@Moto Guzzi That is why whenever people complain about Tara and Johnny I question if they remember Scott. Sure, I don't like their strange tendency to talk about things unrelated to skating in the middle of a program, but at least they don't grunt and make oddly sexual noises throughout the program and give insight beyond what jump the skater is doing.
Constantly hearing about tired legs at the halfway point just further supports that backloading should not be rewarded. You're legs aren't that tired if all you have done in the first half is spin, spirals, footwork. Jumps after the halfway mark should only be a bonus if you have done at least three jump passes in the first half with one of those in combination.
@Spikefan If you do footwork and stroking correctly (that is deep knee bend, knee action, and deep edges) it is absolutely pain-inducing. Good knee bend in particular can feel like you're doing squats. It's definitely not easy and I hate jumping after doing it. OTOH, many skaters these days have awful knee bend, posture, and edges through their jam-packed step sequences and transitions (edges/turns require deep knee bend if you're trying to maintain or gain speed) so it may not wear them out as much as if they used good skating skills. Note the skaters who backload the most (Zagitova comes to mind) tend to have the worst posture/edge/knee bend of the top ladies. There are exceptions to this, but it's definitely something to watch for.
Heads up: Olympic Channel is featuring a marathon of ladies’ Olympic figure skating finals tomorrow afternoon through the late night, beginning with 2002 Salt Lake @ 2:30pm EST then on to Torino 2006, Vancouver 2010, and Sochi 2014 (which finishes at 11pm EST...at which time the live telecast of US Nationals Ladies SPs begins on NBCSN). Total ladies skating overdose party time! Whee!!!!
Hao Zhang competed at 2002 Olympics in SLC?! Watching Zhangs 2002 LP right now on Olympic Channel. They were practicing quad twists?! OMG. Can't believe he's around in 2018 and will likely continue to 2022!!
