie

I'm not in favor of banning what people can post generally, but I support the idea of a ban of X links at this time because there is an active (if probably totally ineffective) boycott due to reasons discussed in PI.

Otherwise people should judge for themselves what content to post what sites to link to etc.
