I'm always up for a new Ishiguro adaptation, though it's so long since I read A Pale View of Hills that I honestly don't remember anything about it. I might try to squeeze in a re-reading before this opens.

We can sit in the club together then, because I also thought his relationship with Penny was so much better in every way. Probably part of it is the change in society as well, but the fact that Mav and Penny were the same or similar age, that their relationship was more mature, was such a nice plot element. (Though I admit to spending a good part of the movie on first watch afraid that they were about to drop the plot twist that her daughter was secretly Maverick's. I'm so glad they didn't take that lazy route.)

But this is where F1 comes back into it. Like motorsport it has struggled with ingrained sexism for a long time. And it was only this year that we got a woman in a race engineering position (Laura Muller for Esteban Ocon). And those women who do make it still get misogynistic slurs thrown at them and accusations of sleeping their way to the top - which is why this plotline is infuriating so many. Particularly given Lewis Hamilton is listed as a producer.

Plus, IMHO - Kerry Condon has been a pretty underrated actress. That’s what makes me nervous about this.

Hhmmm.....wasn't the least bit interested in yet another Superman but this looks interesting. Hiring James Gunn may have been crucial for this franchise. And using the iconic John Williams theme doesn't hurt.
 
Really liked Final Destination bloodlines. Great premonition scene, some good kills, Tony Todd's cameo (this is his last film ) ?
 
The next movie I'm excited about is Bring Her Back, which is by the same directors as Talk to Me. Horror is having a good year
 
I want to see MI but I am not sure I will be able to see it on its opening weekend. :(

It’s tricky because the film is apparently over two and a half hours long.

I can’t believe Final Destination Bloodlines made ~$100M worldwide. It’s still a pass for me. ?

? Hurry Up Tomorrow flopped HARD. I don’t think even anyone in Canada ?? bothered to watch this apparent fever dream that The Weeknd had. ?

Saw Thunderbolts* today in the theater. My overall rating: 8.0/10.

This is an improvement for Marvel Studios. I didn’t really feel that this film was really obsessive about “Mental Health Avengers!” that I’ve seen rants about. I do think it went into the “psychological battle” and “teamwork” of fighting as superheroes.

I do think that the film disproportionally benefited from the acting abilities of Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and Lewis Pullman.

NITPICK: I still don’t think Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the right person to portray Valentina (CIA Director). I think they should have gone with someone who’s been less comedic.

You definitely need to stay until the end of the credits. I will definitely try the next “New Avengers” movie from MCU. I’ll admit to still feeling ? about The Fantastic Four: First Steps that’s coming out later this summer.

I definitely think mental health issues and family dysfunction were a theme, but not obsessively.
