Of interest to fans of the USMNT; Clint Dempsey retired from the sport yesterday. He retires at 35 tied with Landon Donovan as the most prolific goal scorers for the USMNT with 57.

Thanks for the time and efforts, Deuce. You've given us some great memories.

Beckham's (wet) dream may actually happen: www.intermiamicf.com/

The name is appropriate for Miami, as is the language in the crest.

NJL (IMO, the crest needs a palm tree to fully define the location...;)…)

FYI: The CONCACAF Regional Championship and 2019 Woman's World Cup Qualifying Tournament started yesterday in Cary, NC. In Group A: game 1 Panama 3 v 0 TnT; in game 2 USA 6 v 0 Mexico.

Group A plays again on 10/7 - Panama v USA and Mexico v TnT.

Group A finishes on 10/10 with Panama v Mexico and TnT v USA.

Today in Edinberg, TX. Group B: Costa Rica v Cuba and Canada v Jamaica.

Group B plays on 10/8 with Jamaica v Costa Rica and Cuba v Canada.

Group B finishes on 10/11 with Cuba v Jamaica and Costa Rica v Canada.

Semi-Finals will be played in Frisco, TX on 10/14:
2nd place Group A v 1st Place Group B and 1st place Group A v 2nd place Group B.

The last 2 games will also be in Frisco, TX on 10/17. The 3rd place game will be played first with the Championship game after.

All 4 Semi-finalists can go to the 2019 WWC in France. Both Finalists and the 3rd place team automatically qualify. The 4th place team must win a 2 game home and home series v Argentina to advance. Most pick the USA, Canada and Mexico to be the 3 to advance automatically with Costa Rica playing Argentina.

Costa Rica 8 v 0 Cuba - CR led 6-0 at the half and coasted through the 2nd half. They still scored 2 more goals then to complete the slaughter. They will not be able to do that against Canada. They play Costa Rica next. The winner of that game should be the 2nd place team in the group.

Canada 2 v 0 Jamaica - Jamaica is a decent team with excellent team speed. They gave Canada a game. Canada did not play well. Jamaica was part of the problem by pressing every pass and possession whenever Canada controlled the ball. For all of that Canada was just a step slow and inches off on everything they tried. Typically Canada they never stopped trying. That paid off with 2 goals. Those 2 were all they needed. They may have the same problem with CR, but Canada has the players to win that game, too. They will probably slaughter Cuba.

NJL - We will see...:)

Actually I had the 2nd games wrong.

Panama 0 v 5 USA. The USA had 9 (yes, nine) changes from the Mexico game. This group may well be the 2nd best team in the tournament. It would have been much worse if Panama's keeper, 17 year old Yenith Bailey, had not played out of her mind. She had at least 10 saves. Several on 1 on 1 breakaways where she stopped the attacker cold and one play early on where she stopped Carly Lloyd's ( who did score a hat trick eventually ) point blank header, then Carly's shot from the rebound. Remarkable. Without her the score could have been in double figures. Well done, Yenith..:)

With 6 points and an 11 point goal differential the USA has qualified for the semi-final round and should finish 1st.

TnT 1 v 4 Mexico. Mexico is simply the better team. They will play Panama next and the winner should finish 2nd and qualify for the semi-final round. TnT plays the USA. I do not see them winning that game. The great mystery is who will be the USA's starting 11.

Group B plays tomorrow. That should give us an idea of the teams from that group that will advance to the semis.

Jamaica 1 v 0 Costa Rica - A bit of a surprise. Jamaica plays Cuba next and should have no problems winning that game. If they do they will advance to a semi final probably against the USA. Costa Rica plays Canada. Good luck with that.

Cuba 0 v 12 Canada - Canada should win the group after this brutal demolition of Cuba. Yes, the difference between the 2 teams is that great. Congratulations to Cuba for getting this far, but it is painfully obvious they are not ready for prime time. Canada plays a desperate Costa Rica. Canada is too much for them.

The group stage ends on Wednesday for Group A and Thursday for Group B. We will know what the semi-finals will look like then.

Group A Game 3 in the WWC Qualifiers/CONCACAF Women's Championship:

USA 7 v 0 TnT - As expected. The USA used the same starting 11 in this game as they used in Game 1. They win the Group. TnT goes home.

Panama 2 v 0 Mexico - A shocker! A 0-0 1st half featured a late PK for Mexico that Panama's goalkeeper Yenith Bailey saved. That changed the game. Then, in the 2nd minute in the 2nd half Panama scored. Mexico spent the rest of the game on the attack, but a Panama goal in the 85th minute spelled doom for Mexico.

The final Group standings:

USA...9 poins
Panama..6 points
Mexico..3 points
TnT...0 points

The USA and Jamaica advance to the semi-finals. The USA will play the 2nd place team from Group B and Jamaica will play the 1st place team from Group B.

Group B finishes tonight with Canada playing Costa Rica and Jamaica playing Cuba. We will see what happens then to conclude the Group stage.

Group B:

Canada 3 v 1 Costa Rica - Canada wins Group B and will play Panama ( NOT Jamaica as I stated in post #282 ), in the Semi-Finals on Sunday 10/14, and Costa Rica goes home because...….

Jamaica 9 v 0 Cuba - Jamaica took awhile to get into the game, but after they scored their 2nd goal simply took the game away from Cuba. The Jamaican team is taller, faster and simply better than Cuba. They will play the USA Sunday.

The 2 winners Sunday advance to play for the CONCACAF Championship. By winning a Semi-Final they automatically qualify for the 2019 WWC in France - the reason why the USA players are stating that their game vs Jamaica is the most important game that they will play since the Olympics/this year/in years/etc. The 2 teams that lose their Semi-Final play a consolation game before the Final. The winner of that game also qualifies for the WWC. The loser plays a home and home series against Argentina. The winner of that will also advance.

IMvhO, the USA and Canada will advance and meet in the Final. They have both been there before, both have won it before, and both want that berth in the 2019 WWC. They are deeper, more talented and very hungry for a win. They simply are a goal or two - or more - better than their opponents.

Jamaica is my pick for 3rd. Their size and speed are outstanding. The general consensus is that any of the four teams in the mix now can beat Argentina. CONCACAF may have 4 teams in France next year.

NJL - We'll see...;)

Canada 7 v 0 Panama. Canada started slowly, but a 44th minute goal at the end of the 1st half set the tone for the 2nd half where Canada shredded Panama.

USA 6 v 0 Jamaica. The USA did not start slowly. They scored in the 2nd minute and had a 5-0 advantage by halftime. A 2nd half PK for the USA made the final 6-0, but they had many more chances where they either hit a goal post, missed the goal or the Jamaica Keeper was able to stop the shot or disrupt the play to prevent the score from going into double figures.

Wednesday Jamaica will play Panama. The winner qualifies for the 2019 WWC. The loser plays a 2 game, home and home series against Argentina. The winner of that advances to The WWC.

The USA and Canada advanced to the WWC with their wins yesterday. Their game Sunday is to become CONCACAFs Women's Champion. This is important to both teams and should be a very good game.

3rd place game:

Panama 1 v 1 Jamaica after 90 minutes. 2-2 after 120 minutes. Jamaica 4 v 2 in PKs for the win. Jamaica wins the CONCACAF 3rd place medal and, of considerably more importance, advances to the 2019 WWC in France. They are the 1st Caribbean Nation to do so. Panama will play a 2 game series vs Argentina with the winner advancing to the WWC.

Championship Game:

Both teams have qualified for the WWC by advancing to this game.

Canada 0 v 2 USA. The USA scored in the 2nd minute and the 90th minute to win their 6th CONCACAF Championship against the only other team to have won it. Tough, physical game with scoring chances for both teams, but the USA's early game forced Canada to chase the game more than they wanted to and the 90th minute goal sealing the game.

It was the best played game of the tournament between 2 evenly matched teams, but not as exciting as the 3rd place game between 2 more evenly matched teams. A fitting ending to the tournament.

I seriously cannot handle Uli Hoeness any more. He should never have been allowed back after his release from prison. Calling a press conference to denounce the media for unfairly attacking Bayern players and then proceeding to randomly trash Juan Bernat and try to excuse away what he said about Mesut Ozil--what a hypocrite and an embarrassment. The irony is so thick you could just choke and the club is an international laughingstock.

Bayern needs to get rid of him and Rummenigge. The whole board structure is stale at this point and the results on the pitch are showing it. They should have brought Philipp Lahm on board in some capacity but he apparently didn't want to put up with Uli and KHR and is now busy with the DFB and Euro 2024, so too bad for that.

The girls got a huge break by playing Sweden last in the group. As they both should be into the second round when they play. But beating Pia and the Swedes would be sweet revenge

Beating Sweden would be sweet. Unfortunately Peter Gerhardsson is now coaching Sweden so the revenge factor with Pia no longer applies....:)

Forgot about that, but it doesn't change anything, still badly want to beat those Swedish girls
Gerhardsson may not have Pia's understanding of team USA nor her motivation to beat us. That may well be a positive for us. For all of that, I still think it will be more a dog fight than the beautiful game.
