Paul and Islam: "No Matter What"

Lovely!

There's really something special about this program in terms of tapping into a new level of their abilities. I thought so when they first skated the gala program, and I think the same thing about the FD version. They couldn't have made a better choice for a revamped FD. Whatever they've been doing lately, it's working.

No news lately ?

I've had months of upheaval , including house hunting.. I'd been renting in what has become a major redevelopment zone, and will be moving right after World's. I imagine I'll be sitting here amid boxes with only the TV unpacked.. :D

I am back from 6 weeks away at the other end of the world.....missed a number of snow storms and will be comfortably watching worlds at home. I haven't seen any recent videos or Nats videos so am prepared to be suitably impressed!

Oh, the speed! :D Goregous flow, too. They just float through it.

Good for them. That program has come along amazingly well in the short time they've had it. For a second there I'd forgotten they ever had a different FD.

Always undermarked though....I wonder when they will get some respect from the judges....hopefully SOON!!!!

Absolutely undermarked, they were smooth, confident with equally great footwork from both of them.

They almost always are :(. This is such a step in the right direction, though. They scored 7 points higher here than at worlds last year, and about 9 points higher than they were during the grand prix. They looked so incredibly confident, and confidence builds scores. Its going to take time, but if they keep moving up like this and improving their skating, they'll eventually get rewarded. It's already starting to happen.

And yes, Pratfall, we're all so very happy after that SD!

What happened this time?....They are better than that :(

Bad judging and politics happened. They skated really well. Alex wobbled on the end of the catchfoot twizzle and came out of it a bit unattractively, but she kept her foot up so it wasn't a big deal. Other than that, they were lovely.

In news outside of the placement disgrace for a beautiful performance, Mitch took a little time in Shanghai to help out this reporter for the Star: It's the relationship, not the romance, that's important for pairs and ice dancers

It may not be surprising that romance rumours fly, considering the long hours competitive skaters spend at the rink and on the road, sharing the same goals and relying on one another for success. The fact that their hands are constantly touching bodies can’t hurt either.

“You’re going to spend long periods of times (together) with a high level of focus,” Leigh said. “It’d be a piece of cake for it to go to that next step.”

For ice dancers Mitchell Islam and Alexandra Paul, that next step came naturally.

“Two people on a skating team know one another so deeply and intimately that you're either sure you love them — or you're sure you don't,” Islam said in an email to the Star from Shanghai, where the partners are competing.

Islam and Paul began skating together in 2009, and they started dating two years later. Islam, 25, said he wasn’t prepared to deny his feelings for his partner just because they worked together.

For those who would like to see them I understand that they will be at the Margaret Garrison event this year. Nam, Roman, Gaby ! MI and PG will also be there. I just bought my tickets today.

I don't know anything about it, but I wouldn't be surprised. One of their greatest problems have been their nerves, but they also have had difficulty with getting levels while training with Krylova and Camerlengo + some problems with program choices, although this last season's original FD was choreographed by Dubreuil. I wonder who would they move to in that case, though. Not to Dubreuil and Lauzon I hope - the more teams there are, the less attention the "second rate" teams will get, and the chances that they will get one of Dubreuil's best ideas and choreos for each program will be less and less. But I can't think of anyone else who they could move to either. I truly hope that they have not decided to retire.

I thought if they were to move they would head to Canton with Massimo Scalli.
