Is Jackie Wong working full time for Ice Network now? I love his Twitter and I think he's a fantastic addition to the team, but I prefer Nick McCarvel as an interviewer. He asks tougher, more interesting questions. I suppose he's had more practice as an actual journalist/reporter though.

Jackie is filling in for Nick for a few weeks.

My I was LOL'ing at Kurt's analysis of things. Let's just say he could have been more professional around some issues (like a 3-year-old injury of Tessa that he knows nothing about). And then there's the I'll Be So Busy at Nationals faux-handwringing as well.

I enjoyed this. Raf is so interesting. And Nathan is an intelligent and well spoken young man. Hard to believe he is a mere 17 years old.

I wonder if the travel between CA and MI will get old.

Well Nathan is young too, so he's probably not as affected by constant travel since the body bounces back more easily in youth.

So has Jackie Wong become the permanent host of Ice Talk? I realize that Nick McCarvel has been in Australia covering Australian Open Tennis.

Chen' calmness and consistency reminds me of Kwan. I think he'll be fine at 4CCs and Worlds.

Great comparison. Nathan does have a bit of Michelle's quiet confidence and calmness about him and he doesn't seem to get rattled easily. He makes mistakes but it's more about him pushing himself then having a meltdown.

No he's just covering for these few weeks. Nick is supposed to come back.

IMO Jackie Wong was doing a fine job in the MC role. McCarvel seems to perseverate over certain issues (Marissa/Mervin citizenship issue = dead horse beaten ... again ... and again) and have a much shallower basis for his views (e.g., when asked to predict competition outcomes ... trying to think if he has anything resembling an unembarrassing track record in Icenetwork polls)

I enjoy Jackie's interviews a lot more. Nick seems obsessed with wanting to break his own record of trying to ask the same question in multiple different ways.:wall:

.:wall:

 You do have a point.

I enjoy Jackie quite a bit, but I also think Nick and Jackie both bring fairly good skills to the broadcast. :)

Probably Nick is trying to be diplomatic while also trying to ask at least some tough or pertinent questions, rather than hosting an interview full of softballs.

ETA:
Listening to the latest broadcast with Jackie hosting, I do agree one of the small noticeable differences is Jackie's seemingly greater ease in moving things along while covering a lot and not overly belaboring a point. Otherwise, their hosting skills are fairly even. What with his Rocker Skating blog and his years of fs fandom, perhaps Jackie has a bit of greater knowledge of skaters and of figure skating generally. In addition to figure skating, Nick also covers a lot of tennis.

Ep. 26: Jason Brown/Lynn Rutherford

In the last of four episodes previewing the 2017 World Figure Skating Championships, icenetwork contributor Lynn Rutherford helps host Jackie Wong break down the ladies and dance competitions in Helsinki. Then, U.S. bronze medalist Jason Brown joins the podcast to talk about his programs this season and how he's fought through injury to put out performances he can be proud of.

Ep. 27: Charlie White/Misha Ge

Ice dancer and commentator Charlie White and Ice Talk host Jackie Wong dissect all the competition from the 2017 World Figure Skating Championships and choose their favorite moments from the week that was. Then, one of the most popular skaters in the sport today, Misha Ge, stops by to discuss his future plans and what it's like being coached by his parents.

I've only listened to the last episode so far, but I enjoyed Charlie's Worlds wrap-up quite a bit, and Misha is a doll. I hope they keep these interviews going through the off-season.

Jackie does such a credible job as host. He understands how to cover the key topics without getting bogged down in biases or obsessing about how to make the podcast mostly about their own misconstrued sense of self-importance.

SO many more skaters they could be tapping into, former champion wise. Hope they stay on top of the interviews. Fun to hear from Meryl sans Charlie. They mention it is 'take turns' since I guess Charlie had a solo interview during Worlds.
