Gubs is most likely done; Hendrickx made comments either just before or during Euros which make it clear this is her last season. There's a greater likelihood of Aoki continuing on for another season than either Gubanova or Hendrickx, IMO.

I'd also be surprised if You continues, same with Schizas.

I'm pretty sure Rizzo will be done; not sure about Cha, Yamamoto or Hiwatashi's intentions; Jin will keep skating until he falls apart if the CFSA has anything to do with it.

I re-did the men list due to so many new SB at 4CC, and Tomoki's retirement.

MEN
GROUP 1- Ilia Malinin, Yuma Kagiyama, Shun Sato, Daniel Grassl, Mikhail Shaidorov, Adam Siao Him Fa

GROUP 2- Kao Miura, Junhwan Cha, Nika Egadze, Sota Yamamoto, Kazuki Tomono, Nikolaj Memola,

GROUP 3- Kevin Aymoz, Boyang Jin, Aleksandr Selevko, Matteo Rizzo?, Minkyu Seo, Stephen Gogolev

GROUP 4- Rio Nakata, Lukas Britschgi, Roman Sadovsky?, Vladimir Samoilov, Jacob Sanchez, Andrew Torgashev

GROUP 5- Georgii Reshtenko, Yudong Chen, Francois Pitot, Mihhail Selevko, Vladimir Litvintsev, Andreas Nordeback, Tamir Kuperman, Adam Hagara

Scores to watch- Maxim Naumov, Lucius Kazanecki

Biggest leaps at 4CC were Wesley Chiu up to 55, Zhiming Peng up to 61, Jacob Sanchez up to 27, Junhwan Cha up to 8, Sota Yamamoto up to 10, Kao Miura up to 7, Kazuki Tomono up to 11, and Boyang Jin up to 15.

Isn’t Kazuki retiring? And I’ll be shocked if Rizzo keeps going, isn’t this his third Olympics?

If Minsol skates like she could as a senior, I expect Schizas to retire. Kaori was wise to get out of the way of Shimada, and Young You should go gracefully as well.

Amber was a late bloomer and might hang in there, likewise Aoki. I hope so, anyway.

Yes, there will be a lot of people I will have to take off the lists as the retirements roll in...

It is unclear what Kazuki’s plans are. Here is what was said after Nationals:

Because I can feel my growth, when I am asked about the future, I hesitate to answer.

"There are many things I can improve by taking on the sport as a sport... To be honest, I still feel like I'm getting better."

Re-posting here from the U.S. Women's news thread:
[...]
I'd be shocked if [Alina] Bonillo winds up with anything but a SkAm host assignment on the initial list and maybe not even then depending on how many other US women are ahead of her & receive 2 or 1 GPs straight away.
Interesting list- so I just added on some potential scenarios (outside of SB 40) to replace those, keeping the host spots with host skaters. I think Haruna or Mako may be in the running for the NHK TBD, and Seojin being the only other 40-48 skater not on the above list. So yea, if 40 is the cutoff again, Alina may be waiting on the alternates list, but Shiryaeva, Dupuis, and Karhunen (48, 50, and 51 on last season's list) all ended up with a spot or 2, so that could bode well, especially with more retirements likely after this current season...

I am giving the SCI host spots in my scenario to those skaters since A) they placed higher than SMD at Nationals, and B) SMD is likely high enough on the SB list to get a spot or end up super high on the alternates list. But knowing SC, they will give it to Kaiya and Schizas and hand back the 3rd spot :p

For Team Japan, here is roughly where things stand

WOMEN
Basically 9 max (if 2 spots each) on GP (if all continue)- AMI, MAO, MONE, AOKI, RION, RINKA, MIYAKE, RINO
H MURAKAMI/MAKO Y battling for TBD spot and on alternates list
Alternates- Kaoruko Wada and Hana Yoshida

MEN
GP Spots- YUMA, SHUN, KAO, TOMONO, SOTA, NAKATA
--------
Challenger and/or battling for NHK TBD spot- EBIHARA, YOSHIOKA, KATAISE, OSHIMA

