At my favorite other site the folks there are all going ape**** for "Companion" and said the less you know the better so I will end my statement here.

I can't wait for the monkey to be released next week. The reviews for it are great.

I'm afraid I have to wait until the movies come out on STARZ, MGM+ channels and Peacock.

I just saw the movie, Arthur the King, and I was almost in tears. I didn't realize how good of a movie it was going to be, and I loved Mark Wahlberg. I always love Mark Wahlberg in any movie he's in.

I recommend this movie for anyone that wishes to see it, and it's based on a true story.

I also saw Twisters and Wild Robot on Peacock.

Twisters was okay, but I liked the original Twister movie with Helen Hunt.

I wasn't at first going to watch Wild Robot. I had seen trailers on TV, however and decided to watch it. I loved it! It's a great movie for the whole family.

The Wild Robot 2024

I'm now waiting for the latest movie with Liam Neesom. Most of his latest movies come out on the MGM+ channels with DirecTV which used to be the EPIX channels. The MGM+ channels (3 altogether) show a lot of the latest movies with no commercials.

Gladiator II is on Pay Per View, but I got to see it on MGM+ the other night. It will also be on tonight at 8:30 p.m. central on the MGM channel 558 with DirecTV. It's 3 channels for $5.99 per month and it's worth it because some of the latest movies are shown on those channels.

I almost forgot. I'm watching The Beekeeper on MGM+ channel 558 at the moment. Gladiator II will be on right after The Beekeeper.

I also saw Twisters and Wild Robot on Peacock.

Twisters was okay,

Ohppphhhh I saw that twisters flying to I think Spain, I thought that was from the worst movies ever… if it didn’t use the ridiculous soundtrack, I could’ve taken a bit more seriously but I couldn’t take that movie seriously because of the ridiculous music they used.

I think Sharknado was better lol

My kid saw Captain America: Brave New World yesterday. She said it was okay. To quote her: Half of it was a real movie. The rest was undercooked.

That's the impression the trailers have given me so I'm not surprised.

Really enjoyed Bridget Jones “Mad about the Boy” today. I know the franchise has not been wildly successful in the US though.

Speaking of which I just saw YouTube a few nights ago, that said all the women that were being considered for the role of Bridget back in the day .. from Kate Winslet (considered to be too young) back then… Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, Cate Blanchett, Rachel Weiss, Helena Bonham Carter (which I think is weird) gosh maybe one or two more I’m trying to remember.

I believe everybody up for the role was a Brit with the exception of Renee and Cameron.

Loved Captain America but it definitely isn’t among the top tier of Marvel movies. Felt like episode one of a tv show. I guess episode two comes in a few months. All that said I really LOVED that little bit at the end… There is a small post credit scene at the very end but it is nothing much.

I finally saw Anora yesterday. At 45 minutes I looked at my watch and wondered if I should leave. I stayed because it appeared that finally a story was evolving. I can handle sex in movies but to keep watching kinki sex and prostitution in almost every scene for 35-45 minutes was boring. A better screenplay would have made that part shorter by at least 10 minutes.

Once the story began (search for Vanya) it started taking some shape. The part after the parents arrived was entertaining. It got much better toward the end. Still I refuse to call it best picture or one of the best pictures when only the last 1/4 of the movie is meaningful.

I realize it is meant to be a comedy, and I am not a fan of comedy unless it is either subtle or intellectual. I don’t think that influenced my evaluation though. I found the second half to be quite good.

Mikey Madison does well as the central character. She looks like a Chinese (or mix) to me. I read somewhere that the character she plays is from Uzbekistan (hence her knowledge of Russian). TBH I know very little about the people in UZB; what they look like. I know one skater, I think. Anyway, this is not really important.

When I read that Yuri Borisov is nominated for Supporting actor, i assumed that he was the actor who played the young man Vanya. So I was a bit surprised when I found out who he played. Borisov is an acclaimed actor in Russia but I was surprised by the nomination.

The story developed well toward the end but I don’t feel it deserves a best picture award. If it wins the BP Oscar, it could be like Crash winning over Brokeback mountain. I just don’t understand the critics’ fascination with this movie. I gave it 7/10 on IMDb and it was only because of the ending.

P.S. I am in Scottsdale for a few days. I wanted to see the Brazilian movie (I’m still here) yesterday but it was running at the theatre where I was to go today. It is a bit far, so I saw Anora which was running at a theatre that is closer. I will see I’m still here either Sunday or next week.unfortunately it will stop running at a theatre near my home.

I like watching documentary features and international movies that are nominated. I may see Flow. So far I have not seen the documentary features being shown anywhere.

Spent Valentine’s Day evening grilling a ribeye steak with some roasted potatoes and finally watched Flow. In the 🇺🇸, it’s available to rent on Amazon Prime ($5.99). I’m not sure when and where the availability is or will be elsewhere. I’ve been told that this could be an issue for Flow winning at BAFTA this weekend.

I give Flow a 9.0/10. IMHO, this is easily the best animated flim from 2024. It deserved its Golden Globe win and should win the Academy Award over The Wild Robot. This film is the animation of an animals I’ve seen in years; maybe ever. 🐈‍⬛ 🐕 🦝 🐿️ 🦢 🐋

I will admit that I swore at the screen when the other dogs left the crew in the middle of saving the capybara just to chase that rabbit. But the Labrador was loyal. 🙂

But the final two scenes - the cat with the whale 😔 and then the remaining crew looking their reflection together in the water. 🥺

I know that but I think it (along with other ‘stan’ countries) used to be a part of the USSR
Yes, but the country's native people are Uzbeks. Uzbeks are of Turkic origin. Anthropologically, Turkics are a mixture of Caucasoid and Mongoloid components. Some people refer to this as Eurasian. Their ethnicity didn't change when Russia grabbed the land in 1924 and Usbeks are still the majority of the population—over 80% of the country.

This is true of almost all the 'stans -- they are Turkic ethnically.

Voters for the awards shows are sent screeners so Flow not being super available for us until this weekend shouldn't be an issue for it at the BAFTA's.

@SHARPIE I’m currently watching Bridget Jones mad about the boy on Peacock right now. I love Renee and I think she was such a great choice for this role, however, this is coming out to me like an episode of sex and the city .. and about dating and about how girls Pineaway for boys to like them …. so far, I hope it changes a little bit. But I do love me some Renee.
