It's that time again! 2018 post-canadians annual pairs and dance splits (and retirements post Olys)

So many talented pair boys out there. I keep waiting for Boudreau-Audet to pick up with a Canadian girl. So few girls.....

I can see W/P staying until 2020. The downside is that unlike last cycle they will have at least the French and the Shibs blocking their international progress. So, I'm not sure what another low level international champ medal will do for their resume or feelings of accomplishment. But if it feels worth it, I say keep going.

Oh, I saw on social media that Justine Brasseur & Mark Bardei [age 21, previously skated for UKR] are still a team and are looking forward to next season. Can't wait to see her back on the ice in pairs!
Renata OGANESIAN / Mark BARDEI (UKR): http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00054224.htm

Liam MacDonald, 17, 11th in Novice Dance at 2017 Canadians, has updated his IPS profile. "I am able to skate for CAN, US, and UK."

Mark Bardei and his partner were 4th at Junior Worlds in 2016. It will be interesting to see how he and Justine do next season.

Asha Gumpinger from novice pairs is on Ice Partner search now. I think that's our first official pairs break up

Tessa Virtue / Scott Moir – retiring at season end

Not sure what "season end" refers to?
Anyhow, according to the last interview in French of Patrice Lauzon and Marie-France Dubreuil, Virtue/Moir will retire right after the Olys. They won't compete in Milan

Well technically, all Marie-France said is that the Olympics will be the last competition where V/M and P/C will compete against each other, which just means that they won't both do Worlds. But V/M would be the ones more likely to skip Worlds.

Season end for top skaters is Jr. Worlds, Worlds or WTT.

If V/M are retiring after Pyeongchang, that means Soucisse/Firus in Milan.

Interesting. Moir said on TV after they were announced as flag bearers that they had two more months left. Maybe they’re undecided. If they don’t win in Korea they definitely won’t be going to worlds IMO.

Still waiting on why it’s a surprise that Razgulajevs has a partner....?

Yeah, exactly.
Given Gabriella and Guillaume confirmed in Moscow they will be in Milan (which is obviously expected) then...

Oops, no WTT in Olympic years or usually in even years, so Worlds is the end of the season, aside from a few Spring internationals.

But again, Scott did imply differently when he spoke after the Flag Bearer announcement, and they have said several times that they wouldn't decide for sure until after the Olympics, so I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't actually decided for sure one way or another yet. But I am assuming they won't.

I think the only way to see to Tessa or Scott in Milan is if they have a fall or major mistake in the Olympics, they will want to have a clean final skate.

Quick update regarding Keelee Gingrich...she has removed her bio from IPS and posted a very nice farewell retirement notice on her facebook page.

No, I think Piper and Paul's free dance at the Olympics was outstanding. There is no way that SF could beat that free dance.

I agree although I think S&F have far more upside potiential than G&P and I can see them passing them eventually, but not at this Worlds. This trip to Worlds for S&F is for experience only. They have years ahead of them.
