July 22nd local Chicago article with many photos:
Mirai Nagasu loves figure skating as a competitor and as a coach.
The 2010 and 2018 U.S. Olympian from California made the trip last Thursday to Mount Prospect Ice Arena with former Team USA skater Michael Bramante to provide figure skating lessons through the Mount Prospect Figure Skating Academy.
Nagasu recently retired from competition after a decorated career, highlighted by a bronze medal in the 2018 Olympics in the team competition.
“I think I am just one of those people who really enjoys skating and all aspects of skating,” Nagasu said. “To be able to take my experiences and kind of try to use whatever I have learned to help motivate and progress the younger generation is something that gets me out of bed every morning. You would think that I would, after all these years, not want to be at an ice rink every day, but I still like going to the ice rink. To be able to travel and help kids of all ages and levels is something that I really enjoy. I think inclusivity is something that is very important to me, regardless of the level. The kids love skating and that’s something I share with them and I love coming out to Chicago to do.”

Bumping up Mirai's fan thread 4.5 months later with reports of/links to clips from her recent performances at the SC of Boston's grand opening show this past Saturday (Dec. 4, 2021) and the Bryant Park tree lighting in NYC tonight:
Mirai -and the best show program I've seen in a while:love:. I don't claim to be the most objective when it comes to modern dance inspiration since I love everything about it, but this is so interesting and worth seeing it live if you get a chance. The anti-pwetty pwincess program in a nutshell.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CXFe99kPzPU/
Kate McSwain choreographed this program, I believe.
Mirai Nagasu closed out the show, and I agree that she was one of the highlights!! I wish I knew what her music was--it was alternative rock-like and dramatic, with some spoken dialogue. Mirai skated really well, landing triple Lutz, triple loop, and double Axel. As often is the case, she seemed to have a special connection with the audience, bringing them into this program. Her costume was the opposite of Ashley's: No beading or sequins, just a plain but attractive wrapped-style beige dress over black tights. (My daughter described her as "The one who looked like Rey in Star Wars.") Very effective program, I hope she performs it again on the Stars on Ice tour this spring.
Mirai's music is an Imagine Dragons cover for a video game for @clairecloutier and anyone else wondering
In case anyone wants to just see the skaters in @Sylvia's link above [Bryant Park Tree Lighting show replay video:] https://vimeo.com/647889245
...
53:50 Mirai
...
The amount of leaves that swirled down at the start of Mirai's program was just . No idea how she didn't skate over them, or if she did, how she didn't trip, never mind do 2 triples.
Mirai is in the cast of the SOI mini-tour this month:

Sunday, December 12 Frisco, TX Comerica Center
Wednesday, December 15 Cedar Park, TX H-E-B Center

That seems a really odd choice for her. I thought Big Brother was all about trashy people doing trashy things? Mirai's always seemed the opposite of trashy to me. Not only that but the rest of the cast is made up of known jerks/trashy people that will cause drama by being trashy, rude, or both. Why Mirai, Why?

I agree that it’s a bit odd, but do the celebrities (or should I say “celebrities") who go on Big Brother get paid to be on the show, in addition to getting paid for each week they stay/competing for the grand prize? I think they do. Maybe it was too good of an offer to turn down and Mirai wants to save up for a house or something? I know that she coaches but shows and tours have been so unpredictable the past two years. I’m guessing that she’s going into it with a sense of humor. She dipped her toe into the reality tv thing a bit with the mini season of DWTS she was on, I remember her saying at an event that the producers control the narrative/encourage people what to say on camera (which I think everyone knows re: reality tv now), but she couldn't go into it too much because of contractual obligations. I also remember her saying that some of the comments she received after DWTS were hurtful, but that was also four years ago so I think as long as she goes into it with a thick skin it could be ok.

Agree 100%. I've been a fan of Mirai for 10 yrs, never watched Big Brother, appeared low class and not worth my time. I understand pay for the show can amount to $750,000, though I don't know how that's broken down. Not familiar with most of her competitors on the show other than Lamar Odom. He was an LA Laker, married a Kardashian, (talk about trash), and was further known for infidelity and fathering children. I also recognize a female MMA fighter Meisha Tate.

It appears after going to the Oscars and doing DWTS, Mirai still has a taste for fame and fortune.

I note Mirai did the Ice Desk commentary with Michael Weiss and others at nationals 2019-2021. No ice desk in Nashville, though Polina was doing interviews everywhere. Also, Ashley selected to do broadcast for NBC at Four Continents. Maybe this is a bigger, better???, substitute for lost revenue or exposure not doing skating commentary?

Polina was at nationals doing coverage for NBC Bay Area. She strikes me as very ambitious and has said that doing commentary is a goal of hers. I'm not sure if Mirai has mentioned anything about wanting to do commentary, at least not recently. On Mirai and Polina's instagram show, they said that there was no Ice Desk at nationals this year due to C19 precautions. Mirai said that she specifically made the decision not to attend nationals this year because she did not want to be exposed to C19. I will say that I’m not very familiar with Big Brother, I really don’t get the sense that she’s after “fame and fortune” per se, but maybe I will have a different impression after she’s on the show.

I talked to Polina at Nashville, said she and Mirai were still interested in doing commentary together, but there were administrative problems for Nashville, could be covid or other reasons. She didn't elaborate. I talked to Mirai briefly at Detroit nationals, and she was certainly interested in future commentary/ broadcasting opportunities then. As far as Big Brother, $750K prize money is certainly a big incentive, and it is still a national primetime show, hence my fame and fortune comments. I don't know why else one would agree to be locked up in a house for a couple of months, except to keep your name relevant and collect a few coins in the process.

I don't watch the show any more (I used to) and I'm not defending it... it's mostly trash... but I have friends who still do watch and like it. Some of the people do come off well, as kind, or tough or smart or funny or whatever. It's possible she will do well (competitively) and also be likeable... and gain followers from the show.

Isn't that 99% of the reason people do shows like Big Brother and The Bachelor franchise these days?

This reminds me of how Mirai talked about how she met with a publisher after the Olympics and was told that she didn't have enough of a social media following to do a book. Though who knows these days with people paying for followers. Obviously Adam was going to get to do a book after the Olympics. Mirai's agent at that time even managed to get one for Karen in 2017, though I think that was something more targeted towards kids and used as pre-Olympics marketing.

It's great news to hear that Mirai will be skating with Stars on Ice. She's really kept up her skating skills and overcame her surgery (hip?) issues. I don't watch Big Brother but would to see Mirai.
