She's very good at getting public attention for herself when she wants it. It's quite possible she is trying to capitalize on the Olympics to get something. Kristi has always been the breadwinner between her and Bret (at least since her retirement) and they didn't exactly live the most modest lifestyle (their house was minimum $2.5 million when they bought it - but could've easily been $5 million based on the neighborhood, they drove the latest high end Teslas, etc) and it's not cheap to maintain that.

I'm not sure any of us had any idea how intimately you were acquainted with their finances and lifestyle.

You're free to believe me or not, but it was common local non-rink knowledge. In this case I heard from the family's nanny and others who were family friends or lived nearby. It wasn't talked about at the rink at all, but I know about the cars because I'd see them there.

I'm not sure why people were saying Bret wasn't contributing financially, but I do know that was part of the rumor. I do know the TV work wasn't that steady and that hockey development coaches don't make a ton compared to, say, full on NHL coaches.
