Ilia Malinin Fan Thread!

He hinted he was working on a quint at the press conference at SA, but has said he won't be attempting it in comp until after the Olys. I don't think he has posted any vids. :)

In the post above, Dikidzhi is the Russian alternate for the Oly spot, behind Gummenik.

Cute photos and videos of Ilia backflipping in his new Anaheim Ducks jersey. Make sure to go all the way through to the last video.

So, Ilia's been making some interesting IG stories this week.

This is from Tuesday -

And this is from today -

Speculation is he may be planning on making his season debut at Cranberry Cup, which would make sense if he's aiming to pace his entire season schedule for peaking in Milano-Cortina. I could see him doing Cranberry, Lombardia, GPdF, SCI and the GPF during the fall.
Wish I could get I there as this is only one and 3/4 hours away on straight highways. But knee surgery has pre-empted this trip. Love Cranberry especially in the pre-Olympic competition. Such a beautiful and intimate setting.

So Ilia updated the schedule on his website but there is no World Championships planned so far. Do you think he might skip that??

News from Ilia's Twitch livestream earlier today -

  • plans to season debut at Lombardia
  • two new programs & he chose the music, working with Shae-Lynn still
  • has tried a QUINTUPLE toe & salchow
  • he choose his GPs
  • didn't choose SkAm because the schedule didn't work when the GP order was changed
and he said he is planing to go to Prague for World Championships :-D That's the news I have been waiting for

They nearly always plan it -- let's see if it actually works out. I don't blame any skater who drops out -- Olympics plus Worlds is a LOT.
Yeah... I'd say it's 50-50 right now whether Ilia makes it to Worlds after the Olympics. Someone else on X noted that Art on Ice is scheduled for immediately after the Olympics & Ari won't like it if Ilia skips that in order to train for Worlds. We won't really know until we see how it goes for Ilia in Milano whether Prague Worlds is likely.

well he said he will try to be there and it isn't on his official Schedule yet so I cannot blame him. I just take my chances and I am happy for the "I will try" ... Prague is a beautiful city and always worth traveling to no matter what

Ilia put out a few teaser clips of one/both? of his programs earlier. I'd be shocked if he's using the How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack, but it could certainly be a good, highly entertaining program to music many Gen Z & younger viewers (as well as their parents) recognize - and if he captures the spirit of the movie, could be a great program. I'm not sure it screams "Olympics" but I have a high degree of trust in him & his team.

God I tried to turn on my sound for way too long.

Unfortunately, people tend to be boring during the Olympics, and Ilia's trolled in the past.

I have no idea, but if it is, would it be treated as a difficult entry or a difficult exit feature for a jump?

I was wondering that, too. It does take good control. He has improved his control of the back flip landings. I wonder if he chose to start doing the back flip with a one-foot landing because he has been planning to use it as an entry into jumps.
