Was there any doubt? I know Novak was getting over that Meniscus surgery on his knee, but he's looked sharp from the beginning! Of course it helped his early round opponents couldn't threaten him as WC, qualifiers, & NGr's! The de Minaur walkover also gave him more rest & avoids the hazards of playing on grass! Rune should have been tougher in the 4th round, but Djokovic didn't drop a set to him or Musetti today in the SF! Should be a good final! :cool: 🥳:40beers::rolleyes:
 
Novak has looked sharper with every match. Carlos' movement is so amazing though, I think that gives him the ultimate edge on grass. Still... it would be impressive to see Djokovic reach #25. 🤷‍♂️
 
Djokovic seems to be hindered in his serve motion. Could be the knee or some other part that had to compensate during the recovery.

Very anticlimactic so far.

The Women’s Final was fantastic.

ETA. Although I also had the biggest crush on Goran until he beat my favourite Rafter in 2001. :lol: (Yes, I know he no longer coaches Novak, but still.)
 
Had a feeling djokovic would be overwhelmed because he was up against someone really young and healthy and great and he’s older and recovering
 
I was happy for Carlos yesterday. Never really been a Djoker fan, but his kids are cute. It was also great to see all the former champions in the audience. ANDRE!!!!!!!!!!!

I know this is an old post, but in case anyone doesn’t know, Rafa has withdrawn from the US Open :( he’s going to play at the Laver Cup in September, and many are predicting that will be it :fragile:I wouldn’t blame him, the last couple of years have been pretty much non stop injury, and his game hasn’t had a chance to come close to his amazing early 2022 form.

In more positive news, Rublev is in the Montreal final today and his behaviour has been much improved. I hope he’s battling his inner demons as he’s such a sweet guy off court but it’s awful when he keeps raging and hurting himself. I’m rooting for him to look after himself.

Yeah, I'm thinking he's pretty close to done. The heart is still willing, but the body isn't. I also predict that Djoker is probably going to retire sometime in the next 12 months, or early 2026 at the latest. I mean, he finally got that OGM, so what does he have left to strive for, realistically?

And yet they fined him $325k and he loses the 400 ranking points he got for the competition in question (Indian Wells). Seems like the "no fault" decision comes because they didn't have enough (any?) proof of doping, but perhaps didn't entirely believe his story that the steroid was inadvertently due to contact from his physio/massage therapist. Otherwise that seems like a pretty severe fine for believing it was just an accident and that he/his team should be more careful moving forward.

He lost the points, and prize money because of the failed tests because athletes are responsible for any substance that enters their body, and it's just a matter of the level of fault in question. Because it's been ruled an unintentional positive test result he was not subject to further punishment.

It bothered me a little when Cahill was making out Sinner was such a victim w/ this nightmare investigation of months finally ending his suffering! Other players from the past & present are not happy w/ the difference in treating this situation! Others would be suspended regardless if they're aware of a PED or not! Halep who was coached by Patrick Mouratoglou got ejected off the WTA for a 4 year ban! After an appeal by a sport's COURT, the penalty was reduced to 9 months which she had already served! Sinner's skating away, giving the system a raspberry! :p :rolleyes: :yawn: :cry: :cautious:

I saw Nick Kyrgios, unsurprisingly, had quite a few remarks to make about the situation. None in favor of Sinner. :lol:

Some random person on Twitter said the tested dosage was something like one millionth of a gram, which would have zero effect on anyone. But I have not seen anything to back up that claim.

I've been more interested in the past! I miss the tour when Osaka & Barty were on top! Fedal's gone & Novak's on his last legs! After winnng Olympic Gold last month, I'm not sure what will motivate the guy at 37 holding so many of the tour records! He's just extending them every time he goes out there! His latest achievement is being the only player w/ at least 88 match wins at all 4 majors! If not for missing a few USO, he'd be at 96! We'll see what he can muster as #2 seed behind Sinner! Jannik's gotta be feeling the heat & controversy he's overcoming w/ failed drug tests from March at Indian Wells! :rolleyes: 🥳:scream::40beers:

Novak is not what he once was but is hardly on his last legs, unless you deem all his current competition completely incompetent. His motivation is he wants to leave a legacy that can never be surpassed. He is also still making top $.

If Nole isn't on his last legs, why is it he's only won that Olympic Gold Medal this season? Djokovic isn't even getting to finals besides Wimbledon & that was a shock seeing as he had surgery on his Meniscus just weeks before! I hope he can hang in there a bit longer, but don't want to see him drop precipitously in results as some past champs! His legacy is already secured w/ #'s that may never be approached; esp. 8 YE #1's, 428 Weeks at #1, 24 Majors & counting, 40 Masters 1000 wins, & 7 YEC's! This is just a few of many records he owns now & maybe forever! :rolleyes: 🥳:scream::40beers:
