In Memoriam

My main question is: when was the last time anyone saw or heard from them? Based on what’s been printed, it has to have been a while
 
I have gas central heating and a gas stove. I have a carbon monoxide detector for that reason. From what I heard on the news this morning is that they died in three separate rooms including the dog.

It's a possibility that if they had a carbon monoxide detector, it didn't work properly. If they had gas central heating or a gas stove, that's the source of the carbon monoxide. It stands to reason that they very easily could have died from carbon monoxide poisoning in their sleep.

That is so strange to me as well. Look at the size of that house where a 65 year old and 95 year old lived alone (that's a lot of house to take care of at any age by yourself). They didn't have any kind of 'help', like a housekeeper or a maid that would come in, or a home health aide to assist in caring for someone who was 95 years old? Even though he was not acting anymore and maybe no longer had a publicist, surely they had a Business Manager to handle their affairs? Or even a personal assistant as people at that level of social status tend to have? Phone calls not being returned? Doctors appointments missed? The press conference made it sound like it had been several weeks, how did the 2 dogs that were found okay survive with no one feeding them?

The police have ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning. And a gas leak.

They had access to a doggie door and so could roam for food. The one that died was in a crate.

Well that part at least is somewhat known. The dogs were able to come and go from the house because there was a door open, so they could forage for their own food. Not ideal, but they were apparently OK.

But yes, this is quite strange. I don't envy the investigators given the amount of time that has passed, and the limited information available.

He was 95. His children are aged 58-65. I don't know about you, but when I was that age, I certainly went weeks without talking to my parent who lives on the other side of the country from me.

That said, there was a rift at one point, at least with the oldest, but the kids are quoted as saying they were close at the time of his death.
 
My parents never went a week without talking to at least one of us, usually more. And they were in assisted living where if something did happen, we would be called.

My parents are long dead, but I was always in frequent contact with them. On the other hand, I may never speak with either of my brothers again. And one of my fears is that I when I do die, I will go like Joyce Carol Vincent.

I find it very sad that Hackman's children saw themselves as "close" with their ninety-five-year old father but apparently hadn't been in touch with him in weeks, if not longer.

ETA: The couple reprtedly died on February 17th, so it was apparently nine or ten days till they were found dead. That still strikes me as a long time for three adult siblings to go without contacting a ninety-five-year-old parent, even one with a spouse about the same age as the siblings.

Home help and personal assistants and business managers cost money to hire and keep. I don't know anything about Hackman's financial situation, but he wouldn't be the first celebrity who had to live on a budget in his later years.

So it wasn't 'several weeks' like I thought they were implying in the first reports I saw (I was thinking no one had seen them since January or something like that), but 9 days is still a long time for no one to notice them not responding to anything. If they ruled out carbon monoxide already, did the poor dog that was in the kennel die of starvation/dehydration? :cry:

Can the pacemaker tell if there was some type of cardiac event like a heart attack or stroke, or does it simply just 'stop recording' once you no longer have a heartbeat? Like maybe he had a heart attack and he just died right then and there. But that still doesn't explain how the wife died. So strange and that they may never really know what happened. I saw one report that they did not have any security cams either inside or outside the house either, so no way to check cam footage for anything.

I do wonder is she died suddenly and then he died slowly because she cared for him?
Anyway I’m sorry it ended this way for them. He did his job so excellently. RIP
 
What I don't understand is the lack of "events" on his pacemaker or IAD, whatever device he had. Or perhaps his cardiac team didn't download any data?