-----------------
Team Korea

MEN
GP- CHA, MINKYU
ALTERNATES- HYUNGYEOM, JAEKEUN

WOMEN
GP- JIA SHIN, YUJAE, YUSEONG, HAEIN, CHAEYEON, SEOYOUNG
ALTERNATES- SEOJIN YOUN, AHSUN YUN

Bumping this up... I know we still have Jr Worlds and Worlds (as well as the Olympic Women's FS tomorrow)... Specifically focusing on Pairs & Dance today.

Likely retirements will impact who will be in the mix for GP assignments. About the only teams who I feel very confident will be retiring/re-retiring are Miura/Kihara, Ghilardi/Ambrosini, Kovalev/Kovalev and Sui/Han (plus Beccari/Guarise who are definitely done from what I've heard). It would seem likely that Kam/O'Shea and Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps are also done and possibly Chtchetinina/Wozniak, but the only one I'd bet on for sure is Kam/O'Shea.
It also seems safe to assume that Miura/Kihara, Sui/Han and Ghilardi/Ambrosini won't be at Worlds (GhiAmbro indicated this in the Mixed Zone after their FS). There's a high probability that Conti/Macii and Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps will also skip Worlds to recover from their injuries. With those teams out of the mix and based off of Season's Best scores, I'm projecting the following teams will be in the Top 10 at Worlds & therefore guaranteed 2 GPs:

Hase/Volodin
Metelkina/Berulava
Efimova/Mitrofanov
Pavlova/Sviatchenko
Kam/O'Shea*
Pereira/Michaud
Zhang/Huang
Hocke/Kunkel
Laurin/Ethier
Vouillamoz/Bouvart
+ 11th placed team should KamO retire - McBeath/Parkman

48 spots total - 20 spots = 28 spots remaining

Sitting in the SB Top 24 and not likely to be displaced, therefore guaranteed at least 1 GP -
Conti/Macii
Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps*
Nagaoka/Moriguchi
Chan/Howe
Shin/Nagy
Akopova/Rakhmanin
Chtchetinina/Wozniak
Plazas/Fernandez

Kemp/Elizarov are currently #24 but they could be surpassed by one of the young Chinese teams at Jr Worlds (none of whom are eligible for seniors for a few more seasons).

28 spots remaining - 9 spots = 19 spots remaining

And sitting in the WS Top 24 and also guaranteed at least 1 GP -
Conti/Macii
Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps*
Chan/Howe
Vaipan-Law/Digby
Chtchetinina/Wozniak
Nagaoka/Moriguchi
Danilova/Tsiba
Kemp/Elizarov
Shin/Nagy
Plazas/Fernandez (may be surpassed by Flores/Wang if they earn enough incremental points at Jr Worlds, there is only about a 100 point difference between them)

19 spots remaining - 10 spots = 9 spots remaining

Of the 9 spots left, one has to look at host spots:
USA - 2 - Liu/Bedard & one TBD for a new team
CAN - 1 - Desrochers/Thrasher
FRA - 2 - Faula/Belle & Wessenberg/Strekalin
CHN - none of their junior teams are old enough for seniors next season
JPN - no other pairs teams
FIN - no pairs teams

9 spots remaining - 5 spots = 4 spots remaining

Best guess - Akopova/Rakhmanin, Vaipan-Law/Digby & Faula/Belle get a 2nd GP assignment; Plazas/Fernandez get a 2nd assignment too if they wind up being passed on the WS Top 24 list by Flores/Wang

Bypassed for any GP assignments & sitting on the GP Alternates list:
Izzo/Maierhofer
Holichenko/Darenskyi
Valesi/Bidar
Liu/Bedard (SkAm host)
Caldara/Maglio
Desrochers/Thrasher (SCI host)
Gunnarsdottir/Piazza
Flores/Wang (1 maybe?)
Danilova/Tsiba (1 from WS ranking)
Williams/Lewer
Ryom/Han
Schaller/Mayer
Wessenberg/Strekalin (GPdF host)
Ehrhard/Pellegris
Golubeva/Giotopoulos Moore

