Curious as to whether Shae did the choreo. If it’s Shae then I can see her using more of the remix version since I can’t remember having seen her work with purely classical music. I could be wrong though.

Are we sure though, that it's Shae who choreographed his FS? I mean, it's the most likely I guess, but who knows. He might've been crazy enough to have MFD choreograph it via video chat.

So it seems the remix part is just for the ChSq and the rest is the original, classic music. But somehow I cannot imagine that he's skating to Lacrimosa or even other parts of the Requiem across the whole program? Would be quiet dramatic and also too heavy sounding for his skating style if you ask me.
I also wonder why he chose a piece with such a sombre and 'wailing" mood, and for the Olympics, no less.
ETA: I guess, at least he will be able to wear a black costume with no one questioning his choice of colour... 😅

Maybe they use parts of other pieces by Mozart? Really curious and nervous now to see the whole thing. I don't trust Shae anymore (if it's indeed her) after that horrendous ABBA program for Mariah (both in terms of program composition and music cut).

I don't think it's any more sombre than LoA, which Nathan apparently chose.

I can think of a few reasons to choose Requiem:
1. It's an epic work that's "grand" enough for the Olympics.
2. He's stated in past interviews that he likes Mozart and the movie Amadeus.
3. They want to use the Lacrimosa remix for the ChSq.

Oh that would be quite symbolic indeed. Never pegged Nathan as the type to be this meta with his programs though. 😬

Oh I think LoA had a totally different vibe. Sombre in a certain way, maybe, but much more atmospheric and calm. And the singing was very peaceful sounding.

But I can totally imagine the music building up while Nathan sets up and jumps his quads and the jumps going well with many of the more dramatic parts of the Requiem. In this case the jumps would work really well to enhance the music I think. (She says, without having even seen the finished product 😄)
 
Replace trap with late 90s-early 2000s euro techno and you had half the ice dance programs of the 2000-2006 period. Maybe when he name-dropped Jimmy Ma in that controversial interview, he was leaving us a hint as to what his inspiration is.

No, I don’t think Shae didn’t put much efforts for Maria’s program. Rather, Nathan and Shae is more a collaborative partnership. Nathan mentioned that Shae could get very bold and avant-garde sometimes, which he has to drag her back a little bit. Also, my impression from his talk concerning his Glass program and other interactions between him and Shae is that they would have discussions about music long before the season starts.

Hopefully he would receive some good feedback from champs camp. I am not sure if he would be invited to Japan Open this year, which I do hope so

Ah come on. Mariah’s Experience FS and Hallelujah FS prior to ABBA were both wonderful. She probably just wanted to experiment with something different. And when skaters experiment, good things don’t always happen.

Oh, I wasn’t saying she didn’t have good collaborations with Shae. What I am saying is Shae indeed could get very bold sometimes. Nathan would have some way to get Shae not going in some direction if he really doesn’t feel like doing.

Kurt once said not many skaters could move the way Shae moves. Some of the wacky ideas do work very well if the skater could pull off, like the Junliet program, but it is not always the case, like the ABBA program. I remembered Mariah said it took her lots of work to get the Britany program to work the previous season, with the unprecedented season the skaters had to deal with last year, she might not has that many opportunities to work with her adjusting the program as she liked.

I agree. I can definitely see the Lacrimosa piece for the choreo sequence. It feels like a very Nathan-esque piece of music, especially combined with the original Mozart for contrast.
 
I don't think the problem with Mariah's ABBA program was that Shae went too bold and avantgarde, quite the contrary actually. I thought it was a bland, lazy program (especially considering such music as ABBA!) and then Mariah didn't sell it at all on top of it. Not sure what the problem was, maybe she didn't connect to the music or the kind of dance style, that would've been fitting for this type of music (I did not really buy her Britney performance either, but at least you could tell that she was really into it and making an effort).

Kind of like Nathan didn't seem to 'click' with his Desperados SP, although personally I loved all of his outings in the first half of the past season. And Shae did make sure to not give him choreo that was too 'latin-esque' and the music was fun and energetic as well, so not sure why he didn't enjoy it.

ETA: And no, "fun and energetic" is not code for masculine. 😉😄

Personally I don't think it's really possible to tell how well (or not) Nathan and Shae work together throughout the creative process, since we know so little about it. All I know is that over the past seasons she gave him some excellent moves and choreo which fit and enhanced his skating and movement style perfectly. So it would seem she knows how to utilise his strengths, and this is why so far I've enjoyed all of her work for him (would be interesting to know though, how much of it was actually his own adaptation).

I wonder how his FS will be received by USFS and his fellow skaters. 😄 Although at this point that kind of a program has become his brand and the formula is also totally predictable (I don't mind it, because it works really well and gives his programs a satisfying buildup, and who wouldn't want that for the Olympic season especially).

It would be best for him if JO happened the same way it did last year. Would save him the hassle of travelling this early in the season and we would still get to watch him skate.

I think it’s ok to be predictable, especially in the Olympic season where you really want to make sure you hit.

ETA: Btw, I saw his IG story about Visa. Another sponsor for the Olympic season?
