Jacob’s Io Ci Saro. 3 ax-3toe great…then flops on 2nd 3ax…then pops something.
Better middle. Better as he goes.

Will he do it/win? Or “The Usual”? 😢

Jacob - good 3a+3t to open! and then he falls on the solo 3a, and pops a 1lo. Sigh. 3f+turns+2t; okay spin; he had 6 points to play with from the SP; comes back with a nice 3z+2a+2a, then a 3s and 3z; good sit spin, TES is almost matching Nakamura with 2 elements to go, so this should win but he's got work to do in Slovenia - which is, also, the easiest field of the 3 remaining.

Costume is a white mock turtleneck with a bunch of charcoal grey and forest green airbrushing on the cuffs and lower two-thirds of the torso, lots of crystals & stoning, black pants.

I set my alarm on a weekend for this because how often is an American man in first after SP in a JGP?

Stalked opening 3a-2t, but completed, fall on second 3a and popped his loop, well, that’s the Sanchez we know and love. Landed a nice 3z-2a-2a sequence, spin level could be improved

Very lucky to be in this field and his presumed second one is easier than some of the others, too (((Blackwell in CHN)))

Wellllll... That score would have been good enough for silver last week; bronze week 2; and just missed silver by .01 in week 1 - soooooo, I can't complain about it a TON even if there's clearly a lot of work for him to do on skating a clean FS ever.

ETA - I just realized, Jacob's gold medal here is the first for the USA in ANY discipline on the JGP this season! Good for him!

Will Jacob go to one of the three remaining JGPs? As per the interview with Ted, he has not been assigned a second JGP. I’m hoping that both he & Blackwell have second assignments.

Well, the reporting in the JGP thread in GSD is that the USFS has told the singles skaters that they will only get a 2nd JGP assignment if they medal. The USFS has submitted placeholder names for both Slovenia (Shinohara) and China (originally Sanchez, updated to Blackwell last week). The expectation is that Slovenia will go to Sanchez and Blackwell has already been, privately, assigned to China (likely to ensure the visa applications are processed in time).

Right now, the bigger question amongst US fans is which women will get the last two spots since none of our junior women have medaled so far.

Great for Blackwell and, I’m pretty sure, Sanchez.