Nice work, thank you! Also keep in mind that US has 3 pairs at Worlds and Shin/Nagy will be there in the event that Kam/Oshea skip it. Mcbeath/Parkman are already assigned to worlds without waiting for withdrawals, so they have a great shot at top 10 in your scenario...should be interesting to see who shows up, I love the new opportunities that we see at a post olympics Worlds for medals and teams to rise in the rankings!

I don't think KamO will skip Worlds after the way their FS went in the Pairs event. And if they did withdraw, well... ShiNagy ain't beating any of those other teams I listed for Top 10 nor McBark. I'd be surprised to see them finish higher than 14th based on how that FS has gone all season.

With regard to McBark, they have 1 4CCs as their ISU Championship experience & their SB happened at John Nicks, so I tend to give the edge to LaurEth and VouBou handling the pressure & environment better and placing ahead of them. It could certainly go much better than that, but I'm feeling they'll be just outside the Top 10 of the teams likely to be competing in Prague.

That's fair, and also I would say Nagaoka/Moriguchi have a decent shot at top 10, despite their rough SP at the Olympics. They have been essentially holding pace with Zhang/Huang all season, and did manage bronze at 4CC after all

I'm not convinced that NagaMori will finish in the top 10. They have yet to compete well outside of Asia. Maybe they'll finally prove me wrong in Prague but I'm not putting any faith in them until they prove me wrong.

WOMEN ALT LIST- Pinzarrone moves up to the regular list and off the alternate list...also Julia Sauter who was below the whole alternate list is now in a guaranteed spot or close to it.

I don't understand your groups, @haribobo. GP entries are determined, first, by the Worlds results. At this point neither Alysa nor Mikhail will be seeded as they won't be at Worlds.

After that, any skaters in the SB or WS Top 24 are guaranteed 1 GP. After the seeded skaters, host spots & 1 GP guaranteed are allocated, then the GP host feds go back & fill in any empty spots from the skaters on the SB Top 75 list. Usually, for singles, everyone who is on the SB Top 24 and also on the WS Top 24 (after it is reset to drop the 2023-24 points & reduce the 2024-25 points to 70%) will get a 2nd GP, but the reverse isn't true for anyone only on the WS Top 24 who is outside the SB Top 24 (see Shin & Samodelkina last season, for example). More likely than not, host fed skaters sitting in the SB 25-40 range will be prioritized for GP assignments, even a 2nd one, ahead of anyone else - very much a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" situation.

I haven't really sat down & gone through either the SB or WS lists yet since we still have Worlds, but I'd put money on Chen & Pitot in the men and Karhunen, von Felten, Schild & Schizas in women getting at LEAST 1 GP if not 2 on the initial assignments list.

I know that's how they work but I don't have the ability to predict the future for Worlds standings. So I just did groups of 6 based on SB list (except the last group sometimes I threw a few extra in...people like Schizas who we all know will get 2 spots if she is still competing). Then the alternates are just anyone age eligible in order by SB. There is not much point in looking at WS right now since it will all be changed after the old season gets dropped. So all we really can look at is SB scores, which are going to be pretty decent indicators of who gets assigned. Of course some of those lower ranked host skaters will get spots, but I am not really delving into host spots seriously for right now.

Assuming some retirements that we don't yet know about, I kind of assume everyone even in my group 5 will likely get assigned...of course I will have to update the groups after Worlds, and then we can start to formulate a more proper list...

Okay, time to take a deep dive into the current WS and SB rankings for all of the disciplines...

Men's World Standings - Top 24 + any skaters who can possibly break into the Top 24 at Worlds - mind, this is prior to the end-of-season reset which will drop the 2023-24 points & reduce the 2024-25 points to 70%
Malinin, Kagiyama, Shaidorov, Sato, Siao Him Fa, Aymoz, Egadze, Britschgi, Grassl, Miura, Rizzo, Tomono, Yamamoto, Cha, A Selevko, Memola, Brown, Sanchez, Hagara, Vasiljevs, Torgashev, M Selevko, Litvintsev, Jin / Gogolev (currently 25th & less than 100 points from surpassing M Selevko, Litvintsev & Jin)

Men's Season Best - Top 24 + any skaters who can possibly break into the Top 24 at Worlds -
Malinin, Kagiyama, Sato, Shaidorov, Grassl, Siao Him Fa, Cha, Gogolev, Miura, Egadze, Gumennik*, Yamamoto, Tomono, Nakata, Memola, Aymoz, Torgashev, Jin, Brown, A Selevko, Rizzo, Seo, Britschgi, Hiwatashi** / Samoilov, Reshtenko, Chen, Pitot

Likely Seeded Skaters - 24 spots out of 72
Malinin, Kagiyama, Sato, Grassl, Siao Him Fa, Cha, Gogolev, Miura, Egadze, Aymoz, Torgashev, Britschgi (I know Brown, Elder Selevbro & Rizzo are higher on the SB list, but Britschgi beat Selevko & Rizzo at the Olympics & I've got zero faith about the shape Brown is in to contend for Top 12 in Prague)

Likely 2 GPs as they're on both the WS & SB Top 24 Lists - 14 spots out of 48 remaining
Shaidorov, Yamamoto, Tomono, Memola, Brown, A Selevko, Rizzo

Guaranteed 1 GP based on WS Top 24 - 5 spots out of 34 remaining
Sanchez, Hagara, Vasiljevs, M Selevko, Litvintsev

Guaranteed 1 GP based on SB Top 24 - 2 spots out of 29 remaining
Nakata, Seo

Will get a 2nd GP based on being from a host fed - 2 spots out of 27 remaining
Sanchez, Nakata

Host fed spots - 18 spots out of 25 remaining
USA - Kapeikis, Naumov, Kazanecki, Blackwell are sitting at 45, 46, 48 & 53 on the SB list respectively - expect 1 each for all 4; Ma, Martynov, Shinohara & Farrington are all further down the SB Top 75 & won't likely get a GP unless it's a SkAm host spot (Farrington will probably stay on the JGP next season, I'd guess)
CAN - Sadovsky is 25 on the SB list - expect 2 GPs; Long, Rakic, Chiu, Newnham are SB 54, 55, 56 & 57 respectively - expect 1 GP for 2 of them
CHN - Chen is 31 on the SB list & could move up to the SB Top 24 with a good showing at Worlds, but even if he doesn't, expect 2 GPs; Peng is SB 63 and will get a CoC host spot
JPN - Nishino (too young), Tsuboi, & Takahashi are sitting at 27, 33 & 49 on the SB list - expect 2 for Tsuboi & 1 for Takahashi; Uemura is SB 69 but too young for seniors
FRA - Pitot, Economides - Pitot is 32 on the SB list & could move up to the SB Top 24 with a good showing at Worlds, but even if he doesn't, expect 2 GPs for Pitot; Economides is sitting at 41 on the SB list - expect at least 1 GP, possibly 2; Hammi is SB 51 and could get a GPdF host spot

Remaining GP spots - 4 out of 7 remaining
Likely to get a 2nd GP based on SB Top 24 position - Seo

Likely will 1 GP based on SB 25-30 position - S Lee 26, Samoilov 28, Reshtenko 30

Possibly will get 1 GP based on SB 31-40 position - Nordeback 37, Kuperman 38, Marsak 40 - of these three, only Nordeback is a guarantee, IMO, because the Finnish fed likes to invite skaters from neighboring feds & they've invited Nordeback at least twice in this past Olympic cycle; having said that all three could improve their SB position with a good showing at Worlds & make it more likely they'll get a GP invitation; but especially Kuperman & Marsak are vulnerable to not being invited at all in favor of host fed skaters with no GPs like Marytnov & some of the Canadian men in the SB 54-57 range.

