According to the NY Times Saturday, March 13, the IOC has agreed to buy COVID vaccines from China for 2021 and 2022 Olympians.
New IOC President Thomas Bach made the announcement on Thursday. The vaccine will be provided to any Olympic athlete requiring one. The two-shot vaccination would apply to both Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

The agreement will also provide two vaccines for the general population in an athlete's home country for every vaccine given to an athlete.

The IOC clarified on Friday that athletes in countries which have not authorized Chinese vaccines for use could not benefit from the program.

Yeah, sure. When the majority of countries find a way to get athletes vaccinated by then, all of them will be banned because the IOC and WADA won't do anything to make sure this wouldn't result in a positive test for thousands of people.

No need for WADA to test people at Olys. The athletes who were vaccinated will all have grown pangolin scales all over their face and body and will be easy to spot, just like we already are, we, non-athlete vaccinated people. I agree with Japan - if I was unvaccinated and offered any vaccine developed in China, I would want to make sure it's tested within my country (or multiple countries') borders first. I know I made a snark about the quality of Chinese vaccines in another thread, but China did not have a good track record in vaccine quality before Miss Rona showed up. Furthermore, is anyone surprised that once countries start testing Sinovac and other vaccines inside their borders, the efficacy rate miraculously drops?

Ding ding ding! With the 2022 Olympics in China next year, and criticism being leveled on the Chinese government for how it's handling Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Uighurs, and the South China Sea, I'm pretty sure this move isn't out of the humanitarian benevolence of the CCP and President Xi.
