FYI - in the first group alone we got one "cuddly toys" from Mark and two programs with "Cosmic Girl". I mostly tuned out the 2nd group. Will be refocusing attention with the third group, then probably dipping back out again.

For the penultimate team, Mark did what Ted did yesterday - repeating what the tech panel were saying as the program was skated.

After all 4 groups of the RD, the results:

I was a bit surprised Sol/Tag scored as high as they did, when Arianna had what Mark called a "wibbly wobbly woo" (which translates to a loss of momentum) on her second twizzle.

There program was highly stylized that fit the 90's theme, and the music. Not the most difficult transitional content, but they skated clean.

RD thoughts

Pidgaina/Koval

good twizzles which covered a lot of ice, good sense of musical timing and rhythm in midline step sequence to match the Can't Touch This music, excellent basics with good edges and knee bend, quick step not as strong as rhumba, think they could give a bit more conviction to the choreo dance moves

Feige/Middlekauf

great flow on the rhumba, negative GOE on quickstep, slowed way down for twizzles, nice basics and both a have a danceable quality in the way they move their upper bodies, nice potential for future

Sznajder/Novak

non-sibling Czech team, clean extended legline, difficult entry into twizzles then got far apart on those, definitely get the impression that they are dancing out there, good connection with the music and the choreo

Fischer/Fischer

long voiceover to start, neat footwork through rhumba--now needs to add expressiveness to it (level 4!), she bobbles twizzles, strong basics, next challenge for them will be adding consistent expression through the elements and creating a complete performance

Veillon/Brandys

nice unison, and skating close together, I find her posture a bit hunched forward, interesting sliding move, out of sync on twizzles and little bobble from him, nice rotational lift to close

Koch/Chataignoux

black and yellow costumes but not a Kill Bill program, good body alignment through the rhumba, kinda slow through the rotational lift without much ice coverage, crisp twizzles, presentation feels a bit forced

Soldati/Tagliabue

good speed, getting out of sync in places, nice energy and commitment to the interpretation, Individual elements were good, a lot of polishing to do in skating consistently closer together, matching legline, etc. There's a certain charisma to them that will carry them far

Feige/Middlekauf

not quite in sync on twizzles and level 1 from her--she started spinning in place on second one, good posture and carriage, some work to do on edgework and clarity of turns, particular for her, he has an expressive way of moving that is appealing and she hits some stunning lifts, good potential for future

Marler Davies/Black

They look comfortable together as a team. I'm not really ok with :D for Porgy and Bess, but if you wrench the piece of music from its context, then I suppose it can fit. It just doesn't work for me.

Tscharner/Weiderkehr

interesting martial arts theme, okay twizzles level 3 for her, think they could skate a bit closer together, impressive use of theme and it's incorporated well throughout the program. Beautiful stag position in the curve lift, the ubiquitous lay-down-on-the-ice move during the choreo steps--why? unique and enjoyable

Sznajder/Novak

Love that they chose such a different style from the RD, good to show range, nice maturity to their movement, showing some crisp and dynamic, emotional interpretation, he's getting some low levels on steps and turns so work to do there, but performance was so well done

Fischer/Fischer

Looks like they've left Agosto to be at Igor's school full-time. Good knee bend and getting deep into their edges, could add more facial expression, jump entry into twizzles and got a level 4 and 3, program similar in tone to their RD

Fischers looked slow, but they had good expression and presentation. Some nice details in the choreography. And cute costumes. :)

Great debut for Fischer/Fischer, they're going to end up with a higher point total score than all the other US teams who have had one assignment and Kouevi/Homawoo who had two.

Koch/Chataignoux

nice twizzles, working the edges through the one step turns, nice musical interpretation--think they could have added a bit more tension throughout, a little sticky getting out of their choreo slide move, mature performance