Women's World Standings - Top 24 + any skaters who can possibly break into the Top 24 at Worlds - mind, this is prior to the end-of-season reset which will drop the 2023-24 points & reduce the 2024-25 points to 70%
Sakamoto**, Liu, Chiba, Glenn, Levito, Tennell, Gubanova, C Kim, Gutmann, Nakai, Pinzarrone, Petrokina, Everhardt, Yoshida, Watanabe, Pezzetta, Samodelkina, Schizas, Hendrickx, Schild, H Lee, Lin-Gracey, Shin, Repond

Women's Season Best - Top 24 + any skaters who can possibly break into the Top 24 at Worlds -
Sakamoto*, Nakai, Liu, Shimada, Chiba, Aoki, Petrokina, Sumiyoshi, Glenn, Petrosian, Levito, Watanabe, H Lee, Gubanova, Shin, Samodelkina, Bath*, Hendrickx, Gutmann, Pinzarrone, Everhardt, Yj Kim, Tennell, Oka*

Likely Seeded Skaters - 24 spots out of 72
Nakai, Chiba, Petrokina, Glenn, Levito, H Lee, Gubanova, Shin, Samodelkina, Gutmann, Pinzarrone, Everhardt

Likely 2 GPs as they're on both the WS & SB Top 24 Lists - 8 spots out of 48 remaining
Liu, Tennell, Watanabe, Hendrickx

Guaranteed 1 GP based on WS Top 24 - 7 spots out of 40 remaining
C Kim, Yoshida, Pezzetta, Schizas, Schild, Lin-Gracey, Repond

Guaranteed 1 GP based on SB Top 24 - 4 spots out of 33 remaining
Shimada, Aoki, Sumiyoshi, Yj Kim

Will get a 2nd GP based on being from a host fed - 5 spots out of 29 remaining
Schizas, Schild, Shimada, Aoki, Sumiyoshi

Host fed spots - 21 spots out of 24 remaining
USA - Andrews 30 (switching to Pairs), von Felten 38, Bonillo 52, Shao 63 (too young), Lin-Gracey 70, Chao 72 (too young) - expect von Felten to get 2 GPs & Bonillo to likely get 1 GP; and 1 SkAm host spot held
CAN - Dupuis 47, Daleman 53, Ruiter 65, Landry 68 - possibly 1 each for Dupuis & Daleman; none for Ruiter or Landry, and 1 host spot that may go to Minsol Kwon if she has her international release from KOR
CHN - Zhang 60 - will be assigned to CoC as a host spot, plus China will hold onto their other 2 host spots
JPN - Miyake 27, Okada 29 (too young), Kanazawa 31 (too young), Matsuike 33 - right now Japan has 6 skaters who will get 2 GPs per my projections - both Miyake & Matsuike will get 1 each; further down the SB list are Murakami 45, Yamashita 51, Wada 57 (too young) & Yoshida 58 - Japan will max out their spots, likely holding 2 host spots to see who earns a 2nd GP (Miyake, Matsuike, Yoshida) or warrants 1 GP (Murakami, Yamashita)
FRA - Serna 75 - probably will get a GPdF host spot, and France will hold onto 1 host TBD spot
FIN - Lisko 28, Karhunen 35 - will get 2 GPs each with Finland holding onto 1 host TBD spot

Remaining GP spots - 3 out of 3 remaining
Likely will get 1 GP based on SB 25-30 position - You 25, Ys Kim 26

Possibly will get 1 GP based on SB 31-40 position - Sauter 37

Dance is very fluid and some of these projections may change based on who actually DOES retire - apparently GuigFab gave an interview this past week that hinted they may continue (why????), and I've heard rumors of at least one team that is on my projected seeded list that may split at the end of the season (retirement for one while the other continues).
