:eek: Alcaraz out in straight sets in the 2nd round!?!?!?! Maybe that Olympic loss set him into a mental tailspin. He didn't do great (for him) in the Cincinnati tourney and ended up crushing his racquet in frustration there. And now this unexpected upset. Wow! :fragile:

I watched the first two matches. I wouldn’t say he did poorly, but more like his b- game isn’t enough against a unfamous player who turned out much better than expected

If the unfamous player is playing an average or above average game instead of possibly his best tennis in a while Carlos would have scraped by

It was the same situation last season! After taking Wimbledon, Carlos didn't win another event for the rest of the season! He got to Cincy final dropping a classic to Novak, but after that it was one mondane result after another, & barely got to the SF of the YEC in Nov.! :cautious: :yawn:
 
Djokovic really didn't seem in form this tournament, so I'm less surprised by his exit than I am that of Alcaraz.

Would be nice to see someone new win a Slam, although I guess Sinner is the big favorite now.

This schedule is insane though. Too late for me to stay up to watch Sabalenka.

Pretty sure @AngieNikodinovLove (ANL) wouldn't want to play step mom to Musetti's new baby, so Lorenzo might be safe. 🙏

Medvedev/Sinner match might be final worthy battle (except in the semis round, assuming they will both advance).

Also :cheer: for a good tourney so far for Caroline Wozniacki!

Zheng and Donna delivered a superb match, especially the first two sets with so many clean winners and amazing rallies.
Felt bad for Donna though, but she should be proud of herself for her immense efforts showing on the court.
Zheng is just SO GOOD athletically and technically after winning the gold medal in Paris. With that mentality and confidence level, winning a grand slam title is just a matter of time.

I am looking forward to another R16 match between Muchova and Paolini, could be another banger match!

A lot of players are just burned out! The Olympic medalists all lost early! Novak wasn't espected to do much, but this is the 2nd consecutive Summer where Carlos is winless! It was Pegula's time & Iga's vulnerable on these courts that seem to change speed every year! The place is an embarrassment since it opened in 1978 when the court was fast as glass! Their history is retchet w/ changing from grass to clay in '75, then to HC to catch back up w/ the World! We were woefully inadequate to keep up w/ the clay specialists of the day led by BORG. Vilas, & Orantes! Hard to believe, but they actually went BO3 in '76, almost losing Borg to Jaime Fillol in the 2nd Rd.! Musing back! Sorry! :rolleyes: :cautious::scream::40beers:
