Apparently retired plumbers & out-of-state plumbers have been encouraged to get or renew licenses.

Plumbers from out of state are heading to Texas to help repair winter storm damage

I would imagine it's very difficult to get help. Finding a plumber who can come in even in the best of times can be difficult. And many workmen/women involved in house improvement have had extraordinarily long wait lists. I have the impression that plumbers prioritize emergency jobs, but here you have a whole state in a state of emergency.

I know we have had some horrific flooding/tornado (unheard of in my city and neighbouring Quebec) in the past few years and their struggles with rebuilding. ❤️ To everything going on there.

In college, I had an electric blanket. About half a year after I graduated & was finally able to have my first house kitties, I had to throw out the electric blanket because there was no way to safely wash it and the blanket was inundated with kitty fur. But I didn't need the electric blanket anymore because I had kitty heat-generators.

Bandit is very accomodating and sleeps right between the two of us. That is, when he'll be up on the bed at all - he tends to prefer the rug or floor by the bed.
I have a king sized bed but I like to sleep on my side. Oscar thinks he is the most important dog in the world and deserving of all my attention. He’ll pin me down and expect me to lavish attention on him. My youngest will respect him with everything but fools him by crying for me on the floor so he can come up and cuddle on the side of me that is free. It’s crazy that sometimes I am right on the edge of falling out of bed.

When I broke my leg (again) my boyfriend went back to my house from the hospital to stay with Sadie overnight. He fed her and let her out and then said it was time for bed. She ran in and jumped up in the middle of the bed and waited. He didn't want to disturb her, so he slept from corner to corner on top of the covers. I said all he had to do was say "scooty over" and she would have. She always slept right next to me completely under the covers, but got in and out of the covers all night, if she got hot or cold.

< On the subject, took this picture yesterday when it was 58*. Only 43* right now. Most of it is still there.

I think the first four or five in this compilation are funny particularly if it has anything to do with animals. The rest...meh. I don't think Texans will forget this winter for awhile: https://youtu.be/emG-CxTGY8Y

My friend in Austin finally got water restored to his kitchen and downstairs half bath. He’s still waiting for the pipes to be fixed on the 2nd floor where the full bathrooms and laundry are.

Oh the weather outside is frightful---So here we are just before Christmas with a snow squall. Fun stuff. I was going to drive from my place (high of 2) to my sister's place (high of 2) and that is good compared to all of these people north of us. My wish for you is some sort of heat and safe travel if you must be out in this.

The rain has started here. I wish we could have a little bit of the snow (although not too much), instead of this cold rain.

Hopefully it doesn't turn into freezing rain for you as it's expected to do overnight here. There's a VERY light dusting of snow on the ground right now and it's supposed to continue for a few hours before transitioning to ice. As it is, I'm going to turn the electric blanket up because it's 21F and that's mighty cold for this part of Oregon!

Eh—why create a new thread? I pulled the old one. Yep it’s so effing cold again but it appears the zero degree weather I am in is positively balmy compared to North Dakota at -20. I hope all are warm and toasty.

It went from being really mild to really cold really fast. Not too bad considering it’s January but it will take a wh for me to adjust. LOL

It's -16°F now.

People still don't get global warming. One of my friends posted that she hoped this cold front would help reverse global warming.

No, I don't think she was sarcastic and yes, she is a fairly intelligent woman.

Even though this is typically one of the coldest weeks of the year here in NS, the cold hasn’t found us yet with the exception of a couple of days at the beginning of January.

High of +9C here today.

I’m sure it will be cold eventually.

We had the mildest winter ever until a few days ago with weather that seldom got below 32F with two or three days in the 50s. Right now it is -9F in midmorning. Not supposed to warm up much until next Sunday when it is predicted to reach a balmy 22F.

Well, it is January and we need some cold for the ice fishing people! I saw one fish house on my lake yesterday.

We had snow mixed with freezing rain last night so everything is coated in ice. It's 15F now at 10:20am.

Ice… it should be limited to rinks, ponds and cubes… blech!

Just checked the temp here: 3…I need to run some errands. At least the weather is dry.

We have sub zero F temps/feels like/wind chills and will only improve minimually over the next 10 days.

Right now we are on day 4 of intermittent internet with the last 48 hours of zero internet. We have a back up system through our phone data plan. But it's not great and not all streaming platforms work with it.
