Olympic Channel Figure Skating Galore

Wow, this takes me back. Sasha's skate just about wrecked me -- I was relieved but shocked that she still ended up with a medal!

I said it back in 2006 and I will say it again Fumie wuz robbed.

But now that I'm much more familiar with CoP 10 years later, it's obvious that Sasha should've won silver. Fumie's 2 flip was very costly. Doubling gets you less points than a fall on a triple. Fumie also had lower level spins and spirals with low GoE. Her PCS should be much lower than Sasha also.

I remember thinking back in 2006 that Fumie wuzrobbed, but now it all makes sense.

Seeing this again reminds me that the whole deal about Sasha had already changed out of her costume and was heading out of the arena after she skated was so stupid. She was in 1st place with 4 skaters to go, all of who were behind her in the standings (almost 5 points ahead of Fumie and 7 ahead of Kimmie), and both of them were weaker skaters than her and would likely both need to have the skate of their lives to knock her off that podium. Even before the last 4 skated she still had a clear shot of at least Bronze before anyone else skated.

I'm loving all of this coverage! :cheer2:

Kawaguchi/Smirnov just skated. I'd forgotten how badly they bombed.
Me too! It's been awesome! I've been watching every night! I wish we had this channel a long time ago. For those of you that can't get it or don't have it with your Cable provider, etc., please consider DirecTV. I guarantee you they will give you a really good deal, and the package you would need is the EXTRA package.

Even if you already have DirecTV, call and ask them if they have any offers or discounts available. They will look to see. In my case, I didn't even have to ask them to look. I was trying to find out if there was any way to add the Olympic Channel to the package I already had which was the Preferred Extra package.

The service rep I talked to told me to hold on a minute because she wanted to look into some things. About a couple of minutes later, she told me they were going to give me the Ultimate Package which included all the STARZ Encore channels, several sports channels including Olympic channel with a 45 dollar monthly credit/discount for a year. They also gave me a 20 dollar monthly discount for a year. I already had a 10 dollar monthly credit for bundling and a 7 dollar monthly discount on my HD receiver. Altogether, I have 82 dollars in credits.

The service rep also told me to call back before the credits expire at the end of the year, and they would see what other offers and discounts I had. It never hurts to call, and they are really willing to give you these discounts because they want to keep your business.

It's really worth checking into for those of you that can't get the Olympic Channel.

Screw cable, I quit cable two years ago, best decision I made. Get internet, Sling and an HDMI cable and you have all you need.

My issue with cutting the cord is I don't trust my internet connection. It's great for the most part, but it's gone out a couple of times just this month while I've had my Netflix free trial. No fun when you're in the middle of a planned binge. My cable has only gone out a handful of times in the 18 years I've had it. If I was watching a live sports event and the internet went out or started buffering, I would be throwing things through the TV lol.

No doubt that is a real concern. It can also happen in the last minute of a tied game lol. But honestly I can't remember the last time my internet was out and I just got so depressed having to pay for twentysix cooking shows I would never watch just to get the package I needed. So, the trade-off risk feels worth it for me.

WOW, gotta love Lysacek's fire.

As much as people complain about Zags back loading her programs in 2017/18, you can say the same thing about Plush front loading his programs in 2009/10. I'd forgotten how boring the last half of that program was.

I had also forgotten how great Johnny's LP was. Okay so it wasn't as difficult as others, but other than that wonky spin, that was a beautiful skate.

I think a lot of people forgot how awful Plushenko's programs were in 2010. Yeah, sure Even didn't have a quad and his programs weren't exactly inspiring, but he was better than Plushenko. If anything, I think Plushenko should've gotten 3rd. (Also how the heck did he not get more negative GOEs on those jumps?)

His programs were not awful. They were classic plushenko and judge approved previously.
No step outs, no turn outs, no two foots, not one mistake on a landing.
Hard landing? lol. Not negative goe worthy.

This. And was he boring? Oh, no! The "perfect" (his legendary prerotated 3A and a wrong edged 3F weren't punished) Evan was deadly boring! Otherwise he is a nice guy, but not only boring but too tall for a figure skater and he seemed awkward on ice..And we all know the FS scores were OK, but the key of the situation was in the short programs' scores. Evan received 90+ without quad and he is not Jason Brown..

Can't believe I've survived the skating marathon so far. Only a few more days, right? I actually fell asleep during some of the ladies the other night - or last night. It's all a blur. I hope they replay some of these again sometime, just maybe not as a week-long skate-a-thon. One more Carmen or Tosca, and my head is going to explode. Happy New Year in advance!

Yep, being force fed all the war horses doesn't bode well for my tolerance level. By Euros, I'll be screaming at the coaches along the lines of "Don't you know we heard this 20 times during the O marathon?"

I was reminded of the huge difference between a 19 year old boy and a 27 year old man looking at Chan and Brezina. There isn't that much change between a 19 and 27 year old female, but 19 year old males are still boys.

Yes, that's happened with me on several occasions. I have ATT U-verse Internet. On occasion, there have been internet outages in my town that usually last the whole day. When I say on occasion, I mean that it's been known to go out twice in one month or once a month. The majority of the time, it's gone out while it's skating season and I definitely don't wish to rely on just the internet when it comes to skating because I don't want to miss any of it!

I feel sad when they say things like "this is their first Olympics" or "four years from now they will be contenders" and I know that the skater never went to another Olympics. On the other hand I feel like telling some of them after their rough skate - don't worry, you'll have a great next Olympics! I agree that ice dance has really evolved and you can see the difference between then and now - maybe it was everyone adjusting to the new points system... I had also forgotten how the skate to head biellmann position was so overused in ice dance for points back then. Maybe one day we will watch repeats of today's era of skating and say "I forgot how everyone was doing tanos and rippons on every jump back then." haha

I was thinking the exact same thing! And how does Aliona look younger today than she did 15 years ago?!!! And who woulda thunk we'd be seeing her at her 5th Olympics all these years later!

Sinead coaches at my rink now and then, she is still in great shape.

I totally dig this Russian pair with the different classical tunes.

Boo. No penultimate group shown from 2010 Olympics Ladies event!! I wanted to see Laura Lepisto and Akiko Suzuki who had fantastic LPs. Did NBC really chack that entire group? Weird!
