There are no reallocations in the pairs discipline.

Well, the Swiss JGP selection document said they'd "returned" most of their spots, so there was a question in my mind as to whether or not the ISU would decide to reallocate pairs spots this year even though the JGP General Announcement doesn't reallocate any pairs spots. It would have been nice had they done so since we all know that neither Georgia nor Ukraine have any junior pairs teams let alone enough to fill up the dozen JGP spots each of them have this season.

I want to continue my campaign/idea that it makes more sense for the top JGP spots to be decided in priority of the countries that have at least two skaters/teams that have made it into the FS. You wouldn't need to have so much of this complicated replacement procedure...

Ehhhhh... I'd actually make it more complicated, because I don't think it's necessarily fair to punish countries that harshly at the JGP level - it IS a developmental series after all, and there are often skaters coming up through the pipeline from Advanced Novice who deserve a shot if someone from their country does exceptionally well at Jr Worlds, and find a way to reward countries for utilizing the JGP spots they earn.

I think maybe the better way to do it would be to allocate the spots the first season a country earns them but if they don't use at least as many spots as the next highest tier in the next JGP season & they earn additional spots again at the next Jr Worlds then they are dropped down to the next tier the following season & the next highest placing country gets moved up a tier, though still allow all countries who have at least 1 entry at JWC to earn at least 3 JGP spots for the next season regardless of whether they used 3 spots that JGP season.

Hmmmmm... Japan doesn't have an ice dance spot in Baku, so it would seem they don't plan on using their spots in Riga, Ankara, or Varese. I'm a bit surprised that Yoshida/Ogahara weren't assigned 1 JGP right out of the gate like Yamashita/Nagata, but maybe they've split like Kishimoto/Tamura.

Also, I find it really hard to believe the JSF isn't using all of their women's spots. They didn't use all of their men's spots last year, but I'm wondering if there is a chance additional skaters/teams could be assigned to the earlier JGPs after summertime monitoring.

Reallocated spots -
Varese
Men - New Zealand relinquished their spot - USA picked up the additional spot, which means both Germany & Estonia declined a 2nd spot as they were next in line ahead of the USA.
Women & Dance - none were relinquished

Bangkok -
Men, Women & Pairs - none were relinquished
Dance - Belgium relinquished their spot, Italy relinquished both of their spots; Canada picked up one additional spot, France picked up one additional spot which means Ukraine elected to not accept a 2nd spot in Bangkok

As predicted, NZL kept their 1 Men's spot, which means Li will be competing in Riga & Bangkok & that also means there will be at least 1 spot available for reallocation in Baku & Gdansk. Given that Germany did not accept a 2nd spot in Varese, chances are quite good the USA will pick up a 2nd Men's spot in Baku. It's interesting that Estonia didn't accept a 2nd spot in Varese either. We'll see what happens with Germany & Estonia when it comes to Gdansk, but it's looking even better for the USA to pick up a 2nd spot there too.

With Dance... It's really interesting that Italy is basically giving up most of their spots. They kept their 3 for Varese. It may be that they only plan on sending 4 teams out on the JGP - there's a pretty wide point gap between the top 4 junior age-eligible teams at their Nats and the last 2 teams. Meanwhile, Germany is holding onto all of their spots so far - probably aiming to give themselves some flexibility to assign teams to later JGPs if they have a minor injury in July or August that delays their season debut. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled to see whether or not Canada, who is next in line for a 2nd spot, picks up any (seems doubtful).

As usual, the 4th-best nation--USA in the men's division-- is first alternate for extra men's spots. The U.S. gets an extra spot in Italy if they want it before Germany or Estonia are asked, even if they're received an additional spot at earlier event(s) as well.
