For interested fans in the Newark, DE area - "Journey to Champion: A Tribute to Ron Ludington" at the Patriot Ice Center in Newark, Delaware on Friday, May 6 at 7 pm & Saturday, May 7 at 2 pm featuring Caroline Green & Michael Parsons, Ilia Malinin (Saturday only), Ting Cui, Ava Ziegler & more - tickets: https://app.mysportsort.com/view/index.php?an=334&myss_source=register&entitytype=3&entityid=50017

Ilia has been invited to perform in a prestigious tour in Japan in late July:

ETA this translated excerpt from a 4/23/22 interview from a GSD thread:
Elena Vaytsekhovskaya's interview with Rafael Arutyunyan for rt.com
...
EV: Can Malinin who you've been coaching from time to time during the years become the first to land the 5 revolutions
RA: Yes. The thing is his preparation would be a burden. It's possible to get him prepared to a jump in the way we work now, but a lot will depend on what his parents decide for him. Should Ilya work mainly on the jumps, like he did till now he is, of course, capable landing the 5 revolutions jump. Though even before that he should land a 4A. After that a 5 revolutions might not be that tough.
But I personally would like to see him developing his skating. To make it more noble. Malinin is an interesting guy. In many ways. And he needs professional people around him to show how interesting he is. Should his parents decide to keep working with me we have the specialists who can reach that goal and make Ilya's skating exclusive.

EV: Don't you want to focus on Ilya like you did with Chen?
RA: I could try, just that stopping later will be really hard.

Ilia did an Instagram Live with Jacob Sanchez and Oliver Praetorius. I didn't see it, but reports are that he plans to put that 4A into competition in the coming season, and that his ultimate goal is a 5lz.

Someone's got a summary here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FigureSkat..._things_ilia_confirmed_on_his_instagram_live/

(I hope this isn't board dragging; it's just that Reddit was the best source I found! The comments have some additions and corrections to what's in the original post.)

I didn't see the entire IG live but there was one spot where he sort of intimated that he was going to try the 4A in competition. He also promised to try a 5T in practice if Jacob hits 2000 followers and Oliver hits 3000 followers within the next 24 hours, lol.

It was a somewhat entertaining IG live - they're all such typical teenage boys and they had me chuckling with amusement.

Lots of suggestions to use music from their favorite gaming platforms for future programs, though Ilia said he already has his music for both programs next season already cut. Ilia also said no to Star Wars because Adam did such a great job with it. They all agreed that Hanyu's Seimei program in 2018 is one of the best men's programs ever.

I liked the mention of Ilia's humility in Tom Z's Instastory today.

What TZ wrote: "I saw his 4A with my own eyes and he really is @quadgod with humility."

(btw, USFS Jump On It! Camp continues thru Sat May 14. 🍿)

ETA:
Lorenz Magri congratulated Ilia with words and with a handshake (see second photo):
I am not sure humility is right word. I am not a fan of someone calling themselves a God. It is off putting to me.

Tom Z is interacting in person with Ilia, and Tom Z thought humility was the right word.

Also: I am new here, but this thread is Ilia's fan thread, and it does not seem like an appropriate place for negativity?

That kid has something for sure.

For some reason I instantly thought of Sasha Cohen; runner up Silver Medalist in 2000 but couldn't complete the deal by winning the Junior World Gold! She needed it back then to be able to skate at Senior Worlds! She was still 14 or so! I remember Ilia's mother at 1999 Worlds getting ripped off by Michelle who took Silver behind a deserving Maria Butyrskaya! :40beers::scream::rolleyes:

I am a fan, he is very talented. I was commenting on the name he’s given himself. It is not a humble name, in my opinion of course.

I think Tom Z's point was that Ilia the person has humility.

When Ashley Wagner joined Twitter in 2009 at age 18, she chose the aspirational name of "AshWagner2010" -- a reference to 2010 Olympic team, AFAIK.
After landing 4T and 4S at 2020 Skate America at age 15, Ilia changed his Instagram account to the aspirational name of "quadg0d."
For me, aspirational names are fine. YMMV.

Does he typically do summer comps?
Yes but he's been invited to 2 ice shows in Japan in July - THE ICE in 3 cities (July 23-31) and now Dreams on Ice (July 1-3 near Tokyo) today: http://onice.jp/guest.html

Last year he competed in early July (Skate Milwaukee Junior Cup) because he was on the JGP. We'll see if he competes in August before his first Champs Camp.

Thanks Sylvia. Trying to keep up on all the threads and missed his Japan show dates.

Way to make the off season exciting Ilia! Quadgod indeed!

I think the earliest we will see Ilia compete next is US Classic in 4 months. Most summer comps don't meet the ISU's criteria to qualify as senior B internationals and while he does have his music for next season's programs, he also said in the IG Live he did with Oliver & Jacob that neither has been choreographed yet.

As it is, even the official Olympics IG has picked up the 4A video and shared it. How exciting!

Ilia is totally amazing. I just want him to stay healthy. So I guess there's no chance he'll compete at the Philadelphia competition in early August?

Oliver Praetorius, Jacob Sanchez and Ilia are back on IG Live right now. ;)

ETA: Ilia emphasized that his 4A is not a sign of disrespect toward Hanyu and all 3 of them expresssed admiration of him as a skater and his many jump accomplishments.

Fanyus gonna fanyu, I hope at least 10% shut up about it now - but looks like the other 90% will be singing the tune of "your fave acknowledges Hanyu is god why do you disrespect him then?!".

It's very clear that Ilia has gotten a crash course in the last 4 months on some of the more disturbing parts of even a small level of fame and fandom, and that he has a good support network around him, helping him retain as much privacy as possible.

Also, he was asked what he plans to skate for the Japan shows and he kind of hemmed and hawed before saying it was a secret, so my guess is that we might get an early look at one of next season's programs in July. Or, at least, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping, lol.
