So smart of his agent to post the whole show online! That's a way to get new fans.

Ilia has been assigned to Lombardia Trophy - and will be competing against Yuma there! Hopefully we have a decent stream!
I wonder if the streams will go the way of the Dodo because of music licensing issues. Hopefully not...

In the SP, it was more like a raspberry arabian!

Also, in 10 years, I hope we're not still using "raspberry" to describe this move, lol. Either call it Malinin variation or twist variation.

IIRC, Ilia explained in an interview last season that he named it the raspberry twist b/c Malinin means raspberry in Russian. (At least, I think that's what he said.) So it is named after him. :)

I know why he named it as he did, but it's just a little silly, lol. That said, it does grab attention. My brother was sitting next to me while the skating was on, thumbing through his phone and not paying attention, and when the commentators said "raspberry twist," he stopped and said, "Did they just say raspberry?"

Well, it caught your brother's attention, which it probably wouldn't have if the commentators called it the "Malinin twist" - it made him stop and got him engaged in some way.

Well, Ilia has the seal of approval from the artist himself who wrote & recorded his FS music!

His jumping ability is just incredible, and it looks so natural too. I'm a little astounded that he might be doing the back-counter 4A as the SECOND jumping pass this year.

I really love the free skate for him this year. I had my reservations about the music at first, but I think it's cut very well and I think it highlights Ilia's showmanship and flair. Also, no one has ever heard this music in skating before, which I think works to his benefit. When I think of Ilia, I think, this is a new generation of skating, a new type of skater, someone with new moves and new jumps, and so of course, he brings new music and genres. The last minute could be incredible at Boston. He could do more with the transitions between jumps in the first half and the step sequence needs more, but these are things to work on for the rest of the year. Overall, I like the composition more than Succession.

I like his short program too, but to me, it has a little bit less impact in the way that Malaguena did or his free skate this year does. However, he skated it very well. Impressed that he was able to hit the jump layout, and he still has room for improvement with the details too.

Also the FS costume is gorgeous and theatrical, I love it, lol.
