Music I wish someone would skate to: 2020 Edition :)

I would love somebody to skate to the OST from the Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell TV adaptation. The opening theme, the Horse Sands music, Magic in the Cathedral, The Return of the Raven King, Jonathan Strange's theme, and the Lost-Hope Waltz are all gorgeous and you could make a fantastic otherworldly free skate from them.

Smetana’s “The Moldau” would make a stunning pairs short. I’m picturing it for some reason on Knierim/Frazier. They could do it justice.
It is my favorite too. I heard that a US skater had skated to it. I don’t remember his name right now.

ETA- I found the thread where it was discussed.

Ryan Jahnke skated to it at the 1998 US nationals.

I originally posted this in the "To Sing for the Day" thread. I totally love Ella Fitzgerald, and I would love someone to skate to her version of this song. I believe Bradie, Karen, Starr or even Jason could make this a signature program.

Blue Skies

I think I suggested This Bitter Earth awhile ago. Feels like there is nothing you can suggest that hasn't been done by somebody, so I am sure there is a junior from Belgium who already has it covered, but I would still like to see it again!

Did a search and it looks like Weaver/Poje did a program to it that got a mixed reaction.

Thanks, Frau Muller. You have a good memory. I think the flexibility of tempi in the piano version would make a better dance. I believe it was originally scored as a piano 4- hand piece.

Both of these are probably more short program material:

None But the Lonely Heart by Tchaikovsky

Anne of Green Gables (from the 1980s miniseries)

ETA- also the Finding Neverland soundtrack, although it seems like someone must have skated to this!

A skater looking for something “outside the box” should consider this classic:

La Grange - ZZ Top.

Eta: Elvis or Javi could have pulled this off back in their day — and I could’ve sworn there was a skater who actually used this for a long program (free skate) Hmm, not sure. 🤔
Tonya Harding skated to ZZ top ( although I don't think it was that song).

I’m hoping for a “Queen’s Gambit” program next season. The Main Title, Moscow Invitational 1968, Jolene and Sygrayem are all lovely pieces. Not necessarily a Beth program but that the music is used.

I watched the Soviet film Wings awhile ago and the central motif music-wise is very beautiful. It's probably too short for a program in and of itself, but maybe it could be combined with other music from the film or just other music generally? It's pretty melancholy though so I don't know if it would be too much of a "downer." It's crazy that Shepitko was so young when she died; we really missed out by not seeing more films from her.

My personal favourite is "Love Bites" by Def Leppard. Definitely too long a song, but I can see someone skating to it on a mountain lake.

I just watched a film of the San Francisco Ballet in choreographer Mark Morris’ exuberant Sandpaper Ballet. It’s danced to a dozen or so mid-century pop tunes by Leroy Anderson (of Sleigh Ride & Typewriter Song fame). The catchiest of tunes in the ballet is “Fiddle Faddle” - a lightning-quick combo of jazz, classical & Broadway. Boy, would that make an amazing program for a Jason Brown or other highly-musical skater!
The tune:

Alas, most of the ballet is not on YouTube, so I cannot link to the visuals...but listen to the music & you get the idea.

Jason Brown & Mark Morris, please meet! Or...Keegan Messing?!

I just posted a song by the B-52's in the "What Song Are You Listening To Now" thread. It's from the B-52's Whammy album. Then I realized it could be the theme song for the "Figure Skating Baby News" thread.

Song For A Future Generation
